The Silent Bookstore Manager at Hogwarts
Chapter 22 An Encounter with Dumbledore
Reid sat in the Silent Bookstore's reading room, a room usually open to visitors who could freely browse the books on the shelves. After the administrator granted them access, they could put the books back on the shelves. However, on days like these without visitors, Reid simply used the room as his study.
"Now that things have settled down at Hogwarts, it's time to continue repairing the bookstore. Hopefully, Harry won't find it too tiring..."
Red set his sights on the main building's grand spiral staircase. This massive staircase had been heavily fortified by the previous caretaker before his death, making it a perfect spot for Harry to practice. After all, he had learned so much, and naturally, he needed to make good use of it. Hogwarts did not allow young wizards to use their magical powers at will, but the Silent Bookstore did not adhere to such rules.
Of course, before making the repairs, Red still planned to start reading the books containing the great knowledge of magic stored in the Silent Bookstore.
*The Awakening of the Sunrise*: A sharp, atypical meditation by Tuvagh, the Long-lived Blade, of Merion County. He later visited the Silent House under many aliases, usually seeking some kind of battle. (Secret: 4 [Lamp], containing the great art teaching: [The Observation of Dawn])
The meditations of a [Blade] long-lived being are a pretty good stepping stone for Red, since if he wants to continue to refine his great art, these books written by predecessors are the best nourishment.
Red easily gathered the criterion power needed to unravel the mysteries of the book, since his soul essence and the [Contemplation of Dawn] he had already learned far exceeded the depth required for deciphering.
"If light had sound, it would become music. If music could be seen, it would become light..."
As Red carefully read the book, he touched his eyes. "The Observation of Dawn" can be considered a kind of futuristic vision and telepathy that has been honed. It greatly enhances the eyes, but Red's current knowledge is still shallow, and he is unable to fully utilize its power.
Light swirled around Red, and strange phenomena appeared around him under the influence of the soul essence. Red's talent in spells and magic manipulation was destined to be unmatched, but at the same time, the spells he cast currently had a major flaw.
"Emotions can't affect my spell output... does that mean I'm basically out of luck with the Guardian Charm now?"
Red pondered the advantages and disadvantages of his talent and soul-based spellcasting. His excessively powerful soul and soul-based abilities made casting spells virtually effortless for him. However, the usual situation where a wizard's emotions affected the outcome of his spellcasting did not occur with him, unless his emotions were strong enough to dominate his spellcasting.
"Sigh, it's really frustrating..."
With a gentle wave of his hand, Reid returned to his empty dormitory. The things described in "The Awakening of the Sunrise" were indeed very useful to him; at least now he could consider how to take his "Contemplation of Dawn" a step further.
Before that, Reid glanced at the clock in the dormitory. It was already dinner time, and he wouldn't miss a single meal. Although Hufflepuff was close to Hogwarts' kitchen, extra meals weren't so easy to come by.
"Red!" Harry called out, patting the seat he had saved for Red, signaling him to sit down.
"Professor McGonagall wants me to join the Gryffindor Quidditch team..." Harry paused for a moment before stating what Professor McGonagall wanted him to do. In the past, he would have been very interested in Quidditch, but now he felt that reading more books might be much better than Quidditch. After all, the things he learned from the books Red gave him could change him in so many ways, and the gains and satisfaction he felt were much better than chasing the ball on a flying broomstick.
"So what are your own thoughts? I can't possibly decide what you do; that's not realistic."
Red shrugged and placed another piece of meat on his plate. He had used a lot of spells and done a lot of things using his soul essence today, and his physical fatigue and hunger were very obvious.
"I understand, I'll think about it myself..."
Harry's performance was unimaginable to Ron. It was Gryffindor's Quidditch team, after all! How much honor, applause, and even the House Cup could they bring to the school? Why did Harry seem hesitant and even a little reluctant to take on such a huge opportunity?
However, before Ron could even try to persuade Harry, Harry seemed to understand something. He nodded to Red again and then shut his mouth, making Ron swallow back the words he was about to say.
Red wasn't interested in Quidditch; the strange rules and the strange venues were far less entertaining to him than the fantastical scenarios he had in his head.
After dinner, Reid planned to stroll around Hogwarts. He didn't want to recklessly explore the huge castle with his soul. The castle looked similar to the one where the Silent Bookstore was located, probably with many security measures, and he didn't want to experience those things firsthand.
So he used his own two feet, dressed in a long robe, and moved quietly like a ghost through the moonlit castle corridors and staircases.
"Hello, Headmaster Dumbledore..."
Red quietly stopped, then bowed slightly to the old wizard in front of him. The old wizard, who wore glasses, looked incredibly kind. The two walked down the long corridor of Hogwarts without either of them speaking first.
"Mr. Reid, I think I should... thank you."
Why?
"Minerva told me about your situation."
Dumbledore spoke slowly, which earned him a face full of question marks from Red.
"Oh, sorry, sorry, Minerva is Professor McGonagall, her last name is McGonagall, I forgot to introduce her to you, Minerva is my nickname for her."
Dumbledore suddenly remembered that Red knew nothing about this, and then began to explain.
"I see... Actually, there's nothing to thank me for. I should thank you, because you donated a lot of things to the orphanage, making their spring a little easier."
As Reid spoke, the two of them walked to the door of the principal's office.
Without any command, the stone beasts guarding the gate made way.
"Red, if you need anything, you can come to me anytime."
Dumbledore suddenly spoke again, which startled Red.
