Looking at Joseph, who was beyond dead, a hint of surprise seemed to appear in old Victor's eyes. He seemed somewhat astonished that Connor had been so decisive, killing Joseph without any hesitation.
Nodding, old Victor continued, "Young Master Connor, there are a few more people who need to be dealt with. Please come with me."
Connor frowned slightly. Judging from what old Victor said, it seemed that besides Joseph, other informants of the Storm Church had also been captured.
Following old Victor into the attic of the house, Connor saw the "person" he needed to deal with.
Pointing to the unconscious woman and the two children, a boy and a girl, in front of him, Connor frowned and carefully chose his words before saying, "Are they also informants for the Church of Storms?"
Seemingly sensing Connor's hesitation, old Victor's aged face revealed a wicked smile. He said softly, "Young Master Connor, this woman is Joseph's wife, and the two children are also Joseph's children. Emperor Raul once said a famous line, 'Wildfire cannot burn them all; the spring breeze brings them back to life.' How apt! You just killed this woman's husband and the father of two children. Young Master Connor, aren't you afraid they will seek revenge on you in the future?"
"Joseph's children and wife?" Connor hesitated for a moment before slowly saying, "As far as I know, Joseph doesn't have a wife or children. Victor, could you be mistaken?"
"No, no, no! Young Master Connor, you don't understand Mr. Joseph. As an informant for the Church of Storms, he's a cowardly and cautious rat. He knows he won't have a good end, so five years ago, when his wife was just pregnant with his first child, he got a fake divorce. He tries to avoid seeing his wife and child as much as possible, but whenever the night is quiet, he comes to this house to enjoy his family time..." Old Victor's voice was full of sarcasm and disdain.
Listening to old Victor's words, Connor's heart sank. He understood! Today's events weren't as simple as Victor helping him solve a problem; this was a "pledge of allegiance!" Old Victor—no!—his mentor, Professor Reyes, wanted to stain his hands with blood, ensuring there was no turning back on his path as a dark wizard!
Joseph reported him to the Storm Church, and he could kill him without any guilt. Killing his wife was just a matter of a single shot if he were ruthless. But looking at his two children who were unconscious, with their innocent faces, Connor suddenly realized how heavy the gun in his hand was.
"Young Master Connor, hurry up! It's getting late, and Old Victor still needs to clean up the scene!" Old Victor urged calmly. It seemed that in his eyes, Connor's task wasn't dealing with three lives, but rather as easily as buying three pieces of clothing.
Glancing at old Victor, Connor recalled what his mentor had told him at Reyes's villa before he came: "Old Victor is a wizard just like you and me, and he has reached the level of advanced apprentice!" At first, Connor did not understand the meaning of this sentence, but now that he thought about it, could it be that Reyes had foreseen the current situation and was warning him not to act rashly?
Exhaling a breath of stale air, Connor, his face grim, raised the gun in his hand. He was at the mercy of others; if he refused old Victor, who knew what would happen next…
"Tap! Tap! Tap!"
Just as Connor pointed his gun at Joseph's wife, preparing to pull the trigger, an extremely eerie sound suddenly rang out in the room, growing louder and louder, gripping everyone's nerves.
As soon as the sound rang out, Connor felt an excruciating headache, as if a long sword was churning inside his head, instantly putting his mind on extreme tension.
"snort!"
Caught off guard, Connor let out a painful groan, and the hand holding the gun involuntarily dropped to his side.
"Mental storm?" Old Victor uttered a single word, his face dark.
"Arbitrators of the Church of Storms! Evil dark wizards, surrender and accept arbitration!" A deep male voice suddenly echoed in the room.
"Heh heh, one advanced apprentice and two intermediate apprentices think you can make me accept arbitration? Your generation of Storm Church arbitrators are really arrogant, aren't they?" Old Victor sneered. At the same time, he casually waved his hand, and three wind blades appeared in the void, shooting towards the heads of Joseph's wife and children who were in a coma. Without any luck, the heads of the mother and children were instantly blown off.
"Young Master Connor, Old Victor will handle these three Storm Church Arbitrators. You can leave while we're fighting. Remember not to reveal your identity, or it will be very troublesome!" Just as Connor was recovering from the mental storm of the Storm Church Arbitrators, he heard Old Victor's telepathic message to him.
After transmitting his voice, old Victor walked down from the attic with a cold smile, without waiting for Connor to hear clearly, leaving Connor alone in the attic.
As soon as old Victor went down, the strange "tap tap tap" sound that he called a mental storm immediately disappeared. Wiping the sweat from his brow, Connor, who hadn't fully recovered from his headache, quickly used his mental power to sense the battle situation downstairs. Old Victor had made it very clear that he would cover the rear while he ran away first.
Through his mental power, Connor could vaguely sense that on the first floor, old Victor was fighting with three gray-robed men. Gray mist and sharp ice spikes intertwined, and the gray robes worn by the three men were clearly printed with white runes symbolizing the Church of Storms!
After glancing at the window in the attic, Connor didn't hesitate and jumped out of the window. If he remembered correctly, the house was about fifteen meters above the ground. With his physical condition, he might get injured jumping from there, but it would probably only be a minor injury and nothing serious.
"Clang!"
With a loud thud, Connor landed on a path behind the house. He frowned, feeling that he might have twisted his ankle, but at this moment, he couldn't care less. After figuring out the direction, he ran away as fast as he could. If he were caught by the Storm Church, everything would be over. Even his noble status might not be able to save him!
