Peninsula Cicada Song Diary

Chapter 11: One drink solved the problem.

Once the arrangements were finalized, everyone immediately began preparations.

Son Seungwan and Kang Seulgi went to the storeroom on the first floor to find tables and chairs, Bae Joohyun took a few wine glasses and went to the kitchen, and Bae Xiyan rummaged through the refrigerator for ingredients to eat that night.

There was a landline phone in the entryway, and Kim Ye-rim went over and dialed a number. The refrigerator only contained drinks and water, so she had to take care of the most important thing.

Have the property management send some wine over.

......

The items in the storage room were arranged in an orderly manner. Bae Joo-hyun and Bae Seok-yeon, siblings, shared a common obsession with cleanliness, resulting in little dust accumulation and a spotless, tidy environment that didn't resemble a storage room for miscellaneous items.

They successfully found a spare small table in the corner, and Son Seungwan and Kang Seulgi each carried one side, huffing and puffing as they moved it to the lawn in the courtyard. They also carried the stools back and forth twice.

"We're missing a tent." Son Seungwan wiped his dry forehead, his hair and eyes tinged with the yellow of the setting sun. "Otherwise, we'd have camped by the river."

"I think there's one thing missing," Kang Seulgi added seriously, "We need barbecue to make it a real camping trip!"

"We don't have a tent at home." Pei Xiyan happened to be carrying a grill and some meat out of the living room. After thinking for a while, he decided, "But there are still a few pieces of pork belly in the refrigerator. We can have a barbecue tonight."

"Daaaa!" Kang Seulgi's eyes widened in surprise, her smile spreading across her face. "Xiyan, you're practically blue-skinned!"

"Although I like blue... it doesn't mean I want to be Aladdin's lamp." Pei Xiyan pursed her lips.

"It might be Avatar, who knows?" Son Seung-wan raised an eyebrow comically.

"Is it possible that I meant Doraemon?" Kang Seulgi replied helplessly.

"What Doraemon?" Bae Joo-hyun asked, carrying a clean wine glass as she entered the courtyard.

"こんな事いいな出たらいいな, あんな梦こんな梦いっぱい有るけど~" Pei Xiyan hummed, "This is Doraemon."

"Of course I know it's Doraemon." Bae Joo-hyun gave him a reproachful look. "Why did you bring Doraemon into this?"

"Because I mentioned barbecue, Xiaoyan immediately said we'd have barbecue for dinner," Kang Seulgi explained with a smile, "Just like Doraemon hearing Nobita's wish!"

"Bae Doraemon?" Bae Joo-hyun looked at him with a smile.

"Is Nuna Pei Doraemon?" Pei Xiyan asked back.

"Slap!" Bae Joo-hyun slapped his arm. "You have no manners."

"Bang." Kim Ye-rin closed the door, carrying a large bag of wine that the property management had just delivered, and walked towards the courtyard. To make it easier to walk, she leaned her body to one side, making it a little difficult for her to walk.

As autumn arrives, the sun's direct angle crosses the equator and shifts towards the Tropic of Capricorn. Days become shorter and nights longer, sunsets are quick, and just as everything is ready, the moon climbs into the sky.

"Cheers!" *5

Under the moonlight, wine glasses clinked together, making a crisp sound, like the moon shattering inside the glass.

The meat sizzled on the grill, filling the air with the aroma of meat and oil. Bae Joo-hyun held a wine glass in one hand and used tongs to flip the meat with the other, her skillful movements making her look like a seasoned aunt in a barbecue restaurant.

"I'll grill it, unnie." Kim Ye-rin downed her drink in one gulp and enthusiastically reached for the tongs in her hand. "You drink more...eat more!"

"Why are you being so considerate today?" Bae Joo-hyun didn't refuse, and while helping Kim Ye-rin roll up her sleeves, she went over to her.

"Because she's become familiar with it," Pei Xiyan said with a smile.

"They seem to know each other quite well." Son Seungwan looked at Kim Yerin's slightly flushed face.

"Isn't the meat still raw?" Kang Seulgi looked up blankly, staring at the baking pan.

