Chapter 467 Unexpected Events
Chapter 467 Unexpected Events (2)
The H gang arrived quickly and left just as fast. After knocking down the people and smashing their belongings, they showed no hesitation, turning around and disappearing into the nearby streets and alleys. What happened next was even more astonishing: less than a few minutes after the H gang left, just as passersby, seeing that the gang had already gone far away and preparing to help the injured moving workers…
More than ten carriages from the Luen Metropolitan Police Department sped down the street, and dozens of uniformed police officers brought the scene under control.
"Why did the police arrive so quickly today?" an elderly gentleman, who was enjoying a drink alone in the Montero restaurant, muttered to himself with some confusion.
"Yeah, how come these police officers arrived so quickly today? Last time, during the H gang's bloody fight on Helen Road, the police station was only three blocks away, but it took them a full half hour to get there..."
"Half an hour? Last time I was extorted by the H gang, it took them three hours to arrive after I called the police!"
The old man's words instantly ignited the atmosphere in the restaurant, and everyone chimed in with complaints about the bureaucracy and slow response of the Rune Metropolitan Police Department.
Suddenly, Connor had a thought. He frowned slightly and glanced at the street outside the window. Then, taking advantage of the fact that the customers in the restaurant were engrossed in their discussion and no one was paying attention to him, he quickly turned to Varga behind him and said, "A team of church arbitrators is approaching this way. You go to the safe house and wait for me. If we both go together, we'll be too conspicuous and easily spotted!"
Varga knew that Connor, being a psychic wizard, possessed far greater mental power than she did, enabling him to detect things from a greater distance and faster. Without any questions, she nodded to Connor, then called the waiter for the bill, pulled out a banknote, threw it on the table, put on her top hat, and hurriedly left the restaurant.
Connor downed his glass of red wine in one gulp, called the waiter, paid for his meal, and then leisurely straightened his coat before leaving the Montero restaurant, heading in the opposite direction from Varga's departure. Connor's audacity, despite knowing that arbitrators were approaching, stemmed entirely from his observation that their attention seemed entirely focused on James Trading Company.
Connor was certain that the attack by the H gang was a premeditated trap, but the target wasn't him, Connor Ferguson, but rather "James Trading Company."
Based on Connor's understanding of the Rune Metropolitan Police Department, their response time couldn't possibly be this fast. The nearest police station to the Felix Building is five blocks away, and normally it would take fifteen minutes just to get there. But from the time the H gang appeared and left until the police wagon arrived, the total time was less than ten minutes! Moreover, this is the West District, not the East District, where there wouldn't be police patrolling regularly. So it's obvious that this is a conspiracy against "James Trading Company".
"Emergency situation, street blockade! All of you, show me your identification!"
Just as Connor walked two streets away from the scene of the incident, thinking he was safe, two squads of Rune military police carrying rifles menacingly blocked the street. A military police officer with the rank of Second Lieutenant J stood at the street entrance and shouted arrogantly:
Connor ignored the military police who could only scare ordinary people, and instead looked past them to their backs. Behind the military police were seven men in plainclothes, carefully examining the pedestrians blocked in the street.
As he felt the spiritual energy sweeping over him, Connor's heart sank. He never expected that a team of church arbitrators would appear here. Although he was very shocked, Connor's face remained expressionless.
Under the watchful eyes of the arbitrators, Connor silently joined the queue for document checks. That was all he could do. If there were only one or two arbitrators present, Connor was confident that he could leave silently with his strength. However, there were seven arbitrators here. Although their cultivation levels were all lower than Connor's, their sheer numbers made it impossible for him to leave without alerting them.
While the seven people were temporarily focused on someone else, Connor quickly felt his pockets and discreetly put his identification back into his spatial ring. He had disguised himself before coming, and in his current state, he obviously couldn't use Connor Ferguson's identification. According to convention, even without identification to prove his identity, he could usually get away with bribing someone with some money.
After waiting in line for more than ten minutes, it was finally Connor's turn to have his identification checked. A middle-aged man with a receding hairline and the rank of Sergeant J glanced at Connor, then held out his hand and said expressionlessly, "Where's your identification?"
"I'm out and about and I forgot my ID. Sir, I hope you'll be lenient and do me a favor!" Connor said softly, pulling a one-shilling note from his pocket and slipping it into the sergeant's hand.
Sergeant J felt the tactile sensation of the banknotes in his hand, gave Connor a deep look, said nothing, and simply waved his hand, indicating that Connor could leave. However, at that moment, a church arbitrator in a blue robe standing behind the group of military police suddenly walked towards Connor, pointed at him, and said, "You come here!"
Faced with such an unexpected situation, Connor immediately narrowed his eyes. If he was not mistaken, the blue-robed arbitrator who had asked him to come over seemed to be the one with the highest cultivation among the seven arbitrators, possessing the peak level of intermediate wizard apprentice. Did he see through his disguise by asking him to come over?
While Connor stood there, stunned in thought, the middle-aged, Mediterranean-looking sergeant who had just received Connor's money thought Connor was terrified. Whether he was afraid Connor would implicate him, or felt a sense of obligation having accepted Connor's money and knowing he had to do his bidding, he gritted his teeth, stepped forward, bowed to the blue-robed arbitrator, and said, "Sir, I have examined this person; there are no problems!"
The blue-robed arbitrator glanced at the Mediterranean sergeant who was speaking up for Connor, then snorted and unleashed a burst of spiritual energy. The ordinary Mediterranean sergeant was struck as if by a heavy blow, and bright red blood oozed from his ears and nose.
