Chapter 84 The Necessity and Plan of the Killing - Phase 2
Igor Karkaroff, a coward, a deserter from the Death Eaters, a wretched and anxious man who has lived in constant unease ever since he learned of Voldemort's impending resurrection, an unease that has not lessened even after becoming the headmaster of Durmstrang School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It wasn't until he learned that Harry Potter had come to France, that the boy who was prophesied to kill Voldemort had escaped Dumbledore's protection and come to France alone, that he realized how ridiculous it was.
But this was the best opportunity for Igor. If he could kill or even capture Harry Potter, he might be spared punishment for betrayal when the great Dark Lord was resurrected, and even advance further in front of the Dark Lord. So he came. Upon hearing the news, he immediately arrived near the French border. He dared not enter French territory casually, after all, he still had a public identity, and Dumbledore's reaction was so fast that it caught everyone off guard.
"That dark magic mark... it can't be approached directly using Apparition, is it a trap?"
Igor was somewhat uneasy. Under the moonlight, he looked into the distance and saw a city shrouded in an eerie fog. No one knew what had happened inside. Harry Potter carried Dumbledore's hopes, and there were even rumors at Hogwarts that Harry Potter had thwarted Voldemort's resurrection. It was perfectly normal for him to have temporary protective measures left by Dumbledore.
"But Dumbledore simply couldn't get here in such a short time... Apparition is certainly useful, but for some reason it's completely unusable around here, it's really damn bad."
The more Igor looked around, the more he felt that this place resembled an elaborately designed hunting ground, but the so-called Death Eaters and the true followers of the Dark Lord had no idea that much.
Igor looked at the group of wizards who confidently stepped into the thick fog and felt sorry for them, but what was even more pitiful was that he probably had no choice but to step into the fog as well.
"Come on! Old Andrei will never let you do anything to this city!"
The first Death Eaters to step into the thick fog frowned as they looked at the ghost before them. It appeared to be the ghost of an Auror. Normally, they would already be plotting how to create this damned Auror ghost, but not today. They had to capture that boy named Harry Potter first. The Hogwarts incident had shown that this boy was special, a thorn in the Dark Lord's side.
Several dark wizards raised their wands, ready to silence the ghost completely, but the ghost suddenly darted into the thick fog. The dim light from the streetlights was no match for the increasingly dense fog. Realizing something, they looked around uneasily.
"Bang!"
A corpse fell to the ground, its expression one of confusion even before it died. A bloody hole appeared in its forehead. Harry put away his rifle, donned his invisibility cloak, and moved to the next firing position. Regardless of whether the Death Eaters had discovered where he had fired, he couldn't stay in one place for too long. In the first phase of his plan, he had to exhaust the Death Eaters' manpower as much as possible.
"What happened?! What is this?!"
A Death Eater stared blankly as his companion fell silently, without any spells being cast or any magical fluctuations. He had gone from a living person to a still-warm corpse. Anxiety began to gnaw at his heart like a venomous snake. The Death Eaters, who had brought fear to others, were beginning to taste the fear brought by their enemies.
"Harry, are your hands shaking?"
Red asked softly, this battle was unlike any of the previous ones, Harry had to take lives with his own hands, one life after another.
"No... if doing this can save more people, my hand will remain steady until the moment I die!"
Harry's voice was soft but exceptionally firm. He took off his glasses. The scope of the rifle was something he had crafted himself. With the power of Illumination and Fire Stealing, it was a specially made alchemical artifact capable of penetrating the thick fog and darkness to aim at enemies. This was the source of his confidence in dealing with the Death Eaters in the thick fog.
"They are a bunch of complete villains... I will have no mercy on them. I am not an Auror... I don't care about any Ministry of Magic regulations."
Harry once again pointed his gun at a terrified Death Eater, his hand on the trigger and he pulled it, watching the Death Eater fall to the ground motionless, without wavering.
"You told me what kind of tragedy they caused, so I will never forgive them."
Red felt somewhat ashamed, after all, he had indeed sent an eleven or twelve-year-old child to the battlefield, and even had to take someone's life with his own hands.
But this shame only lasted for a moment. The Death Eaters and Harry were destined to have irreconcilable conflicts, and one of them had to be completely eliminated. So Red didn't need to think to know which side he wanted to keep.
"But Harry... our advantage will soon be diminished. These Death Eaters may be reckless, but they are by no means weak."
Red ventured into the thick fog, further unleashing his magical power. Or rather, as he did what he wanted, his soul gradually began to revive, providing him with strength.
He slowly approached a Death Eater, his wand emitting a beam of light. Before the Death Eaters could react, one of them had his wand knocked from his hand. A gunshot rang out, and the man fell to the ground, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"Apart from you, the weapon is indeed quite useful. Compared to those so-called Unforgivable Curses, at least it's much faster."
The small group of Death Eaters pulled out their wands and cast five or six spells at the spot where Red had just been, but nothing happened. Red in the thick fog was an unattainable phantom, so their spells didn't even brush against the hem of his clothes.
Harry ran through the thick fog. The Death Eaters had been trying to clear the fog over Strasbourg, and their numbers were growing larger and larger over time. Harry doubted whether Dumbledore could handle the hordes of Death Eaters, so he could only run, firing his gun and throwing explosives as he went. The Death Eaters' magic wasn't strong enough to make them immune to the damage from these things, so he wouldn't give up on this method.
"Grandpa Andrei!! We're preparing to move on to the second phase of the plan!"
Harry shouted through the thick fog, having already sniped at least dozens of Death Eaters, but their numbers showed no signs of decreasing. In time, these people would use their numerical advantage to completely drag him into a war of attrition.
Before that, they embarked on their final and most insane journey. A nearly decommissioned old train locomotive and carriages, which Harry and Red had rented with all their savings, were now parked at Strasbourg's train station.
