Chapter 7 Survivors, Picking Up a Knife and Becoming a Demon!

Chen Xin retreated step by step, tilting his head back, but he couldn't catch his breath.

The walls were pure white and the ceiling stood tall. In that spotless and clean place, a strangely shaped dead infant was clinging to it!

Its body was bluish-gray, except for its hands which were stained with blood. Its body was so small as to be deformed, but its head was larger than that of an adult, as if it were filled with pus and filth, and its eyes were distorted and bulging.

The umbilical cord was still attached, clinging to a bloody, mangled sac, resembling a sling used for climbing rocks and walls.

Especially that gaping, bloody gash, wide open and disregarding everything, squeezed and deformed the entire face along with the eyeballs.

Between the opening and closing of its swollen pupils, black, pus-like fluid oozed out, and the icy sensation that wrapped around Chen Xin's neck was a drop of water dripping from its skull.

This is a real ruin, not a fake illusion!

Yet, before his eyes, this worldview-shattering scene still unfolded.

The monstrous infant was emaciated, yet its limbs were as long as an adult's. It hung upside down from the roof, its inhuman expression ferocious, and it was still uttering intermittent curses and venomous incantations.

Chen Xin stared in horror at the monster that clearly did not belong to reality. He had no other thought than to wake Su Ruier. He twisted his waist, turned around, and jumped up in one smooth motion.

He leaped to the door like a bodybuilder, unlocked it with a single chop, and without even putting on his shoes, he took off running.

He never imagined that he, a frail scholar, could walk so swiftly and effortlessly, leaving everyone else in the dust.

"Am I that strong?"

"Now who can tell me apart from Bolt?" His extraordinary speed boosted his confidence. He didn't even feel any difficulty breathing, and he even had time to look back.

But that one glance immediately sent shivers down his spine.

The bizarre dead infant was covered in wildly growing silver hairs—dense, thread-like structures danced wildly inside its body, squeezing out large lumps from its thin, cicada-wing-like skin, and then bringing out large chunks of rotten flesh that burrowed out awkwardly, just like a horsehair worm that had deeply parasitized a living organism!

As the hair grew thicker, the dead infant howled angrily like a demon, its almost drooping eyes turning blood red, staring directly at Chen Xin's back, who was smugly pleased with himself because of his overflowing confidence.

It simply kicked its withered limbs, and its entire body shot forward like an arrow. Chen Xin, whose eyesight had inexplicably become abnormal, even noticed the cracks in the wall where it had just stood.

Even now, Chen Xin was still thinking about her good habit of closing doors behind her, so the door she was about to close collided violently with its rapidly rushing figure.

But the security door, which even an ordinary person would have difficulty breaking with a sledgehammer, suddenly let out a muffled, thunderous scream. The top corner of the steel frame immediately bent and cracked, and the remaining force carried the entire door to crash against the wall, producing a teeth-grinding tremor.

However, the sturdiness of the security door was not entirely ineffective. The little monster lost half of its momentum and fell into the dusty stairwell, rolling around and around, making a crisp sound as its wet flesh collided with the stone slabs.

Chen Xin glanced at the elevator, which was still on the first floor, and rushed into the stairwell without hesitation. He was glad that he had played a lot of horror games, and the habit of closing doors to hinder pursuing enemies while escaping had been ingrained in his instincts.

The dead baby is still silent, probably because it was hit hard and is in a daze for a while.

And this was the perfect opportunity for him to escape!

"I've attracted this guy's attention, so Su Ruier should be alright for now, right?" Chen Xin took ten steps in two strides, fast and steady, keeping an eye on his feet while also thinking about others.

As the stairs spiraled repeatedly, the number kept getting smaller with each glance up, and soon we reached the number five!

Chen Xin's eyes lit up. The receding adrenaline made him feel tired, but he finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

"Stop!" Chen Jing's voice was like a thunderbolt, and Chen Xin was stunned involuntarily. His steps suddenly stopped, and the speed of his upper body almost caused him to stumble and tumble down.

Fortunately, he had a strong core and good balance, and he stopped moving in an instant.

