Chapter 4 Knight

This incident made Connor a laughing stock at Green University, which made him very sad. However, against this backdrop, last weekend, just before Connor was cursed, Rebecca took the initiative to invite Connor to have dinner together at the Shamrock Restaurant.

When his dream girl invited him to dinner, Connor, all brawn and no brains, didn't realize anything was amiss. He naively believed that this was the beginning of his love affair with the beautiful Miss Rebecca.

Like watching a movie, Connor focused all his attention on Rebecca in the scene.

Suddenly, Connor's expression became extremely serious. He seemed to have noticed a problem: although Rebecca smiled sweetly at dinner, seemingly enjoying her date with Connor, her bright smile appeared very stiff, and Connor could sense disdain, contempt, hatred, and other negative emotions in her eyes.

Based on these two pieces of evidence, plus the background, Connor had reason to believe that Rebecca's weekend dinner invitation wasn't genuinely intended for them to share. Then the questions arose: why would Rebecca do this? And what was the connection between his curse and Rebecca?

Connor watched the scene unfolding before him intently, when suddenly, as if he had discovered something, his pupils shrank to pinpoints, and he mentally shouted:

"Chip! Pause playback!"

At Connor's command, the scene froze on the screen. Rebecca was smiling and gesturing for Connor to try the cheese-baked snails on the table. However, in the still frame, Connor looked miserable and seemed a little nauseous, but he still tried them in the end.

As he looked at the scene before him, information was gradually being processed in Connor's mind.

Cheese-baked snails are a traditional delicacy of the Kaman Empire, a favorite of countless nobles. When Connor was young, he was also very fond of this dish, eating it almost every meal. However, the natural law of excess applies to cheese-baked snails as well. Eating it every day, every meal, soon made Connor tired of this Kaman Empire delicacy. Even now, the sweet aroma of cheese-baked snails makes Connor feel somewhat nauseous.

That's why Connor was so resistant to the delicious escargot with cheese that night; he only reluctantly ate it because it was a dish offered by his goddess.

However, that night, after Connor said he didn't like escargot, Rebecca unusually kept trying to get him to eat more. Rebecca herself, on the other hand, said that escargot was too high in calories and had too much cheese, and that she needed to maintain her figure, so she didn't touch it at all.

After watching the scene dozens of times, Connor sighed inwardly and brought his consciousness back to reality.

Rebecca's behavior was highly unusual. Although there was no direct evidence linking the curse to Rebecca, there was no doubt that, given the current situation and for the sake of his own life, Connor could only consider Rebecca a prime suspect.

Having already known everything he wanted to know, there was no need for Connor to stay any longer. He stood up, casually tipped the young and beautiful waitresses who had been flirting with him a few shillings, and then walked out of the Clover Restaurant.

Walking back down Rand Street, Connor's face was extremely grim. The memory of Rebecca's alluring, poppy-like smile, and the cold gaze behind it, haunted him like a nightmare. But just as Connor was feeling incredibly agitated, a voice reached his ears.

"Hey Connor, how was your weekend?"

Connor was slightly taken aback when he saw the blond, blue-eyed, typical white young man greeting him, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Not bad!" Connor forced a smile despite his bad mood. The information about the person in front of him immediately flashed through his mind. This guy was named George, his classmate at Green University. Like Connor, George was also a nobleman of the Kaman Empire, except his father was a viscount. The original owner of this body didn't have many friends at Green University, a century-old institution, but George was one of them.

"Connor, you've been keeping this a secret for a while now. You've already enjoyed a wonderful evening with the beautiful Miss Rebecca? How was the taste of our History Department's delicate rose?" George whispered gossipyly, leaning close to Connor.

"Rebecca?" Upon hearing this name from George, Connor's eyes narrowed instinctively, and his clenched fists dug his nails into his flesh. However, he still smiled and explained to George, "I only had steak with Miss Rebecca at the Clover Restaurant. I didn't stay overnight at all. George, don't make things up!"

"Hehe, a good start is half the battle! Connor, I told you long ago, with your family wealth and your handsome looks, Rebecca is just playing hard to get!" George said with a grin, unconcerned.

"I hope so..." Connor shrugged, trying to sound relaxed, just like he used to.

Seemingly noticing Connor's unusual behavior, George frowned slightly and asked with concern, "Connor, are you feeling unwell today? You seem a little different than usual."

"You're right to think it's different. How can it be the same if the people are different?" Connor thought to himself, but he still went along with it and pretended to be troubled, saying, "There have been some problems with the knight training, but they should be resolved soon."

Hearing Connor say this, George's face immediately showed understanding. He patted Connor on the shoulder and said with a hint of envy, "You should have the strength of a formal knight by now, right?"

"It should be about the same, but to pass the Empire's test, you still need to practice for a while!" Thinking of becoming a formal knight, a rare smile appeared on Connor's face.

After finding that Connor was alright, George felt relieved. He chatted with Connor for a bit longer, agreed to go to a bar together on the weekend, and then, after a proper aristocratic bow, George took his leave.

Watching George's departing figure, a mysterious smile appeared on Connor's face. To be honest, he couldn't help but marvel at the wonder of this world, which not only possessed extraordinary abilities but also had knights.
