Chapter 6 The Scourge of God

Nord Province border.

Two hundred miles from the market, in a leather workshop, hundreds of human slaves were toiling away.

Under the oppressive rule of the High Elves, large numbers of ordinary humans were reduced to undesirable status for even minor offenses, becoming slaves like livestock, living in darkness and misery in the Bitter Cave.

The young and strong drove a herd of terrified cliff-dwelling antelopes back and handed them over to their fathers; the older ones were then responsible for slaughtering the antelopes, bleeding and skinning them one by one.

The thick, blood-stained furs were neatly stacked, piled up like a small mountain.

Once the high elf overseer had finished counting, he urged the laborers to load them onto carts and push them laboriously to the large leatherworking table.

Most of the workers here are elderly people or women who are not strong enough, but don't think that their work is easy - the pelts are laid out flat, cut along the spine, then soaked in acid, dehaired, and stretched and tanned... They mechanically repeat these tasks, and are not allowed to slack off in the slightest.

The foreman carefully inspected the finished leather, and if he found any piece of leather that was not smooth enough, he would immediately whip it and curse it incessantly.

Not far from the workshop, there are rows of fir trees.

A man was tied between two trees, his back already ripped open and bleeding from the whipping...

Exhausted and panting after half a day of torture, the high elf slave owner said fiercely, "Victor, if you dare to run away again, it won't be as simple as just a beating!"

The man glanced up at him, and said weakly yet stubbornly, "As long as I have a breath left, I must leave this place..."

"You tailless monkey!"

Enraged by this, the slave owner picked up a leather whip and lashed it across the man's face.

Whoosh—ah!

With a scream, the whistling arrow pierced the slave owner's hand.

The whistling of the arrow still echoed in the air when Luke spurred his horse and charged out of the fir forest.

More than thirty riders followed closely behind, their hooves pounding the ground and leaving several muddy tracks.

"Enemy activity detected!"

The foreman standing on the periphery reacted the fastest, grabbing the horn hanging from his waist and preparing to blow it.

The battle-hardened Roger was quick-witted and agile, and immediately drew his bow and nocked an arrow.

The arrow flew from the bow and struck the overseer squarely in the throat... The horn slipped from his hand before it could make a sound.

"Splitting into two teams!" Luke commanded as they sped off. "Rogue on the left, Puck on the right. Don't let a single high elf escape!"

Upon receiving the order, the riders split to the left and right while running at high speed, their movements clean and efficient.

The horse's hoof kicked over a wooden barrel beside the tanning vat, splashing the foul-smelling liquid all over the ground and staining the withered yellow grass black.

Soon, wherever the blade flashed, the overseers fell to the ground without a sound.

The slaves in the workshop looked up. Some stood there stunned, some instinctively covered their heads and squatted down, and an old man stared straight at Luke, his lips trembling, as if trying to confirm whether what he was seeing was an illusion.

Luke then dismounted, raised his nomadic scimitar, and instantly severed Viktor's shackles.

Looking at the battered man, Luke's eyes flashed with pity and anger: "Those damned elves... are you alright?"

At that moment, the slave owner with the arrow in his hand realized that Luke was the leader, so he drew his longsword and launched a surprise attack on him!

Viktor panicked, ignoring his own injuries, pushed Luke aside, and used his shoulder to block the fatal sword strike!

Blood splattered, and Viktor could no longer hold on, kneeling on one knee.

Luke turned and killed the slave owner with a single blow, then helped Victor to rest against a large tree.

"You're great, a real man!" Luke gave him a thumbs up.

Seeing that the slave owners and overseers were all dead, Luke walked to the center of the workshop and loudly announced to the slaves:

"Congratulations everyone, you are free from today onwards... Is there anywhere you'd like to go?"

The slaves looked at each other, all with blank expressions.

With the help of his coworkers, Victor stepped forward and said to Luke, "Sir, we have nowhere to go... We're willing to follow you, we'll do anything you ask."

Others chimed in, "That's right, we're willing to follow!"

Luke nodded, said nothing more, and turned to lead his men back north.

The hundreds of slaves followed in unison.

Including this leather workshop, this is the third High Elf stronghold that Luke has cleared... In the process, he rescued nearly 2500 human slaves and brought them all back to the Wildlands.

