Hogwarts: Who uses a crowbar in wizard duels?

Chapter 8 Snape's Approval

Snape patrolled the classroom to prevent any accidents. As he walked, he came to Kevin's side and watched him operate with a sinister look.

Kevin followed the dosage instructions in the book meticulously, but his technique was somewhat rusty. The temperature of the crucible and the timing of adding ingredients were difficult to understand from the text, so he had to experiment himself.

"Ha, what a ridiculous tactic, what a foolish view."

Snape watched Kevin's actions with some disappointment.

He thought Kevin would be a very talented student, but he turned out to be just an ordinary person, not stupid, but not talented either.

Kevin didn't respond to Snape at all; he didn't even notice Snape beside him.

His eyes were only on the medicine being prepared.

He was testing the accuracy of the books through practice and accumulating experience in techniques.

Since Snape didn't say he could only try once, he would try a few more times.

Kevin's potion was the first to be produced.

Snape walked over to Kevin, held up his potion, and smelled it.

Everyone unconsciously looked over here, wanting to know if this student who dared to confront Professor Snape head-on could create a miracle.

Harry and the others were praying for him.

"30 points! That's only slightly better than a troll's dung."

Snape said some very harsh things.

"Could the professor offer some guidance?"

"He doesn't even know where he went wrong. It seems that Mr. Kevin's talent and ambition are nothing more than this."

Snape continued to taunt Kevin: "Timing! Timing! Do you want me to stand next to you with a pocket watch and count down for you?"

And is your "Rejuvenating Herb" (a random name) really that valuable? Even mice complain that this small dose is ineffective!

"...Thank you, Professor."

Kevin understood immediately. He obediently took out his pocket watch, saved a 30-point dose of the healing potion, cleaned the crucible, and began the second preparation.

Professor Snape's sharp tongue did not affect his mindset at all.

When he first prepared the sample, he made a note, marked it with 30 points, and put it aside.

Take out a new sheet of yellow paper and record the second preparation.

This time, he checked the time with his pocket watch and continued to follow the instructions in the book, putting in the appropriate materials.

When he prepared the second batch, the others had also prepared theirs one after another.

As a result, no one scored more than 30 points; the highest score was Hermione's group, which only scored 20 points.

Kevin's second preparation of the Rejuvenating Herb was more fluid. He recalled Snape's demonstration: taking out a plant, folding it in half, twisting it, and then squeezing out the juice like wringing out a towel. The stem would split open, and then it would be kneaded into the crucible.

Perhaps this would better release the medicinal effects of the Rejuvenating Herb, so Kevin followed suit and used the same method.

Snape watched Kevin skillfully dispensing the materials, his timing precise and accurate. He didn't say anything, but his hands, clasped in front of his chest, unconsciously raised and lowered the fingers on the outside in a rhythmic motion, creating a beat.

Finally, Kevin's second batch came out of the oven, and Snape went to check it.

After a while, Snape raised his sinister face and slowly spoke.

"59 points."

"It seems Mr. Kevin isn't completely beyond redemption..."

The group of young wizards behind them were all surprised; their scores had almost doubled.

"Thanks to the professor's guidance, may I ask where I lost that one point?" Kevin said, hands on his hips, looking incredibly smug.

"You seem quite proud, Mr. Kevin. It's just a potion that anyone can concoct with a little practice. Even a troll, if properly trained, could concoct a better one than you."

"I don't believe it!" Kevin retorted directly, ignoring Snape's taunts.

"Heh, if you can't come up with an excellent treatment, then you're not leaving today. I'd be happy to stay here with you all night, Mr. Kevin."

"I'd love to, Professor," Kevin said to Snape with a smile. He was genuinely happy to be around Snape; he was sure he could learn a lot from him.

? ?

The group of little girls were dumbfounded, and Snape's lips twitched.

"Now, everyone else, get out of class is over. You, stay here until you've concocted an excellent healing potion!"

After saying this, Snape flicked his robes and walked out like a bat.

The other young wizards were either watching the spectacle or gloating.

"Kevin, you don't need to confront Professor Snape head-on. He's always been so rude."

Hermione walked over to Kevin, thinking that Kevin chose to confront Snape because he disagreed with Snape's way of speaking.

Harry and Ron also came up, their eyes filled with worry.

"I'm fine, you guys go back first. I think this potion is very interesting, and I'm not afraid of being kept after school."

Having no other choice, the group offered a few words of comfort and then left one after another.

After everyone left, Kevin did not make a third batch.

Instead, he sat down at the table to review the two preparations and Snape's demonstration.

It would be great if the old bat could demonstrate it again.

By comparing the two sets of notes with the contents of the book, I tried to find out where the problem lay.

His eyes darted around as he looked around, trying to find some inspiration.

As soon as I looked up, I saw that the top-tier healing potion that Snape had just prepared on the podium hadn't been taken away.

