Chapter 1000 Meeting at the Bookstore

Faced with Connor's question, Philo, under Connor's gaze, fell silent once more. Seeing his silence, Connor felt a bad premonition. He knew that Philo's silence was an admission that the Storm Church had indeed used some kind of magic on him…

A dozen seconds later, just as Connor's patience was about to run out, Filo spoke again via telepathy: "Connor, do you remember the rune token that the Church of Storms gave me to prove my identity, the one I showed you last time in Ipurua City?"

"Although Christant didn't say it, I could tell that they tampered with that rune token. Although I was aware of it at the time, I was seriously injured in the town of Spal. I was at their mercy, my life hanging by a thread, so I could only swallow my anger!" Although Philo tried his best to hide it at the end, Connor could still hear the full of frustration and helplessness in his tone.

Although Philo was also a victim, Connor was still filled with rage by his words. He said angrily to Philo, "Philo, you damn bastard, why didn't you tell me such important information when we met last time?"

Faced with Connor's angry questioning, Firo seemed to have anticipated it. He transmitted his apologies to Connor telepathically, saying, "Connor, I understand how you feel, but if I had told you this last time, you would never have cooperated with me, so I'm very sorry... But don't worry, Connor, since I knew they had tampered with me, I was naturally prepared. I wonder if you've ever heard of the Blood Demon Puppet?"

Upon hearing the name "Demonic Blood Puppet" from Firo, Connor, who was initially filled with rage, suddenly realized something and a look of surprise appeared in his eyes. He asked Firo with some doubt, "You succeeded in cultivating it?"

"well·········"

In response to Connor's question, Philo first sighed helplessly, then explained to Connor, "With my current skill level, I'm naturally a bit short of successfully cultivating a Demon Blood Puppet. However, before my father went to that ruin with your mentor Reyes, he left me a prototype of a Demon Blood Puppet. After years of continuous refinement, I can barely use it."

"Because the Blood Puppet technique consumes far too much of my current mana. After using it, my mana will be depleted. Therefore, I have never used this technique on anyone. As a result, the Storm Church was not prepared for it. So, no matter what the Storm Church did to me, I can transfer it to the Blood Puppet. This is why I can still tolerate it even though I know that those bastards in the Storm Church are tampering with me."

Hearing Firo's explanation, and recalling the descriptions of the demonic blood golem's power in the ancient texts, Connor's anger at Firo for deceiving him gradually subsided, and his mind returned to calm. After a moment of contemplation, he transmitted his voice to Firo and said in a deep voice, "Is this why you asked me to prepare for you the potion to quickly restore your mana, the alchemical bomb, and the communication-enchanted items?"

"That's right. If the Storm Church really wants to kill me, I certainly can't let them slaughter me. However, after using the Blood Demon Puppet, I'll enter a weakened state due to mana depletion. So during this time, I need to quickly recover my mana and use alchemical bombs to buy myself time. As for the communication enchanted items, Connor, you know we need to cooperate!" Philo said honestly.

Finally, in order to get Connor to give him the item, Philo added very sincerely, "Connor, believe me, we're in the same boat and share the same goal. Helping me now is helping yourself; it will only benefit you!"

"If I die, Connor Ferguson, not only will you lose one person to help you deal with Reyes, but the Storm Church's attention will also be focused on you. At that time, you will be restricted in what you do. With me around, the pressure on you will be much less!"

Although Connor was furious at Philo's deception, after calming down, he had to admit that Philo's words made a lot of sense. As things stand, Philo's presence still had many benefits for him, at least ensuring that the Storm Church members wouldn't be all focused on him.

"Philo, besides this situation, is there anything else about your damn plan that you're hiding from me?" Connor asked in a cold, telepathic voice, his gaze icy.

"Just this one issue! I guarantee there won't be any other issues!" Seeing that Connor had chosen to tolerate it for the sake of the bigger picture, Philo said with absolute certainty:

"Hmph! Philo, I'm warning you, if you dare to play me for a fool again, or scheme against me behind my back, I'll kill you first, not even needing the Storm Church!" Although Connor chose to tolerate it due to the situation, he still couldn't swallow his anger and warned Philo in a gloomy voice.

Faced with Connor's warning, Philo, knowing he was in the wrong, had no face to say anything and could only suffer in utter frustration.

Connor took out his pocket watch and glanced at the time. He frowned slightly. Because of the Philo incident, his meeting with Philo was going to take longer than expected. He had to get back to Ferguson Mansion before De Zelby returned to the hotel in front of Ferguson Mansion, which meant he didn't have time to waste with Philo here any longer!

Taking a deep breath, Connor stopped wasting words with Firo, stood up, returned the book in his hand to its original position, and took out a black package from his spatial ring, placing it in a quiet corner of the bookstore. After doing this, Connor casually picked out a few books from the shelf, paid, and left the bookstore.

Although Connor's series of actions were relatively discreet, they naturally did not escape the sight of Philo, who was disguised as an old man with white hair. However, Philo did not immediately take action to retrieve the black package that Connor had put down.

After Connor left, Philo waited a few more minutes before closing the academic document he was holding, titled "On the Role and Practice of Roberto Soriano's Law in Chemistry." He then walked to the black package, quietly placed it into his spatial ring, paid for the academic document, and left the bookstore.
