Chapter 99 Private Purposes
Chapter 99 Private Purposes
Salomon called Thor "the silly prince" or "the stupid prince," but in fact Thor was not stupid. He was just too lazy to use his brain. After all, until he was exiled, all the problems he encountered could be solved with his hammer. If one hammer didn't work, he would use two. He could always solve the problem.
Salomon had previously worried that Jane Foster wouldn't be interested in the muscular Thor, so he prepared a love potion, intending to slip the rose-colored liquid with heart-shaped bubbles into their food. However, after witnessing Thor's descent from the sky, his being hit by a car, and his subsequent encounter with Jane Foster in the mirror dimension, Salomon was relieved. Jane Foster had almost touched Thor's pectoral muscles—what was there to worry about? In fact, even Jane Foster's cute, busty intern had fallen for it, because the allure of a muscular man is undeniable. As for whether Thor would take the bait, Salomon figured that this often-blurred-minded guy would bite the hook even if he saw it.
In short, this matter no longer concerns him much. However, according to the contract he signed with Nick Fury, in the event of a large-scale disaster on the magical side, and if Salomon is aware of it, he must notify Nick Fury in advance to protect the lives of innocent people. Since this contract was witnessed by Vishanti, its terms are absolutely fair, and neither Salomon nor Nick Fury can violate it—as for finding loopholes in the contract and misinterpreting its terms, that would be lawful evil, a tactic both Salomon and Nick Fury are very familiar with, one acting on instinct, the other through years of accumulated experience; neither is necessarily more innocent than the other.
The Sorcerer Supreme let Salomon off the hook when he tried to slack off. After receiving permission to take a break, the sorcerer immediately went into Bayonetta’s apartment. However, Joan of Arc, who had just dealt with a bratty kid and his parents, was clearly not very polite to Salomon.
"I did all your laundry," Joan of Arc said. "I'm not your servant, mystic!"
"I wash the dishes too!" Salomon's eyes widened. "I cook and mop the floor too!"
"But back when you were in school, Bayonetta and I only saw you twice a day! At noon and in the evening. Shouldn't I thank you for cooking for us?" Joan said loudly, loosening her black tie. Today she was wearing a deep red suit, but she wasn't wearing anything on top except the blazer, leaving half of her full breasts exposed. The black tie was tucked into the blazer, covering part of her beautiful skin. This elegant outfit, combined with her tall figure, was also the source of her trouble today. Some teachers thought her attire was inappropriate, but Joan, completely unconcerned with office politics, ignored their advice and continued to do as she pleased.
"Then you can cook!" Salomon said. "Where did Bayonetta go?"
"She went to buy groceries," Joan said irritably. "I've rarely seen her like that when she knows you're having dinner here tonight! I'm warning you, you have to cheer her up, even though she certainly won't admit that she's only happy because she's seeing you."
"I consider her family, and maybe that's how it will be in the future," Salomon said. "But right now, I'm only fifteen."
"Fifteen-year-olds can have children." Salomon rolled his eyes upon hearing Joan of Arc's words. He had almost forgotten that Joan of Arc had lived for over five hundred years, and at that time, the phenomenon of teenagers getting married and having children was countless all over the world.
"In this country, the age of adulthood is twenty-one," Salomon said. "And I'm a law-abiding citizen."
"Ha!" Joan of Arc sneered. "I don't care about these things. Now, hand over the Cheshire Cat to me, and you go wash the dishes left over from the other day."
"You might not believe it, but I've washed all the dishes clean." Salomon had already ordered his invisible servants to clean the entire house before Joan of Arc returned. From the time he went to Asgard until he returned to Earth, several days had passed, and the sink was piled high with dirty dishes, which he found utterly unbearable.
"Very good." Joan of Arc took off her suit jacket and threw it on the sofa, seemingly unconcerned that she was naked. "And wash your clothes while you're at it."
"Next time we'll make a chore schedule." Salomon picked up his clothes and headed out. "Next time you'll wash the dishes, and I'll do the laundry. Now, hurry up and put on your pajamas; I don't want Bayonetta to misunderstand anything."
"Good evening, Joan. Good evening, little one." Bayonetta turned the lock and came in, carrying a basket of vegetables and raw meat. Her gray eyes behind her glasses narrowed. "Oh? Did I miss something?"
----------------
The clothing styles of Americans and British people are vastly different. This difference is so great that even a white American can be easily distinguished on the streets of London, since in Britain, very few people would wear a red plaid shirt with a brown baseball cap. In contrast, this free-spirited style of dress is commonplace in the United States. Salomon believes this is due to American culture; he feels Americans seem to be able to party anywhere, especially in rural towns in New Mexico.
This is a typical town built around mineral resources, perhaps coal, perhaps gold, but in any case, once the companies left, the town inevitably declined. The economic recession meant that the only bar in town opened twenty years ago; there were no strip clubs, no jobs, and young people could only become petty thugs, aimlessly wandering the streets and shops.
Perhaps due to a lack of entertainment, when the people here discovered a hammer that they couldn't lift no matter what they tried, they quickly set up a sound system and a barbecue grill. Someone even brought a truck and moved several cases of chilled beer from the bar. They lined up, one after another, trying to pull out the hammer. Even if they failed, it didn't matter; they could just drink another beer and try again.
