The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 72 Battle Before the Emperor
Larry, leading the remaining five clowns, had broken through to the outskirts of His sanctuary.
As the Shadow Prophet of Endless Song, she shoulders a great mission.
They veered slightly off the grand avenue, stealthily making their way along the abandoned, filthy pipes beside it. They used psionic powers to the best of their ability to obscure human perception, shield themselves from automatic weapons, and avoid every battle.
However, the closer she got to her ultimate goal, the more intense the Emperor's omnipresent, blazing light surged, suppressing Laril's psionic energy. She knew that every step from now on had to be taken with extreme caution.
The palace buildings gradually thinned out, and a wide, empty avenue stretched out before them. They had nowhere to hide, and ten imperial guards clad in black robes charged angrily toward them.
In Larriel's eyes, these golden-armored warriors and the previous black-robed soldiers had almost nothing in common except for their race.
The clowns did not want to fight His servants; they were burdened with a great mission, and the longer the situation dragged on, the more disadvantageous it would be for them.
They did their best to leap over the Imperial Guards, while continuously firing their Star Dart rifles to thwart their attacks.
Despite this, three clowns were still entangled by the Imperial Guards, and Larriel could only grit his teeth and lead the remaining two clowns to continue the charge.
With a few light leaps, Larriel finally saw the magnificent golden gate—the Gate of Eternity, beyond which lay His sanctuary.
The Imperial Guards had been waiting there for a long time. As soon as they entered the firing range, nearly a hundred Imperial Guards opened fire at once. Two Warhound-class Titans even roared into the battlefield with their destructive weapons.
The clowns danced amidst a hail of bullets, metal pellets whizzing past them.
Primitive and deadly, this is a typical characteristic of human technology; a single hit is enough to kill them.
"Stop! Stop!" she cried in the ugly language of humans. "I am Larriel Ray, sent by the High Prophet Eldrad Uslan to deliver an important message to the Emperor of Man!"
As soon as they finished speaking, a golden figure, accompanied by a shrill whistling sound that tore through the air, crashed heavily onto the ground in front of them at an even faster speed, stirring up a cloud of dust.
Before the smoke and dust had even cleared, a spear wreathed in the cold glow of the moon swept out, its tip leaving a silvery-white afterimage in the air as it hurtled towards Larriel's face.
Larriel narrowly dodged the attack by bending over, while the clown beside her couldn't dodge in time and could only barely block the attack with his weapon. The immense power made the clown's arm go numb.
Elpis made a dazzling entrance, wielding the Spear of the Moon and blocking the only passage to the throne room.
Elpis remained silent, continuing to swing his spear with incredible speed, creating a deadly net in the air that blocked all of Larriel's escape routes.
With no other choice, Larriel drew his sword and engaged in battle, and the two clashed. Larriel softly hummed a cheerful waltz, the clanging of weapons providing accompaniment to the song.
"Stop, Son of Hope!" Larriel recognized the newcomer's massive silver spear and attempted to communicate with him.
Elpis did not stop his attack; he glanced at his fellow Imperial Guardsmen in the distance.
The ten Imperial Guards blocking their way had now lost more than half their men. The clown's elusive and deadly attacks had inflicted heavy casualties on them, but two of the clowns had also fallen to the Imperial Guards' halberds.
"Elder Race, enough with the nonsense!"
Elpis gave the alien no chance to speak, continuing his attack on Larriel, fiercely slashing at the enemy's head.
Larriel leaped into the air, somersaulted, and lightly touched the spear with his toes.
Then, using the momentum, she did a backflip, the dance music she was playing changed, and the long sword in her hand drew a deadly arc from below.
As she attacked, she shouted, "My name is Larriel Ray, the Shadow Prophet of Endless Song. I have come to deliver an important message to the Human Emperor. Friendship! Peace! Cease your fighting!"
Ignoring the alien's words, Elpis raised the Spear of Luna, using the shaft to deflect the enemy's attack. Just then, another clown launched a sneak attack from behind, his power sword aimed straight for his heart.
Elpis swiftly sidestepped, avoiding a fatal blow, and slammed his right hand directly at the attacker. The clown's body twisted at an incredible angle, leaping forward as his longsword slashed horizontally.
Elpis leaned his upper body backward and kicked out with his left foot. The clown who had launched the sneak attack was kicked to the ground and rolled dozens of meters away.
Although Elpis escaped the fatal blow, his breastplate was ripped open with a gruesome gash.
"Friendship! Friendship!" Larriel shouted, the crude High Gothic language an insult to her tongue.
At this moment, nearly a hundred imperial guards arrived from the rear, roaring as they charged toward the despicable aliens that had invaded the inner palace.
Seeing this, Laril dared not fight head-on. She could sense that many powerful figures were on their way, many of whom were even stronger than her.
So she could only continue leaping forward, her dance steps elegant and graceful.
In the blink of an eye, she had leaped hundreds of meters. She was so close to her target that she could even feel a faint call.
She had approached the center of the sanctuary, and so she called upon the Lord of Mankind in her heart, but received no response except for the ever-growing Imperial Guard.
The Gate of Eternity remains out of reach.
Her last companions have been swallowed up by the golden sea.
They wounded some Imperial Guardsmen, but ultimately could not escape the weapons and bullets raining down from all sides. In their dying moments, they took the lives of three more Imperial Guardsmen.
They died in silence, just as they were born in silence.
Only Larriel remained to continue. One by one, she felt the death knell of her companions, her solo dance ending without applause.
A wave of despair washed over her. For a fleeting moment, she wavered, her heart pounding. She feared losing her life, but even more, she feared failing her mission. Therefore, she had to try.
So she lowered her arm.
"Peace! Peace!" she shouted.
Without a word, Elpis stepped forward and knocked her down with a single punch. The surrounding Imperial Guards instantly surrounded her and pinned her down.
"My name is Larriel Ray, the Shadow Prophet of the Endless Song. I am here on the orders of Eldrad Uslan to deliver a very important message." Larriel struggled to look at Elpis, knowing he would understand her.
It was time to present the token, but her arm was pinned down and she couldn't move.
A blow so fast it was impossible to see slammed into her mask, and her head was twisted painfully to one side by the force of the impact.
"Shut up!" a Royal Guard roared, the cold tip of his spear pressed against Larriel's head. "To slaughter in front of the Lord of Man, and you dare talk about friendship?!"
"Now, die!"
