Chapter 8 The Anti-Hunter: Observing the Enemy's Unpredictability
Chen Kingdom, Qing City, suburbs.
Xinxi Mental Rehabilitation Center.
Night clouds spread like a blanket, obscuring the sky.
The courtyard was shrouded in darkness, with only a few scattered lights casting their glow.
Eight large characters flashing red light stand prominently at the top of the building, serving as the most eye-catching light source in the entire rehabilitation center.
During the day, it is not particularly eye-catching.
But now, it's like blood flowing down, staining the entire complex.
Beneath the faint red glow, three dark figures silently approached.
The security guards on night duty at the gate are not like those in ordinary residential communities who just coast along; they are quite cautious.
For some reason, they ignored the three people in front of them who were clearly not staff members.
"Sister Wolf, why is this place so eerie? Could there be ghosts?" A disheveled man with glasses hunched over, rubbed his hands together, and nudged a silver-haired woman in the middle.
"Ghosts? You're afraid of ghosts?" The blond-haired man at the front looked back disdainfully.
"Who isn't afraid of ghosts?" the bespectacled man retorted, then quickly moved closer to the silver-haired woman.
"Wolf Kiss, look at this cowardly son of a bitch," the blond-haired man said indignantly.
The woman known as Wolf Kiss had a high ponytail, a tall and slender figure, and wore light clothing. Despite only light makeup, she possessed an extraordinary beauty.
She kicked the bespectacled man's shin with some disgust: "Get lost!"
The bespectacled man grabbed his leg and yelled, but was immediately covered in the mouth by the enraged blond man: "This place is guarded. If you want to deliberately expose yourself, get the hell out of here!"
The bespectacled man nodded hastily, shoving the muscular blond man aside, and muttered, "Do you think I wanted to come? Brother An wouldn't come himself, he insisted on making me. I don't understand why assassinating a native requires three people. Is it really necessary?"
"Even a lion uses its full strength to hunt a rabbit. That's always been the case with Brother An, overly cautious." Yellow Hair looked at Wolf Kiss's expression and patiently comforted him, "Besides, we haven't figured out the details of this world yet, but even just the descriptions are enough to prove the danger."
"With Sister Wolf around, what's there to be afraid of being exposed, or what danger could there be?" The bespectacled man touched his face nonchalantly.
"You! No matter how strong Wolf Sister is, she still has her limits. If your value is less than what we've given you, then we have no reason to accept you." The blond man scolded, not forgetting to glance at Wolf Kiss, who stood indifferently with his arms crossed to the side.
The bespectacled man chuckled sheepishly, dismissing the charade, but as he trailed at the back of the line, he still muttered under his breath:
"We're all just dogs, why risk our lives?"
"Shut up." Wolf Kiss suddenly spoke, his voice calm yet cold.
The bespectacled man froze, bumping into the back of the silver-haired woman in front of him. The rich fragrance lingered around his nose, but he had no time to smell it, because he wanted to open his mouth, but was powerless to do so.
"Wolf Sister used her power?" The bespectacled man was momentarily bewildered, then a hint of panic appeared in his eyes, and he quietly took a few steps back.
Wolf Kiss and the blond-haired man stood stiffly in place, without making a sound.
With his gaze shifting back, the bespectacled man was finally able to see what the two people in front of him were seeing.
Ahead was a corner between buildings, and on the slightly dilapidated brick wall were windows that were taller than a person.
A light was lit in the window, casting shadows on the curtains and allowing the three people to see what was inside.
It was a figure suspended high in the air, swaying slightly.
Whether it was the angle of the lighting or something else, the person's body proportions were extremely unusual, with their arms hanging down to their knees, making them look particularly eerie.
The most chilling thing was the faint groans that could still be heard from inside the room as the thin air flowed through the nasal cavity and trachea. The sound was like a musical movement, with a rhythm, making it impossible to tell whether the person groaning was relaxed and happy or in great pain.
