The Silent Bookstore Manager at Hogwarts

Chapter 14 The Wonders of the Great Art

Reid's campus life was a little easier than he had imagined.

"The courses at Hogwarts are actually quite...is it because it's the first year? They all seem pretty easy."

This was Red's first reaction. He listened to the lesson while thinking about his experience on the first day of school. To be honest, he was a little uncomfortable with the care and enthusiasm of his classmates in Hufflepuff. After all, it was really strange to be surrounded by a group of classmates on the first day of school, who were stuffing him with snacks and asking him how he was doing.

"After all, you live alone. You didn't have trouble sleeping last night, did you?" Justin rubbed his eyes. If necessary, he thought he could apply to become Reid's roommate. His roommates would understand.

"It's fine... much more comfortable than I expected. Let's go to class... This class is Potions, and I heard the professor is not easy to get along with."

It's said that the Potions professor is the head of Slytherin, and he's not exactly easy to get along with. Red doesn't know under what circumstances this legendary headmaster is considered difficult to work with.

As soon as class started, Red felt something dark, like a giant bat, enter the classroom. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was the robe of the Potions Master. Snape, wearing that robe, did indeed look like a giant bat when it billowed around his neck. Before class, he gave all the students a long and difficult speech, which was hard to tell whether it was meant to inspire them or to give them a hint about their bright future.

"I heard that Professor Snape was ruthless in deducting points, except from Slytherins..."

Then everyone heard Professor Snape begin calling out names, one after another, in a way that made everyone tremble with fear.

"Lakvinlaw loses one point because of your pathetic, empty head!"

Red glanced at the little wizard who was so aggrieved he didn't dare to breathe, then turned his attention back to the books in front of him.

"Red Maxwell, if you wanted a dung bead, where would you look for it?"

"Inside the goat's stomach, Professor."

"sit down."

Snape glanced at the strangely calm freshman, but paid little attention to his behavior, and continued to ask questions to the other students.

"In this lesson, I'll teach you how to make scabies medicine. Listen carefully, and if anyone dares to change the recipe or steps..."

Snape's cold, threatening expression sent shivers down the spines of the students. Red, however, was unconcerned. Nothing related to drugs and chemistry could be taken lightly. Tragedies caused by non-compliance with operating procedures were already commonplace; there was no need for another one to happen to a group of first-year wizards. Snape's attitude was understandable.

[Refinement and Promotion] not only gave Red some refined knowledge, but more importantly, it gave Red an intuitive ability to accurately select the promotion effect he wanted.

"Slugs, dried nettles, snake fangs, porcupine quills."

"Let's deal with the snake fangs first."

Red watched as his partner Justin picked up the snake's fangs and began to grind them carefully. He didn't really know how to make a successful scabies potion, since Snape hadn't even demonstrated it for them; he had just explained the key points and then let them try it on their own.

Snape frowned as he looked at Reid's table. Reid's movements were quite standard, and the little guy named Justin, although he seemed a bit slow, was still passable, at least much better than the Gryffindor idiots of previous years.

But something seemed off. Snape carefully sensed it, but couldn't find anything wrong. It was just a normal potion-making process, with no unexpected incidents.

"The porcupine quills should be added after the heat is turned off... and the stirring should be less vigorous."

Red meticulously recited each step, removed the crucible from the fire, and added the porcupine quills only after it was completely away from the heat source.

"The processing is barely acceptable, but if I were you, I would abandon your monstrous mixing method and your Muggle-like ingredient choices!"

The scabies potion was barely passable, but Snape was clearly not satisfied. After making a few sarcastic remarks, he pointed out the problems with Red and Justin's choice of materials.

It was at this moment that Snape finally realized what was wrong with him. Were the materials in the hands of this group of students really that effective?

Although he had some doubts, he didn't have time to investigate further, because soon students made mistakes in the procedures, forcing him to send them to the school clinic while yelling "idiots." In his mind, the students of Rackwyn Law were probably no different from those stupid lions of Gryffindor.

"The professor has left, don't be too nervous..."

Red pondered for a moment. He had unconsciously incorporated the techniques of [Refining and Elevation] into the processing of the materials, resulting in the processed materials being significantly more effective. This was the power of the Great Art; even without using much magic, he could accomplish things that many people could never imagine.

"I think the history of magic would be much simpler..."

After Reid finished speaking, Justin finally breathed a sigh of relief, because the bell for the end of get out of class had already rung.

The students of Rackwyn Law and Hufflepuff headed straight to the dining hall to heal their fears instilled by Professor Snape with delicious food.

However, Harry's school life was not as smooth as he had imagined.

On the first day of school, he got up on time and rushed to the lakeside of Hogwarts to start morning exercises with Red. The study session last night did not go past midnight. Red was just giving him a brief introduction to the concepts of "Refinement and Promotion" and their corresponding scope of application.

Of course, their morning exercise routine was very simple: running along the lake. Since they were only eleven years old and Harry was still too thin despite his improved physique over the past six months, each morning exercise session lasted only half an hour. Afterward, Harry could go back to take a shower and prepare for breakfast.

Then he encountered some trouble, such as... his friend Ron really treating the Transfiguration professor like a cat, or Professor Flitwick in Charms class fainting from excitement when his name was called, and Malfoy, that pure-blood nobleman with his nose in the air for some reason, harassing him every day. Although he couldn't teach Malfoy a lesson due to Hogwarts' rules, he remembered it and wouldn't mind teaching Malfoy a lesson to behave himself if given the chance.