It was placed in a glass test tube, and the setting sun shone through the window, making this perfect potion glow with tiny, shimmering lights.

Kevin immediately stood up, walked to the podium, and unceremoniously took the potion that Snape had prepared.

Then he took out the medicine he had prepared the previous two times and poured out a little of each.

Kevin tried to smell Snape's nose, but couldn't discern anything significant; clearly, he lacked Snape's extensive experience.

I only noticed that Snape's potion had a faint, pleasant fragrance.

However, Kevin knew that Snape had plenty of ways to change the taste of a potion without affecting its efficacy.

So he wasn't sure if Snape had added anything to it.

Forget it, let's just try the medicine and see how it works.

Kevin gritted his teeth, found a small knife used for cutting medicinal herbs, and cut his arm, creating a short but bloody gash.

Blood flowed out, warm and covering his arm.

Snape, who was hiding in the shadows and using the Disillusionment Charm to observe Kevin, was also startled when he saw Kevin's actions.

Kevin took a sip of his 59-point work first.

The medicine is actually quite effective.

The bleeding from the wound stopped immediately.

Kevin thought to himself, "That old bat must have been cheating!"

However, the wound is still there, and it still hurts, but I can also feel an itch, which is the feeling that the wound is starting to heal.

Record the effects of this medicine.

Kevin took the knife again and made a new cut next to the first one.

Then drink Snape's top-tier healing potion.

The effect is immediate.

Both wounds healed together, in a way that was visible to the naked eye, although it was very slow.

Accompanied by waves of tingling, the wound first stopped bleeding, the pain immediately disappeared, and a warm current could be felt.

Kevin started recording the effects of the medicine before the wound had fully healed.

Perhaps Snape secretly added something to the treatment.

The disappearance of pain sensation is not recorded in the textbook.

And those warm currents, they might be related to blood replenishment and energy boosting, which is an effect that ordinary medications don't have.

Thinking about it this way, it's true that pain relief and blood replenishment are things that injured people desperately need. Adding these to the treatment is indeed a feasible method, and the effects of the medicine do not conflict; in fact, they complement each other.

"Damn, that old bat is a genius." Kevin muttered to himself, then immediately glanced at the door with concern. No one heard him, thank goodness.

Meanwhile, Snape, hidden in the corner, had veins bulging on his forehead.

Kevin immediately started looking up medicinal herbs for pain relief, blood replenishment, and energy boosting.

He ran up to the podium again, trying to deduce the ingredients Professor Snape used and in what form they were added from the clues he left behind.

But who is Snape? How could he possibly spill any potion powder while mixing potions? The table was cleaner than Kevin's face.

Kevin had no choice but to try and fail repeatedly.

I found some basic potions that are always kept in the potions classroom, and figured out the order and timing for adding them.

Kevin's memory was frighteningly good. He recalled the details of Snape's actions over and over again, noting what extra actions he had taken at each step, which slowly surfaced in his mind.

Time flew by, and Kevin mixed the potion more than a dozen times. His eyes gradually filled with excitement, as if he had discovered the allure of the potion.

He could feel that his treatment was gradually becoming better and more effective!

Then the door opened, revealing Hermione, Harry, and Ron.

They sneaked back, carrying some bread or other food in their arms.

"Kevin, we secretly brought some food. You'd better eat some quickly before Professor Snape finds out."

However, Kevin did not answer. Instead, he methodically added the medicinal herbs, his skill even showing a hint of mastery.

He was completely immersed in his own world.

The others noticed Kevin's condition and didn't dare to disturb him.

"Hahahaha! I've succeeded!" Kevin exclaimed excitedly as he concocted another healing potion.

The three children shrank back in fear as they looked at the somewhat crazed Kevin.

Without hesitation, Kevin picked up the knife and stabbed himself again.

This scene terrified the group, turning them pale. Hermione also noticed that Kevin had a dozen or so scars of varying depths on his left hand.

A gruesome gash appeared; Kevin had used a bit more force in that strike.

Then he immediately drank his potion.

A miraculous scene unfolded.

The wound stopped bleeding and began to heal slowly, and the pale face that had been a little pale from the pain instantly regained its rosy color.

In less than a minute, the wound healed, and the dozen or so scars from before also disappeared without a trace.

That's right, Snape, that old bat, even added a scar-removing potion.

"Hahahaha...!" Kevin was a little out of control.

Snape remained invisible as he approached Kevin's cauldron, secretly dipped his finger in the potion, and tasted it.

After a long while, he looked at Kevin, who was obsessed with the potion and in a frenzy, and at the trial and error notes and materials all over his table.

Finally, he turned and left the classroom, leaving only a number on Kevin's last set of notes.

99 points.

[Ding! Detected that the host has gained the approval of a key figure, Snape.]