Then a sharp whistling sound as if the air was being violently pushed aside swept overhead, and a lump of rotten flesh slammed onto the step he was about to step onto.

A crisp sizzling sound echoed in the quiet hallway, and Chen Xin stared at the thing in front of her, momentarily unable to react.

That was none other than the grayish-blue dead infant from before, now smashed into a pile of mud.

"Did it jump straight down from the 13th floor? Are you kidding me?" Chen Xin looked nervously at the limp, writhing thing not far away. For a moment, the whole world seemed to consist only of his roaring heart and his increasingly rapid breathing.

"Is he still alive?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a silver thread emerged from the mud that was no longer recognizable as human, supporting a somewhat shriveled eyeball that was staring intently at Chen Xin above.

After a short while, the large and small eyes stared at each other, and a large number of silver threads suddenly surged wildly, re-outlining and supporting the dead infant's body. The limp limbs could no longer be used for walking, so those threads took their place as its hands and feet!

"Well (1)!" Chen Xin, who was cursing loudly, did not panic. He braced himself on the handrail, raised his legs and twisted his waist, and flipped down, landing on the handrail below.

The dead infant was still crying out pitifully, and the silver thread continued its swift ascent, climbing the wall and leaving behind a trail of gray-black slurry.

Chen Xin slid down the escalator for a while, and the burning sensation in her feet temporarily subsided, but it was soon used as a brake, leaving behind completely detached, bloody skin on the ground.

His bare feet were in excruciating pain, but Chen Xin dared not stop for even a moment. Taking advantage of the lingering adrenaline rush, he ignored the sharp pain of the gravel pricking his feet and ran even faster.

Suddenly, a howling wind rushed to Chen Xin's ears. He tilted his head and bent over. Almost simultaneously, the dark figure shot over like lightning and crashed headfirst into the handrail.

The violent tremors spread to the handrails of the entire floor. Chen Xin belatedly turned around in surprise and saw that the bloody mouth had torn off pig iron and hardwood.

"Good teeth! No, good gums!" Chen Jing actually had the mood to marvel in his heart, and didn't forget to correct his wording.

The dead infant suddenly raised its head. Its jaws, which originally had no sharp teeth, now had iron shavings and wooden splinters embedded in them after being chewed up, serving as sharp teeth.

It transformed into a swift, silver-black shadow and flew over. Chen Xin hurriedly ducked and crouched down, but the dead infant's body swept over his head and attacked him a second time.

Without hesitation, Chen Xin turned around and walked away, protecting his face with his hands and his stomach with his knees. He leaped up and immediately rushed out of the window behind him!

"Second floor..." Chen Xin murmured the words that brought him hope, then turned around in mid-air and grabbed the windowsill on the second floor with one hand.

Chen Xin dared not delay. He leaped over the wall and moved like a rabbit. A dark shadow pounced at almost the same time, as swift as a rabbit and as fast as a falcon, missing him by a hair's breadth!

"Chen Jing! It was you just now!" Chen Xin exclaimed inwardly. He involuntarily landed to dissipate the force, and in the blink of an eye, he shot out like an arrow again.

As he fled, two figures flashed past him.

"What is that?" Chen Xin dared not think about it too much, but the pain in his feet became unbearable, finally forcing him to slow down.

"It's alright, they're not chasing us," Chen Jing replied as if he had eyes in the back of his head.

Chen Xin looked back and saw that it was indeed so. He was overjoyed, but his spirits dissipated and the spasms brought on by the pain immediately spread to his bones.

What he saw was two scarlet eyes that hesitated and dared not leave the building.

and also……

The burly man in the suit glanced sideways without stopping.

The silver-haired woman, wearing hot pants, a ponytail, and only a tube top and a light jacket, turned around and gave Chen Xin a strange look. Her gaze was odd.

"He's practically a superman."

Clearly, she saw Chen Xin jump from the second floor, and the sight of Chen Xin running barefoot while wearing only thin underwear was too conspicuous.

The man in the suit said with a forced smile, "I think he's more like a madman. You know, there's often only a fine line between madness and genius."

