Chapter 16 Bloodbath at Golden River Valley

Messiah covered her mouth in surprise, her expression strange.

Luke watched this unfold, a thought striking him: I've abducted so many slave caravans, yet Neville hasn't sent a single soldier to wipe them out; but now he's making such a fuss over this girl… Her identity is indeed extraordinary!

Strangely enough, how did the High Elves pinpoint our location so precisely in this vast grassland? Could it be that they had locals guiding them?

"Bill, summon all senior officers; I need to hold an emergency operations meeting."

Luke then casually said to Messiah, "Excuse me, madam... it seems I need to deal with the invading enemy first."

Watching Luke and Bill's figures gradually disappear into the distance, Messiah wanted to speak, but nothing came out...

Wilderness, Golden River Valley.

The chaotic sound of horses' hooves broke the tranquility of the valley.

A group of well-equipped, robust knights wearing blue cloaks marched forward in perfect military formation.

They held long-handled lances, their silver chainmail gleamed with a mysterious light, and even their warhorses were clad in blue armor.

This time, Neville used his "old trump card"—the Northern Knights were the most elite heavy cavalry in the Nord province, and only those who underwent the most rigorous training could become one of them.

More importantly, the proportion of "mithril" used in their armor is extremely high, sometimes even reaching half of the total weight.

The entire territory of White Hart Castle has only about three hundred people in total... Neville directly lent one-third of them to Forth.

Closely following behind were lightly armed squires on horseback, their weapons not so particular—spears, sabers, knight's swords… a motley crew.

In peacetime, they assisted knights in putting on armor, maintaining weapons and horses, ensuring the knights were in optimal condition for battle; in wartime, they accompanied the knights into battle, carrying spare weapons and shields, while providing support, finishing off enemies, or covering retreats.

Bringing up the rear were the human spearmen, mostly sons of ordinary farmers, who received the worst equipment and were sent to the battlefield after only a brief training.

Although their individual combat capabilities are insufficient, their large numbers make them a formidable force... making them, of course, "cannon fodder" on the battlefield.

"Lord Fox, once we leave the valley, we can head straight for the Reach...that's the stronghold of the human traitors—Luke and his men!"

A member of the Bloodhoof tribe spoke respectfully to Fors.

Fox nodded in satisfaction: "Chief Pike has been a great help this time, and he will be richly rewarded upon his triumphant return."

The man was overjoyed and laughed, "I wouldn't dare. As long as you keep your promise and give the land east of the Great Swamp to our Bloodhoof Tribe, that's fine."

"I will never break my promise. Everything will wait until I destroy Luke!"

His fingers, gloved with silk, gripped the reins tightly, and a fire seemed to burn in his eyes.

A significant reason for his engagement to Myrcella was her prominent background; her father was a high-ranking figure in the capital, which could pave the way for Fox's career advancement in the military.

That's why he risked everything to venture into the wilderness and rescue Mysella... Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to explain it to her father, and his career would be ruined!

Looking at the imposing army behind him, Baron Forth's young face finally broke into a rare smile: Luke, you can't escape this time!

The army continued its march and was about to leave the valley.

Suddenly, the sound of drums came from all around—these were war drums made of special leather by the ogres, and they sounded mournful and terrifying, making one's heart pound!

As the sun rises, its rays warmly illuminate the gentle slope at the valley entrance, as if gilding it with gold; the name "Golden River Valley" is truly fitting.

Foss couldn't help but squint, feeling the light gradually dispelling the darkness behind him.

A dark shadow appeared at the top of the hillside.

Five hundred centaur cavalrymen, their upper bodies clad in lamellar armor made of countless stamped iron plates riveted together, lined up in three rows, firmly blocking the entrance to the valley.

Luke and Attila, mounted on horseback, stood together at the head of the procession, gazing at Fors from afar…

Centaur Raiders

This was the first time Luke had fought against the regular army of the High Elves... Luke felt a little nervous and couldn't help but tighten his grip on the reins.

Upon seeing Luke standing there so casually, Forston's eyes immediately turned bloodshot. He swung his knight's sword forward and gritted his teeth, saying:

"Good! Whoever beheads the rebel chieftain will be rewarded with 10 Imperial gold coins! Soldiers... kill them all!"

Upon hearing this, the knights were greatly encouraged, raised their lances, and fiercely pounced on Luke on the slope.

In an instant, all the raiders raised their longbows, nocked arrows, and drew their bows, their eyes fixed intently on the knights.

The distance between the two sides gradually closed, one thousand paces, five hundred paces, three hundred paces...

When the two sides were about two hundred paces apart, the composite bow emitted a piercing vibrating sound.

Hundreds of multi-faceted, barbed arrows shot out, weaving together into a dense rain of arrows that swept through the knights' ranks.

The Raiders' composite bows have a range of up to 180 meters, far exceeding the ordinary crossbows of the Highgarden Empire. Although they cannot directly penetrate heavy armor, a volley of arrows can still hit gaps in chainmail and unarmored areas of horses, causing effective damage.

After the rain of arrows, more than a dozen knights were hit and fell from their horses; the other knights tensed up, but still held on to their posts and continued to charge forward.

After enduring two volleys of fire and leaving behind thirty or forty corpses, the knights finally made a rapid advance to the attackers' front.

With a sharp whistle from Attila, the raiders immediately feigned retreat while turning back to fire arrows, luring them into a pursuit.

The Northern Knights had never seen such tactics before, and they charged forward recklessly, gradually breaking away from the protection of their squires and spearmen.

Their armor was already cumbersome, and they had already wasted a lot of energy, so naturally they couldn't keep up with these raiders; in fact, the more they chased, the slower they became…

Baron Forth, clad in full armor, panted heavily on horseback as he watched the centaurs move like the wind. He cursed them, yet he was powerless to do anything about it.

Harassment, luring the enemy, raiding, outflanking... these are the signature skills of nomadic cavalry. Attila used them with unparalleled skill and mastery, just like a top-notch master who could make even the most basic martial arts move look amazing.

Seeing that the opportunity had arrived, Attila sounded the horn of counterattack.

The raiders quickly split into two groups, using their high mobility to turn and maneuver, and began attacking the knight's flanks.

The two sides engaged in close combat, but the long-handled weapons were not to their liking, so the knights abandoned their lances and drew their mixed-gold longswords to slash at each other.

Even though the longsword mixed with mithril was exceptionally sharp, it could not harm the attackers in the slightest when it struck the dense and secure lamellar armor.

Without a word, the raiders pulled out their maces and began smashing them hard against the heads and bodies of the knights…

While a knight's heavy armor is indeed difficult to cut through or smash, it still contains flesh and blood. The enormous impact of blunt weapons such as maces and spiked clubs can still damage their internal organs and break their bones and tendons!

This tactic is simple, brutal... but deadly!
