Hogwarts: Who uses a crowbar in wizard duels?

Chapter 7 Potions Class, Going Head-to-Head with Snape

During lunch break, Hermione excitedly shared her mental journey while casting spells with Kevin. It was the first time someone had shared their learning achievements with her, and she was very happy.

Kevin listened quietly, occasionally offering a few comments.

Harry and Ron followed behind, feeling somewhat superfluous, as they couldn't understand a word Kevin and Hermione were saying.

When we arrived at the meeting hall, we all had lunch together.

Seeing Harry engrossed in his meal, Kevin thought for a moment and decided to give him a reminder.

"Harry, have you read your books for Potions class this afternoon?"

Harry looked up blankly.

Shouldn't you ask Hermione that?

Hermione was also wondering why Kevin didn't ask her.

"Harry, you know you're a big celebrity. Your parents also studied at Hogwarts and were quite famous. I heard that Professor Snape, who teaches Potions, seems to dislike your father. I think you might be targeted. You might want to do some research beforehand."

Hermione and Harry were both curious about where Kevin had heard it. Harry wanted to know more about his parents, while Hermione was simply curious about the gossip. Only Ron was still eating.

"Uh, I just picked up a book randomly in Diagon Alley, it was some kind of miscellaneous talk..." Kevin couldn't tell the real reason, so he just made one up.

"Don't expect an orphan like me to know too much."

Kevin once again used his orphan status as a shield.

The two of them didn't press the matter any further.

After Harry finished eating, he completely forgot about Kevin's instruction to review the Potions book. The group went to the library together, and he only wanted to find Kevin's ramblings and learn more about his parents. Even Ron helped him look for more information.

Kevin and Hermione picked up a book of potions and began to read.

Kevin was quite interested in potions, such as the Felix Felicis, which made people incredibly lucky, the Truth Potion, which made people unable to lie, and even the potion of immortality.

However, he only read basic books, which did not mention these advanced potions, and he did not know whether the elixir of immortality required the use of a magic stone to make it.

He was even more eager to find out if he could find the mixed-race prince's wealth.

The lunch break ended quickly, and the group headed to the Potions classroom together.

Kevin and the others sat together at the long table, next to Harry.

He wasn't afraid of being caught in the crossfire with Harry, because he had thought about it for a long time and decided to confront Snape head-on to see if he could get his attention.

Soon it was time for class.

With a loud bang, the classroom's iron door was violently pushed open, and Snape's booming voice rang out.

"In my class, you are not allowed to use wands or recite spells randomly."

Upon entering, a sense of oppression filled the air. Snape strode up to the podium and looked down at the group of little rascals below.

"I think many of you can't comprehend the profound, scientific, and meticulous process involved in making potions."

Only those with talent and ambition can understand the magic potion that flows into people's blood, the wondrous power that captivates the mind and confuses the will.

I will teach you how to increase your reputation, cultivate brilliance, and even how to make the elixir of immortality.

As soon as Snape took the stage, he acted like a pyramid scheme leader, talking about the wonders of potions and tempting the group of little kids who had never been exposed to potions before.

Kevin had just noticed Harry writing something on the side, and he nudged Harry to tell him not to move.

Before Snape could even begin to make things difficult for Harry, Kevin raised his hand first.

Snape hadn't intended to pay any attention, but then he suddenly realized that this boy was the same one he'd seen training that morning, and hesitated for a few seconds.

"Mr. Kevin."

Snape crossed his arms and gestured with his chin toward Kevin.

"Professor, does the elixir of immortality require a Philosopher's Stone to be made?"

"..."

The whole class stared silently at the incredible question Kevin had asked.

Hermione and the others were equally taken aback. Was this a question they, as first-year students, should be asking?

Putting aside the fact that the Philosopher's Stone is something they've never even heard of, just considering the elixir of immortality, it's clear that this level of potion is not something these junior wizards should be considering.

