Chapter 11 Contraband
Chapter 11 Contraband
He gently knocked on the thick, ornate oak door of the private room, then walked in with a smile on his face.
The record player in the box was blaring Alonso's Fourth Symphony, a masterpiece from the Kaman Empire, considered one of his most classic works. Emotionally stirring and grand in scale, it's been called a once-in-a-decade piece! Unfortunately, the gentlemen and ladies in the box weren't listening to the classic music; instead, they were using it to mask their shouting…
Mr. Vallejo, who was "galloping" along, suddenly saw a smiling, uninvited guest appear before him, and his entire body went limp...
After a long pause, Mr. Vallejo politely ushered two somewhat startled, elegantly dressed ladies out of the private room. Once dressed, he slowly spoke, "Who are you?"
"Who I am is not important. What's important is that I want to buy something from Mr. Vallejo!" Connor said calmly, still smiling. After speaking, he glanced at Vallejo's right hand, which was reaching behind him with a half-smile.
Seeing that Connor had noticed his little trick, Mr. Vallejo was not embarrassed at all, and very straightforwardly took his right hand back and put it on the table.
"Drugs, a dagger, a revolver, and preferably anti-magic bullets!" Without wasting any time talking to Vallejo, Connor listed out what he wanted.
Although Connor received a magical item called the "Sun Badge" from his mentor Reyes, it was unfortunately only for defense, not offense. This was undoubtedly a significant blow to Connor, who wanted to strike first. So, after learning from George that a broker named Vallejo could obtain these contraband items, Connor came here without hesitation.
"My God! What do you need all this for?" Vallejo's brows furrowed deeper and deeper as he listened to what Connor wanted from him, until finally, when Connor uttered the word "magic bullet," Vallejo couldn't help but exclaim in surprise:
"Mr. Vallejo, you've been in this business for a long time, so you should understand this better than I do: sometimes knowing too much isn't a good thing!" Connor's tone was calm, but his words were full of threat.
A flicker of displeasure crossed Vallejo's face at Connor's threat, but being under someone else's roof, he had no choice but to submit. After a moment's thought, he said definitively, "The sleeping pills and the Kuzan are also contraband, but I have stock here and can give them to you anytime. However, I don't have any revolvers. As for anti-magic bullets, you should understand that only the police station and the Storm Church's chapel in the entire city of Rune have them!"
Vallejo's answer made Connor frown; he was very dissatisfied with it!
The Kulun knife is similar to a Damascus steel sword on Earth, an extremely sharp weapon unique to the Kingdom of Persis in this world. However, both the knife and the sleeping potion are secondary in Connor's plan. What Connor truly desires is the revolver, the weapon he intends to use against Lena and the potential Bilge Cult member Vidal. As for the anti-magic bullets, something only heard of in rumors, Connor is merely hoping to stumble upon them by chance.
Without speaking directly, Zhang Tongming took out five ten-pound notes from his wallet, spread them out, and placed them on the guest table.
"Mr. Vallejo, we don't know each other before, but I hope you'll sell me what I want for the sake of these gold pounds!" Looking directly into Vallejo's eyes, Connor said in a deep, deliberate voice:
Looking at the five gleaming green banknotes on the table, Vallejo's greed was impossible to conceal. His Adam's apple bobbed, and after a moment's thought, he spoke again, "Perhaps I can get you a revolver that's about 80% new..."
Half an hour later, Connor, carrying a cello case, walked out of Box 6, while Vallejo, beaming with smiles, waved to him from behind.
"Sir, please keep my business card. If you ever need my services again, please remember my name, Vallejo. I will provide you with the best products!"
Connor's lips twitched, but he didn't answer. Instead, he quickened his pace again. Connor swore that if he had no other choice, he would never do business with that vampire Vallejo again!
Although Connor Ferguson got what he wanted from Vallejo—the dagger, the drug, the revolver—he really spent a lot of money this time. In addition to the fifty gold pounds, he also bought forty bullets at one shilling each, spending a total of two gold pounds.
Now Connor only has ten gold pounds left in his wallet. Although ten gold pounds is not a small amount for most people in the Kaman Empire, enough for their entire family to live on for one to two months, Connor Ferguson, who had a hundred gold pounds in savings at his peak and was used to spending lavishly, is still quite unaccustomed to his current flat wallet!
"Looks like I'll have to rein myself in before the thirty gold pounds from the education fund are distributed next month!" Connor smiled wryly. Spending money was painful, but the things still had to be bought. Now that he had these three items, Connor felt his plan had at least a 50% chance of success.
Just as Connor Ferguson, satisfied with his actions, was about to leave the tavern with his cello case containing the contraband, a woman's shout caught his attention.
"You bastard! Let me go!"
Following the sound, Connor looked over and saw a petite, slender girl wearing a white veil, being teased by a red-haired young man with a scar on his face, who was holding her wrist. The girl struggled desperately to break free from the red-haired boy's large hand.
Unfortunately, the vast difference in strength rendered the girl's struggles and efforts futile. No matter how hard she tried, the red-haired youth held her fair wrist firmly in his hand.
"Hey little girl, do you know where you are? What will happen if you refuse me?" the red-haired youth said with a grin. As he spoke, the scar on his face looked like a centipede wriggling incessantly.
