Chapter 41 Processing
Chapter 41 Processing
Upon seeing the scene before him, Connor's pupils shrank to the size of pinholes, barely managing to suppress a gasp.
The room is only about ten square meters. There isn't much furniture or decoration inside, just a simple double bed, a large wardrobe, a dressing table, and a wooden chair. It seems that this room is a bedroom. Judging from the bottles and jars on the dressing table, there should be a female owner in this room.
But none of that matters!
What truly shocked Connor Ferguson was that a person was slumped in that wooden chair!
No! It's less like a person and more like a humanoid creature!
What a face it was!
There wasn't a single patch of intact skin on his face; it would be more accurate to call it shredded flesh than skin. Judging from the shredded flesh all over his face, even his own mother wouldn't recognize him!
However, upon closer inspection, one can still vaguely discern the person's facial features. But one of the person's ears and one of their eyes have been corroded away, and yellow pus is oozing from the wounds. If one looks closely, one might even spot small white dots wriggling on them.
This person's hands and feet had been completely cut off. If it weren't for his mental ability sensing that this person was still breathing, Connor would have really thought that this person was dead. Even so, Connor was shocked and couldn't help but sigh that it was truly a miracle that this person hadn't died after being tortured like this!
Looking at the dying "person" on the wooden chair, Connor really couldn't understand why Reyes had sent him here.
"Who is this person?" Connor hesitated for a moment before sending a telepathic message to old Victor:
Telepathic communication is a small technique that Connor recently mastered using his mental power. When using mental power to communicate telepathically, no one except the person you are talking to will hear what you are saying.
Hearing Connor's telepathic message, a strange smile appeared on old Victor's aged face. He waved his hand and began to chant a low incantation.
As the incantation was recited, a small gray bird materialized in mid-air. After flapping its wings a few times, it strangely and suddenly burrowed into the body of the "person" slumped in the wooden chair.
Connor was dumbfounded by what he saw, but what surprised him even more was what happened next. After the gray bird entered the "person's" body, a wave of gray light appeared on the person's body. Then something miraculous happened. This guy, who had been tortured beyond recognition and was on the verge of death, seemed to regain consciousness, and his remaining eye slowly opened.
However, when this "person" saw old Victor appear in his field of vision, his body trembled uncontrollably. He cried out in a broken voice, "Please... I know... I've told you everything... Please kill me... Kill me!"
Hearing this person's voice, Connor frowned slightly. The voice seemed familiar; he felt he'd heard it often from somewhere...
"It seems old Victor went too far, so much so that young master Connor hasn't recognized this person as Mr. Joseph from your Green University Library," old Victor said calmly.
"Joseph?" Victor's reminder instantly made Connor realize that the person slumped in the wooden chair was Joseph, the librarian of Green University, and the "humanoid creature" in front of him were completely identical.
"It seems young master Connor has recognized you. Well then, take a look at this!" Seeing the look of realization on Connor's face, old Victor tossed Connor a piece of paper.
Taking the letter, Connor hadn't even read the contents yet, but a quick glance at the handwriting confirmed that it was written by Joseph. Joseph, around fifty years old, worked at the Green University library and had reportedly served there for twenty years, knowing everyone at Green University.
When Connor first became a junior apprentice, in order to better learn the beginner meditation method he obtained from Vidal, he borrowed a Byzantine dictionary from the library, filled out a borrowing form with Joseph, and saw Joseph's notes. Joseph's handwriting was extremely awkward and strange, difficult for others to copy, and unforgettable after just one glance!
"His Excellency Bishop Constantine"
"The black pendant you bestowed upon your humble servant Joseph is acting strangely here. The strangeness originates from Connor Ferguson, a sophomore history student at Green University. According to rumors within the school, this Connor Ferguson is the first heir of the Ferguson family in Frosinone City in the eastern part of the Empire, and is the son of an earl..."
The letter contained only a simple hundred or so words, but Connor became increasingly alarmed as he read it. After carefully reading it, Connor felt his back was completely soaked with sweat.
Just then, old Victor tossed another black pendant to Connor. "Take a look," he said, "this is the enchanted item, the Vasquez Pendant. It's a mass-producible alchemical item named after Vasquez, the ninth pope of the Storm Church. Its sole purpose is to detect wizards. Once a wizard appears within 100 meters of this pendant, it will automatically tell the owner that person is a wizard! So, Connor, you know what I mean!"
As soon as old Victor finished speaking, Connor's gaze turned cold as he looked at Joseph, who was slumped in the wooden chair, looking like a man. The situation was now very simple and obvious: this Joseph was an informant planted by the Church of Storms at Green University, specifically to help the Church of Storms secretly observe who the wizard was!
He discovered he was a wizard when he went to the library to borrow a Byzantine dictionary. It seems he was quite lucky; before he could even send out the message, Professor Reyes discovered his true identity and arrested him!
"Thank you!" Connor whispered to old Victor.
"Young Master Connor, you're too kind. You're the professor's student; this is all Old Victor should do!" Old Victor smiled slightly, not taking credit for it.
"Young Master Connor, do you want to deal with him first, or send him on his way?" Old Victor said with a chuckle.
After glancing at Joseph in front of him, Connor really couldn't muster the energy to "deal with" him. He shook his head, took out a revolver from under his trench coat, and aimed it at Joseph's head.
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang out, and a hole appeared in Joseph's temple. Crimson blood and grayish-white brain matter splattered all over the wall, but Joseph's face, covered in bits of flesh, seemed to show a peaceful relief.