"...Mr. Kevin, what kind of confidence makes you ask such a stupid, arrogant, and ridiculous question?"

Snape walked up to Kevin's desk with a grim face, exuding a terrifying aura.

Kevin admitted he was a little taken aback.

But he still forced himself to continue, "You were the one who said we should be ambitious..."

"Oh, I see. I wonder if your keen ears heard the previous sentence, 'and talent'?"

"So, do I need to?" Kevin persisted, genuinely curious.

"..."

"Since Mr. Kevin is so interested in potions, let me ask you, what do you get when you add narcissus bulb powder to wormwood stem sap?"

"You can obtain the Water of Life and Death, a powerful sleeping pill."

Snape, seeing Kevin's calm gaze, seemed quite unhappy and raised his voice, "If I wanted a dung heap, where would I find one?"

"Professor in the stomach of a goat."

Snape continued, "What's the difference between Aconitum carmichaelii and Aconitum davidii?"

"There is no difference."

Kevin answered fluently throughout.

"Ha, it seems Mr. Kevin certainly has reason to be confident. But do you really think that by simply memorizing some basic knowledge, you can aim too high and try to understand things that are beyond your reach?"

Snape sneered, showing no appreciation for Kevin's correct answer, and continued to mock him.

"I don't think any knowledge is divided into high and low levels, Professor," Kevin retorted directly.

The other students in the classroom swallowed hard, and even Draco admired Kevin for daring to talk back to Professor Snape like that.

"Hehehe..." Snape chuckled sinisterly, a laugh so terrifying that it sent chills down the spines of all the young wizards.

"Then you should know that knowledge is in my hands. Whether I want to teach you or not is entirely up to me, so now, be quiet!"

Professor Snape could change his expression in an instant; one second he was smiling like a viper, and the next he had a deadpan expression, directly confronting Kevin before immediately getting into class mode.

As expected of him, he doesn't suffer any loss and immediately ended the conversation.

Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the others secretly gave Kevin a thumbs up.

Snape's reputation as a potion master was well-deserved; he concocted a healing potion on the spot, the process as if it were an art, done with effortless ease.

The newly produced healing medicine radiated a light that he couldn't afford; it was definitely the top-tier healing medicine.

"I don't expect you to make any respectable medicines, I just hope you don't concoct a disgusting, dangerous, and shameful liquid like some troll."

"And you, Mr. Kevin, if you can't concoct a proper treatment, then you're not leaving get out of class. Stay here tonight and spend the rest of the night with your ridiculous ambitions."

Snape had everyone work in pairs to brew potions, but Kevin was assigned to a solo group and given a separate task.

"No problem, Professor. If I manage to concoct a suitable potion, could you perhaps have some hope for my ridiculous ambition?"

"Ha, you're not worthy to make demands of me now, Mr. Kevin." Snape sneered, directly rejecting Kevin's question.

He had been interested in potions for a while, and he thought it would be a good way to attract Snape's attention.

Old Bat is all bark and no bite; if he shows enough talent, he believes Old Bat won't turn a blind eye.

Just because he's not good enough now doesn't mean he won't be good enough in the future.

Harry and the others looked at Kevin with concern, but Kevin just smiled at them and began to seriously prepare the potion.

He had read many books on potions before, and he had paid special attention to the most classic blue and red potions.

To be honest, these potions were a bit too advanced for the task, which is why Snape didn't ask these little rascals to complete them on the spot.

Except for Kevin.

He learned the potion with an IQ of 10, and now with an IQ of 20, and with the guidance of the great master Snape, Kevin is confident he can concoct it.

However, Snape didn't reveal any profound details, so Kevin could only try to concoct the medicine by recalling the methods Snape had previously demonstrated, combining them with the dosages of various herbs in the textbook, and then making modifications.

After a heated exchange with Snape, Kevin was somewhat annoyed and wanted to create his own book, Kevin's Treasure.