"Pabo, I wasn't talking about meat." Son Seung-wan sighed, rubbing her forehead.

The barbecue gradually turns from red to gray, while the atmosphere is fiery, the opposite of the color change. Dining culture is prevalent on the peninsula, with many drinking games, from red ginseng games and eye-matching games to 007 games; most adults know at least a few.

"If we're going to have fun, let's do something exciting!" After taking a few bites of meat, Kim Ye-rin suggested, "How about 'Titanic'?"

"Yilin, you only turned 18 this year, right?" Pei Xiyan asked, puzzled. "How do you know so much?"

He knew about the Titanic game; it required two props—a large mug and a soju mug. Pour some beer into the large mug to represent the ocean, then drop a soju mug in to represent the ship. Several people take turns pouring beer into the Titanic's vessel; you can fill it up if you want, but be careful—if you let the soju mug sink, it means you have to drink the entire mixture.

An absolutely drunken game.

Bae Joo-hyun's gaze held a hint of scrutiny, as if asking, "Have you been secretly playing around behind my back?"

Kim Ye-rin stopped flipping the meat, her pupils trembling violently. If she could, she wished the clamps in her hands were dozens of times larger, so she could clamp Pei Xi-yan's head.

Didn't we agree to talk things out when we were drunk? Why are you suddenly betraying me?

"I found all of this online! With the internet so readily available these days, what wouldn't you know? Hehe."

"Won't you get really drunk?" Son Seung-wan asked with some concern.

"No matter how drunk you are, I'll carry you back to bed," Kang Seulgi assured, patting her chest.

"Noona probably hasn't played this before," Pei Xiyan encouraged Pei Zhuxuan. "Why don't you give it a try?"

"I'll go get the cup!" Kim Ye-rin didn't give her any room to refuse and got up and went to the kitchen.

"Really." Bae Joo-hyun muttered, watching her retreating figure. She had a vague feeling that something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on why.

Soon after, Kim Ye-rin returned with a large glass, and Bae Seok-yeon opened a bottle of beer and poured half a glass into it. With the beer glass ready, Kang Seul-gi then tossed in a glass of soju.

The order in which the drinks were poured was determined by the empty liquor bottle. Pei Xiyan spun the bottle on the table, and after a few spins, it finally wobbled and pointed at Jin Yilin.

"Lucky!" Kim Ye-rin cheered and poured beer directly into the Titanic in the sea of beer.

In counter-clockwise order, the next ones are Kang Seulgi, Son Seungwan, Bae Seok-eon, and finally Bae Joo-hyun.

It was the first time for Kang Seulgi and Son Seungwan to play, so they poured very carefully. But by the time it was Bae Seok-yeon's turn, the soju glass was already half full. It had sunk more than halfway into the beer and looked like it was about to sink to the bottom.

"Pour less," Bae Joo-hyun said, biting her chopsticks, trying to buy herself a chance.

"Yes." Pei Xiyan replied, her hands moving without slowing down at all. More seawater poured in, and the Titanic sank lower and lower. By the time it was Pei Zhuxuan's turn, it already looked like it was about to capsize.

"Hey! Pei Xiyan!"

Bae Joo-hyun held the bottle of soju, unsure of what to do next.

She swallowed hard, pondered for a moment, and decided to press the bottle opening against the side of the glass, trying to reduce the impact on the ship by lowering the height. This method was scientific, but to no avail. The liquid she poured out brought the Titanic to its final straw. Although it wasn't facing an iceberg, 106 years later, the miniature Titanic once again plunged into the sea.

Looking at the sunken wine glass, Bae Joo-hyun remained silent.

Beer just didn't suit her taste, and more importantly... she lost.

"If Nuna needs help, I can assist her," Pei Xiyan said with a smile.

"No need," Bae Joo-hyun shook her head. "I'm a man of my word!"

She readily raised her glass, tilted her head back, and drank the approximately 300 ml of mixed liquor in one gulp.

"Bang!" The wine glass was slammed back on the table. Bae Joo-hyun wiped her mouth, a faint blush rising to her cheeks.

"continue!"

She was aggressive and wanted to get back at them.
