Wizard Earl
Chapter 999 Meeting at the Bookstore
At this moment, the old man was holding a thick academic book entitled "On the Role and Practice of Roberto Soriano's Law in Chemistry" and reading it attentively.
Having locked onto his target, Connor didn't go directly to meet him. Instead, he casually grabbed another book from the bookshelf, sat down in a chair against the wall about fifteen meters away from the white-haired old man, and while pretending to flip through the book, he telepathically said to the old man, "I didn't expect that you, Philo, a wizard who practices blood magic, would be so interested in chemistry books!"
Upon hearing Connor's telepathic message, the white-haired elder, also known as "Philo," pretended to continue reading the book in his hand while replying in a calm voice, "When I first became a wizard, I was very interested in alchemy and had a dream of becoming an alchemist and personally crafting enchanted items suitable for my cultivation style."
"Unfortunately, although I had a dream, I really didn't have the talent for it. It took me a year to learn even the simplest thing, extracting metal particles from metal ore, so I gave up. But my passion for alchemy has never changed."
After giving a brief answer to Connor's question, Philo turned to a new page in his academic materials and then telepathically asked Connor Ferguson, "How did your conversation with Christant go?"
"Not good, not bad. He sent Dezelby, the one in charge of monitoring our family mansion, to come with me to look for the ruins!" Connor, pretending to read a book, replied telepathically to Philo as well.
One of the key reasons Connor tricked De Zelby away from Ferguson Mansion was that he wanted to come here to see Philo. In the valley near Ipurua, Connor and Philo took advantage of Van de Beek's injured divine sea and his ignorance of the surrounding situation to have a secret talk and arrange to meet today. It was for this reason that Connor arranged to meet Christant today.
"Connor, do you know something?" After Connor finished speaking, Philo suddenly asked him telepathically, seemingly out of the blue:
Upon hearing Philo's question, Connor neither confirmed nor denied it. After a few seconds of contemplation, he asked in return, "Philo, what are you referring to?"
"Christante!"
This time, Philo didn't beat around the bush and gave the answer very directly through telepathy.
Seeing that Philo was being so direct, Kang An didn't hide anything and replied telepathically, "If Philo is referring to the fact that Christant is the intelligence director of the Black Organization, then I do know that."
After Connor finished speaking, Philo remained silent for a long time. A minute later, he finally spoke in a low voice, "I only learned of such confidential information after becoming an informant for Black's organization, and you already know it, Connor. Your information network is far more extensive than I imagined!"
Connor's eyes flashed at Philo's remark. To avoid arousing Philo's suspicion, Connor casually explained, "After all, I've been in the Secret Society for several years, so I still have some information channels..."
Philo didn't say anything about Connor's explanation. He carefully considered his words and then transmitted his voice to Connor again, saying, "There might be a small problem on my end. Christant used the excuse of letting Van de Beek recover from his injury to transfer him away from me, saying he wanted to arrange a new partner for him..."
"Van der Beck's mental strength is not weak; my mental storm shouldn't do much damage to him." Hearing this from Philo, Connor frowned slightly and said:
"You're right. Van de Beck was in a lot of pain at the time, but after taking a potion and resting for a few days, he was back to his old self. Christant's excuse of transferring him away from me under the pretext of recuperating was just that—an excuse!" The white-haired old man that Philo was disguised as squinted and transmitted his voice to Connor.
Hearing Philo say this, Connor seemed to realize something and asked him again, "Do you know who Christant's new partner is?"
"Unsurprisingly, it should be a genius wizard from the Church of Storms named Milik!" Without hesitation, Philo said:
After finishing his explanation, Philo continued, "As far as I know, the Storm Church currently only has four official wizards in Frosinone: Christant, Dezelby, Milick, and Van der Beck. Van der Beck has been transferred away from me, and Christant, as the intelligence director of the Black Organization, is responsible for overall coordination, so he naturally cannot personally monitor me. Therefore, my new partner can only be one of Milick and Dezelby."
"Compared to Milik, who is also a genius wizard like Van de Beck, I was more suspicious that my new partner was the old fox De Zelby. But since De Zelby has been assigned to monitor your movements, Connor, it's quite obvious that my new partner is most likely Milik!"
Listening to Philo's analysis, Connor nodded to himself, then asked somewhat preemptively, "Philo, if your partner were replaced by this Milik, wouldn't that have some impact on the plan?"
"It's hard to say. I have a feeling that Christant, the intelligence chief, might know something, and the fact that he changed my partner from Van de Beek to Milik is because he's on guard against something!"
"Although Milik is young, judging from the various rumors surrounding him within the Church of Storms, I think he's a formidable character!"
"My friend at the Dark Beacon once mentioned this Milik to me. He said that two years ago, he carried out an operation against the Dark Beacon in Enderjasburg. During the operation, Milik not only successfully completed the mission and killed a senior official wizard of the Dark Beacon, but also escaped back to the Storm Church headquarters in the Imperial Capital Bernabeu after being pursued by three official wizards from the Dark Beacon!" Philo said calmly.
Although Philo's narration was unhurried and uneventful, the observant Connor detected a hint of apprehension in his tone. This gave Connor a bad feeling, and he directly asked Philo for confirmation:
"Philo, there was a question I wanted to ask you when we last met, but unfortunately our meeting was too rushed, and I didn't have a chance to ask it before that guy Van der Beck regained his senses."
"So now, taking advantage of this opportunity, Philo, give me a definite answer: while you were becoming an informant for Black Organization, were you subjected to some kind of torture by the Storm Church?" Connor transmitted his voice. Although he was still looking at the book in his hand, his eyes were glancing at Philo, who was disguised as a white-haired old man.
