Chapter 100 The Suzerain Country

Chapter 100 The Suzerain Country

Darcy always seemed to annoy Jane Foster, ever since they met. Darcy would ask silly questions and bother her with trivial matters, yet she remained Jane's good friend. Although Darcy was a social science student and knew nothing about astrophysics, she still followed Jane Foster to this small town. They came to this sparsely populated town on a meager budget, renting a room in the abandoned Smith's Motor Shop—and this wasn't just for academic credits.

Okay, while academic credits are the main factor, there are also three free meals and reimbursed nail polish.

Jane cherished this friendship, but that didn't stop her from being angry with Darcy, nor did it stop Darcy from making her angry. Darcy felt she and Jane were even, and ever since Jane stopped her from stealing vicodin from the hospital pharmacy, she had been thinking about getting back at her mentor. Jane Foster, enraged, told Darcy to shut up, but she still felt parched; at that moment, she no longer seemed like a scientist, but more like an ordinary person.

She looked more like him, at least when she awkwardly tore off the "Dr. Donald Black" label from the T-shirt.

After changing his clothes, Saul began to wander around the laboratory, Jane Foster's gaze following him the whole time. Saul examined the various drawings and data pasted on the drafting boards and walls, as well as a set of photos that Darcy had just posted; his figure appeared in the storm that had been captured in the photograph.

"What were you doing in there?" Jane walked over and asked, pointing to the picture. Her scientific curiosity made her temporarily forget her other thoughts, focusing solely on finding the answer.

"What else could you do on the Rainbow Bridge?" Thor shrugged, dismissively. The Rainbow Bridge? Jane jotted the word down in her notebook. She still had many questions, such as why he was there, and who he was. Although these questions sounded unbelievable and somewhat contrary to the spirit of science, she felt that this man could answer them.

Oh! Let a homeless man answer astrophysics questions? Although he had a handsome face, a muscular build, and didn't smell of drunken sweat or drug addict excrement, he was still a homeless man. Jane thought she might really be going crazy to even have such an idea.

"My mortal body is weakening," Thor said. He was referring to his hunger; although no one else could understand him, Thor's rumbling stomach clearly conveyed his meaning. Suddenly, Thor whirled around to look behind him, and he had a very familiar feeling, as if Loki was behind him.

"What's wrong?" Jane looked behind Thor, but saw nothing.

"No," Thor turned back suspiciously, "it's nothing."

Just as Jane took Thor to the only restaurant in town for a meal, Salomon emerged from the swirling sparks. He had been hiding in the Infernal Realm, trying to glean the location of Thor's old hospital room from their conversation, but not only did he fail, he was almost discovered by Thor's intuition. This was because Thor's divine power had only been sealed, his basic physical attributes reduced, but his basic mental attributes remained intact. His intelligence, charisma, and perception remained at their original levels. Furthermore, after his divine power was sealed, these senses were no longer ignored by Thor and began to function again. And because Thor was incredibly familiar with magic, sensing its presence was perfectly normal for him.

Salomon decided to go to the hospital himself to retrieve Thor's blood sample. This was a rather troublesome matter. Although the town had a sparse population and few patients, he had no idea where Thor's previous hospital room was, nor what tests the doctors had performed on him or how many vials of blood had been drawn. This was crucial because he didn't want Thor's blood sample to fall into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s hands, even if Hydra wasn't part of S.H.I.E.L.D.; those guys were adept at causing trouble.

"A hammer," Nick Fury said on the phone. "The meteorite we detected was just a hammer?"

"Yes, sir," Coulson said. "It's incredible, but it's true. And nobody can lift that hammer. One bystander tried to tow it with a vehicle, but failed. We also detected a large amount of electromagnetic waves emanating from the hammer, which, according to preliminary estimates, could potentially affect commercial airliners. Coincidentally, there's an astrophysicist in a nearby town who should have recorded what happened that night."

"Just follow the general guidelines." Nick Fury paused for a moment, then continued, "I'll give you further instructions later."

"Yes, sir." After Coulson hung up the phone, Nick Fury nestled on the sofa and pondered for a moment. Salomon had explained to him that the incident was related to aliens and magic, but Salomon had revealed very little information. Nick Fury suddenly remembered Salomon's earlier mention of the alien prince's coronation ceremony; his intuition told him that the two were definitely connected. An agent doesn't need evidence; he only needs intuition, and this intuition is extremely important in an agent's career.

