Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 16 Leaving Adrian
When Wayne opened the door, the two girls were still awake.
"Master is back!" Emma was the first to jump out of bed. She stopped in front of Wayne, looked up at him, and asked, "Master, are you alright?"
Wayne looked down at her.
"fine."
Ella also came over and stood next to her sister, quietly observing him. She was more observant than her sister, noticing several creases in her master's robe, but she didn't ask.
"Master, are you hungry? We've saved some bread for you..."
Wayne shook his head.
I'm not hungry.
"I need to get up early tomorrow," he said. "Go to bed early."
Emma blinked.
"Aren't we going to prepare anything?"
Wayne looked at her.
"Need not."
Ella also looked puzzled.
Wayne said gently.
"We'll prepare for the journey."
The two girls exchanged a glance.
Emma tilted her head: "Really?"
Wayne did not answer the question.
Go to sleep.
Emma wanted to ask more, but her older sister stopped her. Ella shook her head at her younger sister, and Emma pouted, swallowing her words.
Goodnight, Master.
"Good night."
The two girls climbed onto the bed and squeezed together.
The door closed gently.
The panel popped up.
[Audrian Public Opinion Monitoring - Tavern Special Issue]
[Time: Yesterday afternoon to evening]
Location: Oak Barrel Tavern and three other taverns
[Event: Public discussion about "Father Wayne's special abilities" has exploded. It started when a bald businessman mentioned the topic in a tavern, sparking multiple rounds of word-of-mouth rumors. As of early this morning, at least seven different versions of the rumor have circulated among the lower classes.]
[Note: The content involves your hands, your medication, and the state of some women when they leave the confessional. It's causing quite a stir, but nobody takes it seriously—after all, you're leaving tomorrow, and idle people always need something to do.]
[Interestingly, the general public believes that being able to make so many wealthy women so unforgettable is a skill in itself.]
The next morning.
Before dawn, there were already people at the church entrance.
The aunt who makes clothes was the first to deliver the clothes.
When Wayne opened the door, the two little ones had already changed into new clothes and were standing in the hallway waiting for him.
The two sisters were dressed in thick, coarse cloth with rabbit fur lining, which wrapped them up like little round balls.
Good morning, Master.
Wayne nodded.
"morning."
Wayne's gaze lingered on them for a moment.
He noticed that the two sisters' hair color had faded considerably.
In the morning light, one is pale blue, and the other is pale red.
Wayne looked into their eyes.
In Ella's dark eyes, a hint of blue appeared deep within her pupils. In Emma's eyes, sparks seemed to dance in her pupils.
The two girls stood there, feeling a little uneasy under his gaze.
Emma spoke first.
"Master, what's wrong?"
Wayne said, "It's nothing, let's go!"
When we arrived at the church entrance,
At this moment, the morning mist had not yet dissipated, and the church steeple was hidden in the gray-white sky, with birds flying overhead.
Marco was the first to arrive.
He stood at the bottom of the stone steps, carrying a worn-out leather backpack and wearing a faded old military uniform, with a short knife tucked into his belt. He nodded when he saw Wayne come out.
"Father Wayne, good morning."
Wayne nodded.
The second place to arrive was Mayfair.
She walked from the street corner, her pace neither fast nor slow, her black nun's habit fluttering gently in the morning breeze. She stopped at the church entrance, saying nothing, simply looking at Wayne.
Wayne looked at her too.
"morning."
Mayfair nodded.
"morning."
The third thing to arrive was not a person, but a horse-drawn carriage.
Two gray freight wagons turned the corner, the driver reined in the horses, and the wagons stopped in front of the church, the carriages packed full.
A middle-aged man in uniform jumped out of the carriage—it was the young steward of the city lord's mansion.
He bowed to Wayne.
"Father Wayne."
"Father Wayne, the lady asked me to tell you that you don't need to worry about supplies for the journey; everything has been prepared for you at home."
"all?"
"Everything." The servant looked up. "Food, dried meat, thick blankets, tents, medicine, changes of clothes, and a carriage. The lady said that supplies are scarce in Frost Town, so bring as much as you can. Two horses, one to pull the carriage, and the other for you to ride on the way."
Wayne looked at the contents of the carriage.
Enough for six people for half a month.
"Please thank you for me, madam."
The butler nodded.
Wayne glanced at the crowd, then at the carriage.
"Where's Lillian?"
The young man was taken aback.
"Miss Lillian?"
"right."
The young man turned and walked to the carriage, opened the door and glanced inside. Then he turned back, his expression somewhat subtle.
"Uh... Miss is in the car."
"What are you doing in the car?"
"sleep."
The young man stepped aside.
Inside the carriage, amidst a pile of bedding, a messy red head peeked out. Lillian was curled up in a ball, covered with the red cloak, her face buried in the pillow, fast asleep.
The butler was about to turn around and call someone.
Wayne raised his hand.
"No need to call anymore."
The butler was stunned.
"But Miss, she..."
"Let her sleep," Wayne said. "The journey is long."
The steward opened his mouth, but said nothing more. He turned to the side and pointed to the middle-aged man sitting in the first carriage.
"This is old Roger, the driver. He's been driving this road for twenty years and knows it very well. With him around, we can save a lot of trouble on the road."
Old Roger, the coachman, jumped down from the carriage shaft, and nodded to Wei En. He was in his fifties, with dark skin and calloused hands, clearly someone who drove a carriage year-round.
"Father." His voice was rough, but his attitude was respectful.
Wayne nodded.
"This is troublesome."
Roger waved his hand.
The butler bowed to Wei En.
"Father, I shall take my leave now."
Wayne nodded.
"Thanks for your hard work."
The butler turned and left, his footsteps fading into the distance on the stone pavement, until his figure quickly disappeared around the street corner.
Audrian was not fully awake in the early morning.
It wasn't that no one saw them off.
It's just that it's too early.
At five in the morning, most people in this border town were still asleep. Shops were not open, taverns were not open, and even the homeless were still curled up in the alleys, not yet awake.
As for the people in the church, there wasn't a single one.
Those monks, servants, and deacons who would usually bow and greet Wayne were all "coincidentally" busy with other things today.
the reason is simple.
Wayne has become too famous over the years.
Those who have spent decades in the church, watching this young priest steal all the limelight, how can they feel comfortable?
Uncomfortable.
So nobody came.
Just then, Marco walked over to the idle horse and touched its neck.
"Mr. Wayne, I'll ride this horse! I won't squeeze into the carriage with you."
Wayne nodded.
"OK."
Wayne glanced at everyone.
"Get on the bus, let's go."
Ella and Emma climbed onto the first carriage and squeezed inside. Mayfair followed hurriedly behind, finding a seat in a corner of the carriage and leaning against the wall.
The carriage drove through the empty streets toward the city gate.
The carriage arrived at the city gate quickly.
The soldier guarding the city was yawning by the city gate when he heard the sound of horses' hooves. He looked up and rubbed his eyes.
The carriage stopped.
Wayne leaned out of the car window.
The soldier was stunned when he saw his face clearly.
"Father Wayne?"
Wayne nodded.
"So early, what brings you here...?"
"Go to Frost Town."
The soldier opened his mouth, and it took him a while to react.
"Frosttown? That place where demonic tides frequently occur?"
"right."
The soldier remained silent for a few seconds.
"Leaving so early?"
"It's a long way."
The soldier nodded and stepped aside.
"Well... have a safe trip."
Wayne nodded.
Thank you.
The soldier glanced again at the departing carriage.
"The priest left so early, those people in the city who were preparing to see him off... must be heartbroken."
