Chapter 468 Connor, the Spy

"Enough talk! Did I ask you?" The blue-robed arbitrator said calmly, looking at the balding sergeant's miserable face, before turning his gaze back to Connor and saying coldly, "I told you to come here!"

A faint smile appeared on his lips. Following the blue-robed arbitrator's instructions, Connor walked towards him. Since someone wanted to die, he, Connor, couldn't very well stop them, could he? In the instant the blue-robed arbitrator had taught the Mediterranean Sergeant a lesson, Connor had already discerned the arbitrator's true nature. This reckless fellow was actually a psychic wizard, just like him. Although somewhat surprised, this was only the second psychic wizard Connor had encountered in all his time in the wizarding world, after meeting hundreds of wizards, besides his mentor Reyes.

Just as Connor, with a smile on his face, approached within ten steps of the blue-robed arbitrator under his questioning gaze, a voice that Connor knew all too well came from the café on the side of the street a split second before Connor could make a move: "Mariano, come here, I have something to tell you."

Upon hearing the voice, Connor turned to look in the direction it came from. A graceful figure wearing a purple veil appeared in Connor's line of sight in the café. Seeing Margaret's appearance, Connor felt a great sense of relief. He knew that he, Connor Ferguson, had basically passed this test today. Otherwise, he had just planned to take down this reckless blue-robed arbitrator and then quickly run away. Although Connor could easily get rid of the arbitrators that way, he would have to bear the risk of being hunted down.

The blue-robed arbitrator, whom Margaret called Mariano, hesitated for a moment after hearing Margaret address him, then gave Connor a deep look before saying in a sinister tone with a hint of threat, "You stay here and don't leave!" After saying that, he turned and walked towards the café on the street where Margaret was.

Upon hearing the blue-robed arbitrator's threat, a fleeting glint of murderous intent flashed in Connor's eyes. He then glanced out of the corner of his eye toward the café, where Margaret seemed to be saying something to Mariano, who was frowning and glancing at him from time to time.

Three minutes later, Mariano nodded to Margaret, bowed, and walked out of the coffee shop. When he returned to Connor, his hostility towards Connor had lessened considerably, which made Connor curious about what Margaret had said to him.

"The master wants to see you; she has something to say to you!" Mariano gave Connor another deep look, then said calmly:

Connor nodded slightly in greeting and then walked towards the café where Margaret was. Upon entering, Connor instinctively headed for the chair opposite Margaret, but as soon as he moved, he heard Margaret's voice transmission: "Stand beside me, don't sit down. I just told that guy you're a church spy..."

Upon hearing that he had been "spyed" on, Connor awkwardly touched his nose, then glanced at Mariano, the blue-robed arbitrator, who was subtly observing them from the street. He suddenly realized why the bastard's hostility had lessened so much earlier—he had heard that Connor was a spy for the church. The Rune region and even the entire west coast of the Kaman Empire were traditionally within the Storm Church's sphere of influence, and were teeming with the church's informants and spies. Margaret's excuse was quite reasonable.

Under Mariano's watchful eye, Connor, posing as a secret agent, stood respectfully beside Margaret and whispered to her, "Weren't you supposed to be looking for Skull and Bones assassins? What are you doing here?"

"Shouldn't I be asking you that? What are you doing here?" Margaret, her face hidden behind a veil, glanced at Connor beside her and said with a half-smile:

"Felix Building is a trap, a very deep trap," Connor said meaningfully to Margaret.

"I just received orders from Eder to temporarily halt the manhunt for the Skull and Bones assassins and, together with the military police from Rune, cordon off the streets and check suspicious individuals!" Margaret sighed softly and said to Connor in a low voice.

"That man's name is Mariano?" Noticing the blue-robed arbitrator was still secretly observing them, Connor looked up, glanced at him, and asked Margaret.

"That's right! He's the captain of this Arbitrator squad, one of Edel's men. Normally, the captain of the Arbitrator squad should be a senior wizard apprentice, but Edel, who was then the leader of the Rune Arbitrators, defied all opposition and promoted Mariano, who was still a mid-level wizard apprentice, to the position of captain. So this guy has always been grateful to Edel and loyal to him!" Hearing Connor's question, for some reason, Margaret also gave a brief explanation of Mariano's background when answering.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" Noticing Margaret's unusual behavior, Connor looked at her and asked:

"Mariano is Eder's man. Although I'm currently leading him, he won't completely trust what I say. He'll definitely report your situation to Eder when he gets back!" Without directly answering Connor's question, Margaret looked Connor in the eye and said very solemnly, word by word:

"What do you mean? Do you need me to do something to him?" Hearing the implication in Margaret's words, Connor sensed something unusual and narrowed his eyes, tentatively asking:

"Alright, Connor, you don't need to test me. I admit that Mariano is someone Eder placed by my side to monitor me. I only recently discovered this. Connor, I need you to help me get rid of Mariano.
