Chapter 625 Tusam's Liberation
Chapter 625 Tusam's Liberation
The earliest train scheduled to pass through Kevin Town Train Station today is the one that departs from Rune at 8:30 AM bound for Garotenia. This means that Tusam will definitely be at the train station within an hour.
The location of the Deco restaurant where Connor was currently situated offered the best vantage point for observing Kevin Train Station and its surroundings. Coupled with Connor's formidable mental strength, Connor was confident that if Tusam dared to show himself, he would be unable to escape his clutches.
Meanwhile, the demonized knight Tusam, whom Connor had been longing for, was disguised as an ordinary-looking middle-aged businessman carrying a suitcase, wearing a blue suit, a black top hat, and sitting in the carriage of a horse-drawn carriage traveling on the ring road of Kevin Town.
The elderly coachman, who was riding in the taxi, glanced at Tusam, whose face was gloomy, out of the corner of his eye. The middle-aged man sitting in his carriage had a look of fear in his cloudy old eyes. The ordinary-looking man behind him had not done anything outrageous since he got in the carriage, but for some reason, he felt a chill run down his spine whenever he saw him.
The man tossed him two five-shilling notes as soon as he got on the carriage, without mentioning any destination, only asking him to drive him around the town of Kevin. He'd been pulling a carriage in Kevin for thirty or forty years, and this was the first time he'd encountered someone who wouldn't take him anywhere but just make him drive in circles. Although somewhat intimidated by the man, he'd already used up the ten pence he'd paid, and if he kept going, he'd be losing money. Thinking this, the old driver hesitated for a moment, gritted his teeth, and cautiously asked:
"Sir, we've already circled the town twice. Shall we continue?"
Hearing the coachman's question, Tussam, already in a bad mood due to not finding Matthews and Charles, turned even more sinister. He coldly glanced at the coachman, took out a one-shilling note from his pocket, threw it at him, and said icily, "Stop talking nonsense! You can only stop when I tell you to!"
Although Tusam's attitude was quite unpleasant, for the sake of money, the old coachman chose to accept it, put away the one-shilling note, and silently continued driving the carriage, continuing to circle around the town of Kevin as Tusam had requested.
Sitting in the carriage, Tusam continued searching for his two henchmen, Matthews and Charles. But as time ticked by, Tusam's patience dwindled. A few more minutes passed, and seeing his last hope about to vanish, Tusam finally lost his composure. He pulled out a gold pocket watch from his pocket, looked at the time—8:17—closed his eyes, clenched his fists, and his pale face was filled with despair.
After a dozen seconds of grief and despair at the shattering of his last hope, Tusam seemed to finally make a decision and said to the coachman, "Turn right into that alley ahead, I want to get off!"
Hearing that the terrifying man behind him was finally getting off the cart, the old driver secretly breathed a sigh of relief and, without suspicion, obediently followed Tusam's orders and turned into the very secluded and deserted alley ahead.
A minute later, Tusam, his top hat pulled low to conceal his face, emerged from the alleyway carrying a suitcase. The carriage that had carried him, and its old driver, were nowhere to be seen…
As he approached the train station, Tusam took out his pocket watch and glanced at the time. His worried face finally relaxed a little. He then quietly entered the train station. However, the limitations of the demonized knight's mental power prevented him from noticing that as he appeared in the crowd near the train station, a pair of cold eyes in the tavern opposite the station had already set their sights on him.
Sitting quietly in the bustling waiting room, Tusam, his expression hidden behind his top hat, still showed some resentment, but it was much more subdued than before, as if he had accepted his current fate.
Do you regret it?
Tusam asked himself this question in his mind, and as he pondered it, he fell into deep thought. Although he didn't know why his two subordinates, Matthews and Charles, hadn't come to Kevin Town to meet him as he had ordered, their absence meant that his already slim chance of resolving the problem of his demonized body had been completely shattered. This meant that with only a dozen or so anti-magic potions left, he wouldn't have more than a year to regain his senses and reason!
If he hadn't been seduced by Martina and developed greed for the purifying potion, wanting to rebel against the Secret Society, he would probably still be risking his life for them. While that would be very dangerous, based on past experience, he should have lived another ten or eight years without a problem…
Faced with the stark contrast between living ten years and living one year, it seems on the surface that there is no good choice; anyone with a sound mind would choose the former. However, Tusam was surprised to find that he did not feel much regret. Instead, he even felt a wonderful sense of letting go and liberation!
This wonderful feeling was something Tusam had never experienced before, but it seemed quite nice, and Tusam thoroughly enjoyed it.
He carefully sensed this feeling, and after a while, he realized why he felt this way. Even if he only lived for a year, during that year, Tusam wouldn't have to be someone's tool, watch other people's faces, or worry about being harmed like he did when he was in the secret society. In this last year, he could decide how to live for himself. He was free, and he could do whatever he wanted without worrying about the consequences!
And these are things that he could never achieve, not even if he lived for ten more years, or even a hundred more years, as long as he was still in the Secret Society and under Southgate's command!
With this in mind, Tusam's state of mind gradually became peaceful. He let go of his resentment and anger and stopped thinking about the secret society and other things. He even had a faint expectation for his new life ahead!
Seemingly thinking of something, Tusam looked at the wall hanging in the waiting room with some doubt. There was a large wall clock hanging there. He entered the waiting room at 8:25. He had been thinking about this for so long. Wasn't it 8:30 yet?