At this moment, in the Reach, the ogres are building their second and third wooden forts with great enthusiasm.

Due to the surge in population, the existing fortress exceeded its maximum capacity, so Luke began building new homes simultaneously on both sides of the original log fortress, about ten miles away.

He plans to build more wooden forts in the future, making them "moving" boundaries, constantly pushing eastward along the river... thereby gradually expanding human settlements.

Each wooden fortress has a complete military-social system that organizes people to engage in production in peacetime and mobilizes every man to join the army in times of war.

At the same time, Luke also had Amin dig three wide irrigation canals to irrigate the thousands of hectares of wheat fields that Chief Hagen and his people had cultivated, using water from the Hun River.

Because of the abundance of humus in the Hun River, their wheat is fertilizer-efficient and highly productive, and their rice grains are plump.

Watching the people of the leather workshop, led by Victor, spontaneously join in the construction of this new wooden fortress, Luke was filled with ambition:

A new human society is being born in our own hands!

Ding!

[Current population under host's control: 5886/15000, Remaining summoning attempts: 1 - Summon now?]

Luke's eyes lit up: Great, another summoning opportunity! But I wonder... which "tyrant" will be summoned this time?

"Summon immediately!"

As soon as he finished speaking, a dazzling purple light shone brightly inside his head.

Ding!

Congratulations, host, you have successfully summoned a tyrant!

The wind rustled the grass low, and in the distance, billowing smoke and dust seemed to rumble like thunder!

Looking towards the horizon, Luke saw a troop of iron cavalry galloping towards them... As they drew closer, Luke was both surprised and delighted to discover that it was a centaur cavalry unit.

[Character: Attila]

Race: Centaur

[Brutality Index: ★★★]

Combat Power Rating: ★★★

Strategy Index: ★★★★

[Initial unit: Centaur Ranger]

[Starting Reward: Centaur Tribe *1 (approximately 2000 centaurs)]

Attila?

Is he the brutal leader who led the Hunnic Empire to sweep across Eurasia, massacring cities and known as the "Scourge of God"?

Haha, my subordinates are truly a constellation of stars...

Luke was still grumbling to himself when the centaur was already upon him.

The leader, aside from being half-human and half-horse in stature, had typical East Asian features. His eyes were sharp as an eagle's, he had a small tuft of black beard, wore a fur hat, an old robe, and an iron sword at his waist.

"My lord, Attila is ready to clear all obstacles for you!"

[Accepted Attila's exclusive Tyrant quest - Devour 1/3 of 3 Centaur tribes]

[Mission Reward: Activate the next tier of unit - Centaur Raider]

Luke nodded in acknowledgment, then turned to Rogge and instructed, "Take them to the east bank of the river bend. The pastures there are fertile enough for these two thousand centaurs to graze and camp."

After settling Attila's tribe, Luke summoned over a hundred prisoners of war from the Benedikt tribe and brought them under Attila's command.

Looking at Attila, who was unremarkable in appearance but had a strong presence, Luke couldn't help but feel a surge of hope: Maybe... he was the one who could help me unify the Hun River and unite all the centaur tribes!

After paying his respects to Attila, the "new Chanyu," Bill then stepped forward and said to Luke:

"My lord, our army is expanding too fast, and with constant battles, we don't have enough pig iron to forge spears, scimitars, or even arrowheads... I'm afraid we'll soon run out of supplies."

Luke's heart skipped a beat: "How can this be? Weapons are essential for our survival; we can't afford to lose them... What if we have to buy them at the border market?"

Bill shook his head: "Firstly, there might not be that much iron ore in the market; secondly, the purchase volume is too large, which would be too conspicuous."

"The old chiefs of the Reach used to have a seller if they needed ironware..."

He pointed to the area above the river bend on the monster distribution map: "...This is it!"

"Onomine?" Luke blurted out.

"That's right, but the iron mines on the mountain are all controlled by the mountain lord, King Philip. We have to buy them from him."

Luke laughed after hearing this, "Alright, it's a seller's market now, so we can only lower our stance a bit... Bill, you and Roger will have to make the trip and pay a visit to the mountain lord of Ono Peak!"
