Chapter 10 Tavern

Chapter 10 Tavern

After putting away the detective report, Connor nodded to Valverde and said, "I'm very satisfied with your work!" Then he turned and walked out of the house.

"When it comes to cults like the Baling Cult, the best way to handle it is to seek help from the police and the Storm Church. They are very interested in uncovering cults." Just as Connor was about to reach the door, Valverde stood up from the sofa and reminded him:

Slowly turning around, Connor squinted at Valverde, his eyes flashing with a cold light behind his sunglasses, though he didn't speak.

Sensing Connor's hostility, Valverde shrugged and explained, "Sir, please rest assured that I, Valverde, adhere to the professional ethics of a detective. I will not disclose this detective report to anyone without your permission!"

When he said "anyone," Valverde deliberately emphasized it, as if to indicate that his "anyone" included the police and the church.

"I hope so!" Connor, his expression softening, gave Valverde a deep look before pushing open the door and leaving.

Connor, who was leaving, did not notice the greed and madness in Valverde's cloudy eyes the moment he turned to push the door open!

Back in his apartment at 16 Land Street, Connor once again carefully read Valverde's detective report in its entirety.

An hour later, Connor put down the report and slowly exhaled a breath of stale air.

He already had a plan. This time, he would strike first, kill Rebecca and Vidal, and make them pay a bloody price for the sins that cursed them!

A detail mentioned in the detective's report helped Connor decide when and where to take action.

Rebecca bought a train ticket for three days later to Daka, a small town in the countryside of Loen. If Connor remembered correctly, there was a castle in Daka that belonged entirely to the wealthy merchant Fabinho, Rebecca's father. If nothing unexpected happened, Rebecca's destination in Daka would be that castle.

Having deduced Rebecca's destination, Connor felt his task was remarkably simple: wait for her at the castle, and watch as his former goddess walked step by step into the deadly trap he had laid…

Looking at the red house with the sign "Daddy Morgan's Tavern" in front of him, Connor had a very strong premonition for some reason that the place his good friend, George, the local bully from Rune, had mentioned where he could buy contraband would definitely not disappoint him.

Connor tightened his black trench coat and pushed open the heavy wooden door of the tavern.

As soon as Connor entered the tavern, before he could even take in everything, he immediately felt two pairs of eyes fixed on him.

Connor showed no sign of anything amiss on his face, but out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the two people whose gazes were directed at two white men who were cautiously observing their surroundings from a secluded spot. Although these two white men did not appear to be very tall, as a formal knight, Connor knew what kind of strong muscles were hidden beneath their short stature. Both of them possessed the strength of prospective knights.

"These must be the Morgan gang members George mentioned who are responsible for maintaining order here, right?" Connor thought for a moment and then identified the two white men.

Although Connor chose a time that wasn't the pub's peak business hours at night, this little pub, Dad Morgan's, was still quite crowded. The aroma of malty beer from the bar, the cheap perfume from heavily made-up prostitutes in the dim lighting, and the sweaty stench from groups of greasy drunks in the bar combined to create a strange stench that swept through Connor's nostrils.

In the center of the tavern, a cage more than two meters high stood, inside which two strong young men were engaged in a fight with no restrictions except for groin kicks and eye gouging. This was the most popular sport in the empire at the time, and people called it MMA.

Giving a warning glance to the thin figure approaching his wallet, Connor snapped his fingers and said to the bartender, "One tomahawk steak and one Remino vodka!"

Connor's order was quickly served. He casually tossed a shilling note to the bartender, indicating that he didn't need change and the rest was for a tip. After taking a bite of his tomahawk steak, Connor casually asked, "Do you know where Vallejo is?"

Upon hearing the name Vallejo, the bartender's somewhat ingratiating smile froze. He hesitated for a moment, seemingly considering the indebtedness of someone who had accepted a bribe, before whispering, "Box Six." He paused, then cautiously added, still somewhat unsure, "Don't tell anyone I told you!"

Connor gave the bartender an "OK" sign, smiled, and waved to a little boy in a tattered outfit who was drooling over the steak on his plate in a dark corner of the bar. After indicating that the steak was for him, Connor straightened his trench coat and walked towards the private room in the bar.

The man Connor asked about, Vallejo, was someone George told him could buy contraband from, and this was the man Connor was looking for.

Unlike the other private rooms, two burly men who looked like bodyguards stood guard at the entrance of private room number six, faithfully protecting its safety.

"Our boss has already booked this one!" Seeing Connor walking towards them, the two burly men exchanged a glance, and one of them, with short brown hair, stepped forward and said in a deep voice:

"If your boss is Mr. Vallejo, I have some things I'd like to discuss with him!" Connor smiled politely.

"I'm sorry, our boss is resting in a private room and is not seeing any guests!" Upon hearing the young man in front of him mention his boss's name, a hint of wariness flashed in the brown-haired burly man's eyes.

"Is there no other way? Could you make an exception?" Connor asked tentatively, still smiling.

"I'm sorry, I can't help you!" The burly man's attitude was very firm.

"Since that's the case, there's nothing I can do. I'm in a hurry, so... I'm sorry!" Before he finished speaking, Connor, who had been behaving politely, suddenly sprang into action, delivering a karate chop to the neck of the brown-haired burly man. Caught off guard, the man immediately collapsed to the ground. His companion, seeing his burly man attacked, was horrified, but before he could retaliate, Connor punched him in the stomach, causing him to slump to the ground like the brown-haired burly man.
