Peninsula Cicada Song Diary
Chapter 12: One drink solved the problem.
History always repeats itself; if the Titanic sinks once, it will sink again.
The second time it was Son Seungwan's turn, which shouldn't have been hers. But when Son Seungwan was carefully pouring the wine, Kang Seulgi "accidentally" bumped the bottle, causing the tilt angle to suddenly increase, and the wine poured out was like a waterfall that swallowed the Titanic.
"Mianane, Seungwan..." Kang Seulgi's acting skills were top-notch; her downcast and aggrieved expression seemed to convey apologies from head to toe.
"..." Son Seungwan looked at her and couldn't get angry, so in the end she could only comfort herself, "Kenchana."
This time, there was more wine than Bae Joo-hyun, and Son Seung-wan's face turned even redder after she finished drinking.
The third time, Bae Joo-hyun originally intended to use the same trick on Pei Xiyan. Her little hand was poised underneath, ready to deliver an "accidental" blow at any moment. But Pei Xiyan simply went all in and sank herself down.
He didn't want Bae Joo-hyun to drink too much either.
"I guess I got my revenge," Bae Joo-hyun thought with a sense of relief.
The fourth time, the fifth time...
The night grew deeper, and the moon shone brighter. The grill pan, now empty of meat, was turned off, and empty wine bottles littered the table and floor.
Bae Joo-hyun leaned against the empty space on the table, one hand supporting her face, her cheeks flushed. Son Seung-wan stared blankly ahead, while Kang Seul-gi leaned on her shoulder with her eyes closed. She seemed drunk; if it weren't for Son Seung-wan's support, she probably would have already fallen asleep on the grass.
Kim Ye-rin looked very energetic, with excitement sparkling in her eyes.
Pei Xiyan gathered the empty bottles nearby into a bag, then exchanged a wink with Kim Ye-rin before getting down to business. He suddenly spoke, asking Pei Zhu-xuan, who seemed somewhat dazed, "Why haven't Noona and Seungwan Noona ended their cold war yet?"
"What?" Bae Joo-hyun turned her head, her hazy eyes as if veiled by moonlight.
"Nuna and Seungwan should make up," Pei Xiyan said.
"..." Bae Joo-hyun didn't seem to hear her, and remained silent for a moment. Just as Bae Xi-yan was about to ask a third time, she spoke up: "Actually, we could have made up."
Why not?
"It's all Seungwan's fault."
"Is it all unnie's fault?" Kim Ye-rin whispered in Son Seung-wan's ear, broadcasting live.
"What?" Son Seungwan opened her eyes.
"Joohyun unnie said that your cold war is all your fault, unnie," Kim Yerin reminded her again.
"It's clearly unnie, unnie is so cold!" Son Seungwan shook her head, a movement that caused Kang Seulgi to lose her balance and fall onto the grass, instantly bringing her back to her senses. She propped herself up, her small eyes seeing Son Seungwan arguing, "I've thought about making up several times, but unnie has ignored me."
"It's because you weren't determined enough to make up," Bae Joo-hyun said, looking up at her slightly. "Why couldn't you have persisted just a little longer?"
"Is it all my fault?" Son Seungwan retorted, not to be outdone. "Doesn't unnie have done anything wrong at all?"
"Do I really have to keep trying to please my unnie?"
"But I did try to see you afterwards," Bae Joo-hyun slammed her hand on the table, knocking the chopsticks off her bowl. "You ignored me, didn't you?"
"Because unnie's resolve wasn't strong enough either," Son Seungwan retorted coldly. "Why couldn't you have held on just a little longer?"
"Wouldn't it be enough if I asked one more time?" Bae Joo-hyun crossed her arms, her tone as firm as a judge's: "Can you make up with me?"
"Is this what unnie looks like when we make up?" Son Seungwan said. "It looks like if I don't agree, unnie will beat me up the next second."
"So what's your answer?" Bae Joo-hyun asked coldly.