"Wait, could he have been chased down by that thing?" The silver-haired woman noticed the scarlet eyeball hanging on the second floor. She turned around with alarm, revealing her delicate face and light makeup.

Chen Xin's heart tightened. He dared not show anything unusual and clutched his feet, howling in pain. He didn't know what was wrong with his ears; his hearing had suddenly become superhuman. The two people were already more than fifty meters away from him, and he could clearly hear their conversation and whispers.

"It won't attack unrelated people; its only target is that thing." Although the man in the suit denied it verbally, he also turned around to look.

"That's really strange." The silver-haired woman tossed her hair, not making a judgment immediately.

"The mission hasn't even started yet, it's just about capturing a mimic beast, why is there always trouble?" The man in the suit stared at Chen Xin's wailing figure not far away, barely managing to squeeze out a sound as his lips trembled.

"We've killed enough NPCs already, don't add any more obstacles to the mission," the silver-haired woman advised, but her gaze never left the strange figure.

"That's why I need you." The man in the suit adjusted his watch, a hint of impatience flashing in his narrowed eyes. He walked slowly toward Chen Xin, his mouth uttering cold, arrogant words: "True madness or feigned stupidity, better to kill the wrong person than let one go."

"But I refuse," the silver-haired woman said coldly, causing the man in the suit to pause in his steps.

"What...do you mean?" The man in the suit asked in a vacant voice, his gaze unfathomable.

"Why do I always have to clean up your messes?" The silver-haired woman raised her chin and stared disdainfully at the man in the suit.

The man in the suit wasn't annoyed. He stood there, his voice even softer: "So what do you want to do?"

Chen Xin clutched his bleeding foot, pressing his entire body to the ground. He listened to the horrifying conversation, trembling and sweating profusely.

He could endure the pain and continue running, but...

This would likely end the disagreement and suspicion between the two, and they would quickly launch a manhunt for him. How far could he escape with his bare feet?

"What should I do?"

"What should I do?!"

The feeling of having one's life disregarded, or even being controlled by the whims of others, pierced his very soul.

He could only hope that the silver-haired woman would fall out with that man.

But the will of Heaven often goes against human desires.

The things you least want to happen always seem inevitable.

"It's simple." The silver-haired woman turned around easily, looking at the dark second floor behind her: "Listen to what this little guy has to say."

"Get down!" She rubbed her throat, cleared her throat, and immediately gave the order in a cold voice.

The dead infant, covered in cracks, hesitated for a moment, but in the end, it obediently left the darkness and lay down beside the woman's shoe.

"Tell me, is that person your target?" The silver-haired woman's words carried a deeper meaning, which displeased the man in the suit standing beside her.

The tongueless dead infant cannot speak; it can only shake its head blankly.

Sensing something amiss with her companion, the silver-haired woman paused before asking, "Why were you chasing him?"

The stillborn infant looked increasingly bewildered; it simply couldn't express the answer to such a complex question.

"Speak!" The icy voice contained a strange, magical power. The stillborn infant, who was originally incapable of speech, was reprimanded in this way and actually uttered an unpleasant, hoarse sound:

"He...saw...me..."

"I see." The man in the suit said calmly.

The dead infant will not attack strangers, but it has been ordered not to be shown in public.

Perhaps that's why that strange, pitiful person was being hunted down.

The silver-haired woman pursed her lips helplessly: "You guys better be more careful next time, and don't make a mess of things for me again, or I won't take care of it anymore."

And what she meant by that...

The man in the suit smiled knowingly. He turned his head to the side, his indifferent gaze seemingly fixed on the trembling, vibrant heart hidden within Chen Xin's body.

Chen Xin froze. He looked into the other person's pupils, which were like those of a wolf or a kite, and immediately realized something.

Behind those eyes, there's a killer who shows absolutely no mercy.

The icy air greedily licked his body, constantly stealing his body heat, making him tremble and shudder under the pressure of death.

He looked up at the increasingly tall man in his field of vision, staring directly into those indifferent pupils filled with cold murderous intent, his body feeling as heavy as lead with fear.

The world seemed to freeze at that moment, perhaps reflecting his inner thoughts. He felt completely detached, wanting to escape to another world.