Nick Fury dialed Salomon's number, and the first thing he asked the arcane mage was when the call connected. Salomon readily admitted it, though he didn't reveal much, but Nick Fury still connected the two things.

"This is a bloody struggle for the throne." Salomon held his phone in one hand and was flipping through hospital records with the other. "But this is not something you can interfere with."

"What do you know?" Nick Fury asked seriously. "Didn't you say Earth is the Sorcerer Supreme's realm? Why are you involved in this? You have to tell me the connection. I need to know if this has any impact on Earth."

"Earth is just one of the Sorcerer Supreme's territories. In fact, the entire solar system is the Sorcerer Supreme's territory, because the entire solar system can be considered a star system, it's just that the other planets are too barren." Salomon stole an access card from a doctor's pocket. The Sorcerer's Hand always comes in handy when stealing. "But there is more than one star system in the universe. We live in nine star systems connected by the World Tree. Midgard is one of Asgard's vassal states."

Nick Fury remained silent. Salomon didn't know if he was feeling insecure about Earth's subservient status or if he was researching, but for a long time, Salomon didn't hear any sound from the other end of the phone. Meanwhile, he had already entered the hospital's examination room, pinching his nose and deftly avoiding the urine test samples from the town's addicts.

"Midgard, Asgard, do you mean that those gods really exist?" Nick Fury finally spoke, but his voice was extremely serious.

"If magic exists, why can't gods exist? I even invited you to see the sights of Hell last time, but you saw it as a threat," Salomon said. "Those pantheons you're talking about do exist, they're just not on Earth anymore. But I can't explain the specific reasons or the current state of those pantheons to you, because there are things I know, things I don't, things I know that you can't know, and things I don't know that you can't know either."

"So what can you tell me? Stop beating around the bush, Salomon. You know these situations are dangerous. I need to know what those gods' attitudes are towards humanity. And Asgard, why did Thor's hammer fall to Earth?" Nick Fury said. "I spent a few minutes reading Norse mythology, but those stories are always inaccurate. I think it's very likely that the primitive tribes mistook those aliens for gods; they were just technologically advanced aliens."

"Think what you will. All I can say is that magic truly exists. Although Asgard may not be considered gods, their technology and magic are among the best in the universe, and their commoners have a lifespan of five thousand years, while the Allfather has lived for hundreds of thousands of years." Salomon tore open disposable gloves and put them on, checking the numbers on the blood samples one by one. "I can also tell you why that hammer fell to Earth. I was there. Along with that hammer, Thor also descended to Earth. This hammer god wouldn't stray too far from his hammer."

"Where is he? And why is he on Earth?"

"He did something wrong, recklessly instigating a war between Asgard and Jotunheim, and for that he was banished from Asgard by the Allfather," Salomon said. "The current Thor has had his divine powers sealed by the Allfather, and his body has been weakened to that of a mortal. In other words, now any mortal with a knife can kill a god."

Salomon noticed Nick Fury's breathing become heavier, and he knew what the guy was thinking. Whether Asgard was a god or aliens, Thor was a highly valuable research subject. But Nick Fury wasn't a hot-headed politician; he was an agent. He quickly calmed down, recalling Salomon's earlier remarks about Asgard's place in the universe and the malice hidden in Salomon's words.

"Exile?" he asked. "So, Thor is no longer the heir to the throne? Who is the heir to Asgard now? Tyr? Or Baldr? And how long is this exile? What is Odin's attitude towards Thor? Can we...?"

"This is just a lesson in family education," Salomon said. "There is only one heir to the throne of Asgard, Thor. There is no other possibility, because Odin believes Thor is, and that is who he is. No one can change that."

"You mean, this is a little adventure Odin has arranged for Thor?" Nick Fury asked. "But what will that mean for Earth?"

"Thor's friendship," the arcane mage said, "if he survives."

"What if he dies?"

"If he died at the hands of the Asgardians, then even the Allfather would have nothing to say," Salomon said. "But if he died at the hands of Earthlings... I think even the Sorcerer Supreme wouldn't stop the Allfather's revenge."

"Tell me where Thor is!" Nick Fury shouted. "And tell me, what is Asgard's military strength?"

"They're even stronger than the Kree Empire. Asgard has the Rainbow Bridge, and they have the fastest army deployment speed in the universe," Salomon said. "Are you still trying to play dumb, Nick Fury? I'm sure you know how powerful the Kree Empire is. That bull Carol Danvers must have told you."