Son Seungwan stubbornly pursed her lips, and the scene suddenly froze, with silence becoming the dominant tone.
The three bystanders looked at each other, none of them daring to say a word.
Half a minute later, or perhaps a minute later, Son Seungwan suddenly left his seat, seemingly heading towards Bae Joo-hyun. The three onlookers were a little tense, watching intently, ready to stop the two if they sensed anything amiss, to prevent today's gathering from turning into a back-and-forth MMA.
But they saw Son Seungwan walk over and hug Bae Joo-hyun tightly in her small arms, just like many times before.
This already explains her answer.
Bae Joo-hyun was stunned. Her previously hazy eyes gradually cleared, and after realizing what was happening, she reached out and hugged her back.
The moonlight was serene.
The matter ended simply, like 1+1=2. The two embraced quietly, marking the complete end of their more than month-long cold war.
"Waaah~" Kim Yerin rubbed her face, overcome with emotion by the scene, and went to the seat next to Kang Seulgi to hug her, "We're finally back together~"
"Finally, I don't have to worry about freezing to death in the dorm anymore." Kang Seulgi grinned with relief.
Viewer Pei Xiyan blinked as she watched this joyous scene unfold. She took out her phone and snapped a picture of the two different hugs. After thinking for a moment, she sent the picture to Park Soo-young, who was back in her dorm. Then, she quietly began clearing the table of dishes.
......
After the happy ending comes the end of the show.
There are rooms on the first floor, where Son Seungwan, Kang Seulgi, and Kim Yerin are washing up.
In the bathroom on the second floor, Bae Joo-hyun washed her face and looked at Bae Xi-yan brushing her teeth in the mirror, and she understood many things.
"Your idea."
"What did Nuna say?" Pei Xiyan asked, her mouth full of toothbrush, her words muffled.
"They couldn't think of such a solution," Bae Joo-hyun said.
"?"
"Otherwise, Seungwan and I wouldn't have been in a cold war for over a month."
"..."
"Thank you," Bae Joo-hyun suddenly said.
"Do we really need to say these things between siblings?" Spitting out the mouthwash, Pei Xiyan wiped the foam from her mouth with a towel and sighed, "Nuna, this is too distant. Sigh, is this all there is to our relationship? Actually, I was adopted by Nuna, wasn't I..."
Listening to his incessant chatter, Bae Joo-hyun smiled beautifully.
The first floor was quiet; Sun Shengwan and the others had probably finished washing up and gone to bed. The second-floor corridor was eerily quiet, save for two footsteps of varying weight, pattering like a countdown.
Arriving at a door, the timer stopped, and Bae Joo-hyun placed her hand on the doorknob.
"Xiao Yan." She suddenly called softly before pushing open the door.
"What's wrong?" Pei Xiyan asked, looking at her.
"We'll never argue, right?"
This cold war with Son Seungwan lasted for more than a month. Their once familiar interactions turned into deliberate indifference. Bae Joo-hyun tried hard to pretend she didn't care, but she was actually as sad as if a piece of her heart was missing.
She couldn't imagine what it would be like if she had a cold war with Pei Xiyan, since Pei Xiyan had occupied more than two-thirds of her life so far.
From the age of seven until now... and into the very distant future.
She had never been so afraid. Even the thought of it made her feel suffocated, like drowning in the deep sea. Her breathing stopped involuntarily, and the air in her lungs slowly disappeared.
"Nuna's weather forecast is always accurate with me." Pei Xiyan's voice was soft, but the determination in her words seemed to weigh a ton, pulling her back to reality.
Not knowing what her own weather forecast was, Bae Joo-hyun took a deep breath. "So what's the weather like right now?"
Pei Xiyan pinched the corners of her mouth and lifted her cheeks upwards.
"It's a bright, sunny day."
"Hey! Pei Xiyan!"
......
The door in front of her opened and closed again. Pei Xiyan shrugged and dragged her still sore calves back to the bedroom.