That place was a pure white and beautiful world, like a hospital, and he was wearing a hospital gown, covered with a thin blanket, sitting peacefully on the bed.

But soon, he began to ponder deeply, and then became restless.

The door to the closed room was knocked softly and then slowly opened.

The caregiver he knew walked out from behind the door.

But then he saw the woman with flowing silver hair and the man in a suit.

Those indifferent eyes, seemingly detached from life, acted as a medium bridging two worlds; they were slightly narrowed, glancing sideways, and deeply etched into his mind.

Last time, Gao Xiaonan witnessed his desperate escape early on and called the police to take him away in time.

He was also sent to this mental hospital for feigning mental instability and split personality.

This time, however, they were determined to catch up, and he was already in dire straits with nowhere to hide.

"Why are you forcing me!" Chen Xin roared inwardly, his eyes trembling and shrinking as he looked toward the door.

The man in the suit parted his lips slightly: "Mr. Chen, it's been a long time."

Chen Xin's soul trembled violently. Looking at the tiny outdoor space revealed outside the door that was blocked by the three people's bodies, he had a sudden inspiration. He took a step forward and knocked down the caregiver. He then pounced on a passing patient in the corridor like a madman.

He grabbed the other man's clothes, ripped off the manure bag from his body, crushed it in his palm, and then threw it in all directions.

The silver-haired woman retreated abruptly in disgust, while the man in the suit also frowned and temporarily stepped aside.

A terrifying attack with real damage swept through the entire corridor.

Chen Xin laughed wildly, splashing the excrement in his hand like a madman, causing chaos and confusion.

The patient at the center of the attack was named Mi Tiangong. Surprisingly, he was not alarmed but delighted by the attack. He couldn't wait to pull down his pants and ejaculate profusely.

Then he shouted excitedly, "My confidant! My confidant! Those people don't believe me! These are all my meritorious deeds, how can I put them in a toilet bag?"

"To have such a kindred spirit, what does death matter?!"

"Quickly distribute the merit to these foolish people, so that they may atone for their filthy sins!"

The tragedy immediately triggered alarm bells, and countless caregivers rushed to the scene to prevent the situation from escalating.

"Gentlemen, the patient has been agitated and cannot be visited at this time."

"What a pity," the man in the suit replied gently.

"He's gone completely mad, do we really have to go through the trouble of killing him?" The silver-haired woman kept sniffing her clothes, afraid that they might have even a trace of odor.

"Indeed insane." The man in the suit continued walking without stopping, a strange light gleaming in his eyes.

"But according to our investigation, he is a genius."

"The captain said that there absolutely cannot be any accidents."

The silver-haired woman hesitated, then the man in the suit comforted her:

"Don't worry, the captain has given strict orders that this will not happen again. You don't need to worry about your energy expenditure."

……

"My dear friend! My dear friend, you are so kind! So selfless! How could you give it all to those fools? You should have kept some for yourself!"

"Next time! We've made a promise! Next time we'll share it! Share it!"

The screams of Mi Tianfu being dragged away echoed in her ears. Chen Xin sat on the bed, hugging her knees, lost in thought for a long time.

His damp hair dripped water droplets as he sat quietly in a daze, having just been forced to take a bath by the caregiver.

Because of his outburst today, he has been placed in the low-risk intensive care unit, located on the basement floor.

Having finally escaped from there and become a safe patient, Mi Tian Gong was locked up again.

"So, have you made up your mind?" Chen Jing asked listlessly.

Seeing that Chen Xin remained silent, Chen Jing sighed and said sarcastically:

Do you still harbor unrealistic fantasies?

"Now that they've come, they won't let this go easily, which means you've aroused their suspicion."

"Where else do you think you can escape to? A high-risk area? Do you really think that will stop them from killing you? It might even encourage them, right?"

Chen Jing's voice abruptly stopped.

Chen Xin suddenly vomited, the vomiting sounding like it was being torn apart.

A short, silvery glint, covered in sticky saliva, fell from his throat.

Chen Jing chuckled and said, "I thought you were going to use it to commit suicide."
