Chapter 11 Choices, seeking advice.
"Good day, Your Excellency. I need to find some witchcraft techniques suitable for beginners."
Ron approached the spell-selling counter at the trading post and spoke to a young woman sitting inside.
The woman had an ordinary figure, and although her face looked gentle, she wore a cold expression, seemingly indifferent to everyone.
See for yourself.
She handed him a thick book, then sat back down with a cold expression, ignoring the boy in front of her.
He didn't care about the woman's attitude. There were plenty of strange people in the academy. Did he have to care about everyone's opinion of him?
Opening the book in my hand, the first page prominently displays two large characters at the very top: "Table of Contents," followed by densely packed smaller text.
Elements and sculpting, souls and necromancy, spells and curses... a wide variety of spells are listed here.
Ron looked at the small print in the catalog and searched for the few items he needed.
After searching for a long time, I finally found three recommended spells to learn in the general skill category:
Wizard's Hand, Eye of Truth, Lesser Low Energy Fireball.
The Wizard's Hand
[Rank: Zero Ring (Apprentice-level Basic Shaping Wizardry)]
He went up and rang the doorbell. Immediately, footsteps sounded from inside, accompanied by a girl's impatient question: "Who is it?"
As soon as the door opened, Ron saw Fiona with her messy hair.
"Junior?"
The girl's voice suddenly changed from irritation to disbelief, with a hint of awkward gentleness, and a slight blush rose on her pretty face.
He curled his lips into a smile, seemingly oblivious to her embarrassment, and spoke in the same tone as when they first met:
"It's me, senior."
After the two entered the house, Fiona quickly went ahead, tidying up the scattered clothes and trash on the floor while trying to distract the boy:
"Junior, I've been busy with experiments these past few days and haven't had time to tidy up. What made you think of contacting me?"
Ron, while curiously looking around the room's furnishings, answered the girl's questions:
"Senior, I was promoted to junior apprentice yesterday, and there are many things I don't understand. I'd like to ask you for advice."
"However, the time I came today seems a bit off. Maybe I should come another day."
Upon hearing this, Fiona's blush deepened, and she quickened her movements considerably.
"That's pretty impressive, but no need, just today."
After she finished tidying up, she noticed the smile on the boy's face behind her and said irritably, "Junior, did you come here on purpose to make a fool of your older sister? You don't even know how to help."
"Alright, ask me any questions you have. Just so you know, there's a fee."
Ron didn't mind; it was an equal exchange, perfectly fair.
"Senior, I'd like to know if I need to know any related knowledge to study witchcraft. Also, if I were to choose courses now, how many should I choose, and what should they be?"
"Let me think about it. These questions, I'll charge you half a magic stone in total. That's not too much to ask, is it?"
The boy nodded, indicating that there was no problem.
After receiving his affirmation, Fiona's smile became noticeably wider:
"The first question is, if the witchcraft you're learning is purchased from the academy, then you don't need to know the corresponding knowledge."
"After all, the purpose of the inheritance crystal is to help you get started quickly, which is one of the reasons why everyone wants to join a powerful force."
"However, if you want to enhance your understanding of the witchcraft you've learned and improve your spellcasting ability, then learning the relevant knowledge is necessary."
Ron stroked his chin, lost in thought; this was pretty much what he had in mind.
Just like solving math problems, the teacher explains it to you once, and you understand it, but you still need to systematically learn and practice a lot to master the underlying logical thinking.
Seeing that he understood her meaning, Fiona continued to explain the remaining questions:
"Secondly, I suggest you choose only 3-4 courses for now. This way, you'll still have some free time each day to complete your own tasks."
"As for course recommendations, I would suggest identifying magical plants and animals, and the theory of magic manipulation. These two courses will be of great help in understanding the world and yourself."
"The rest is up to you. See what you're interested in."
After Fiona finished speaking, she noticed that the boy sitting opposite her was still deep in thought.
Without making a sound to disturb him, she got up and poured herself and him a cup of tea, then slowly drank the tea while crossing her slender yet fleshy legs.
She would glance at him every now and then, a smile on her face.
The girl's teacup emptied and refilled repeatedly, and after what seemed like an eternity, Ron finally snapped out of his reverie.
He glanced at the tea on the coffee table in front of him, which had stopped steaming, and then noticed Fiona's legs, clad in black stockings, swaying in the air beside him.
He knew it was time for him to leave.
"Thank you for your guidance today, senior. It's getting late, so I'll be going now."
As he spoke, he finished the cold tea in his cup in one gulp, and took out half a magic stone from his pocket and placed it on the table.
He got up, said goodbye, and left.
Fiona nodded, without trying to stop him. She simply got up, saw him to the door, and waved goodbye.