"Heh...heh heh..." This eerie tone, combined with the cracking sound of bones popping from the slight twisting of the neck, was incredibly terrifying.
The dark figure seemed to want to turn its head back to see what color the people peeking at it from outside the curtain were.
Wolf Kiss gently raised his hand, grabbed the blond-haired man in front of him, and slowly backed away.
Until they turned the corner behind them, the unusual scene was no longer visible.
"What's going on?" the blond-haired man couldn't contain himself and whispered.
Wolf Kiss gently shook his head.
"Could this mental hospital... be a copy?" the blond-haired man continued to press.
Wolf Kiss continued to shake her head, it was unclear whether she meant denial or simply didn't know.
The blond-haired man, used to her taciturn nature, suddenly realized what was happening and turned around: "Where's Yang Mang?"
Upon looking at him, I immediately spotted the bespectacled man who had almost retreated to the front door.
Wolf Kiss also witnessed this scene and wrinkled his fair nose helplessly.
Seeing that he was safe and sound, Yang Mang secretly ran back.
"You're such a coward, you really live up to your name," the blond-haired man sneered.
Yang Mang chuckled instead of being scolded: "I wonder who it was that didn't dare to move when they saw that thing. You live up to your name, as immovable as a mountain. I admire you."
"You motherfucker! This is wisdom! Do you understand wisdom? Fighting with people at the drop of a hat, needlessly waging war, and recklessly wasting your life is a sign of stupidity." The blond-haired man's face flushed red as he hurriedly explained.
"Zhang Shan, you're right. It's wise of me to run away so quickly, but you just stood there dumbfounded. That's clearly stupid and stubborn." Yang Mang laughed even harder.
"You're talking nonsense!" Zhang Shan shouted angrily, about to unleash a torrent of curses.
"Alright." Wolf Kiss spoke in a chilling tone, and Zhang Shan fell silent, unable to utter a sound.
"What do you think?" Wolf Kiss glanced sideways at Yang Mang again.
Yang Mang chuckled obsequiously, bending over as he said, "In my opinion, whether it's a lunatic who enjoys suffocation or this mental hospital is truly haunted, we shouldn't pay any attention to it."
Wolf Kiss narrowed his eyes slightly, revealing a rare expression of admiration for a man.
Of course, it's also possible that her expectations of Yang Mang were simply too low.
"It's unwise to create unnecessary trouble." Wolf Kiss said, glancing warningly at Zhang Shan, who was gritting his teeth in dissatisfaction, before turning his head and walking straight towards the main building.
Yang Mang glanced at Zhang Shan smugly, making Zhang Shan's expression even more awkward. His entire face turned red, as if he were about to ripen.
However, no matter how angry he was, he dared not disobey the woman's orders.
Although he was considered a veteran of the team, he was also one of the earliest casualties.
In order to maximize the team's development and competitiveness, the captain adopted a strategy of first cultivating elites, who in turn benefited the team members. Most of the resources he obtained during the mission were lost to him during the redistribution.
Only after the other capable members of the team have become stronger can he be the one to strengthen the team.
Simply put, he's poor!
Wealth is a man's backbone.
If a man's back is weak, everything else is meaningless.
But that woman was different; she was recruited later, and the captain cared about her a lot.
Because she is indeed a talented person, and if that ability is used well, it can open up many convenient doors in the mission world, which is simply a ladder to wealth and advancement.
Lost in thought, the three of them entered the building that was shrouded in darkness.
At the front desk, a nurse on duty was resting her chin on her hand, one eye drowsy and the other focused on the scene playing on her tablet, leaving no room for her to keep watch.
The other nurse on duty simply fell fast asleep, burying her head in her arms and snoring softly.
Wolf Kiss and his two companions tiptoed in quietly, without using any abilities, and entered with great ease.
"Sister Wolf, do you know the way?" Yang Mang asked in a breathy voice.
Wolf Kiss, tall and slender, lowered her head slightly, looking disdainfully at the lewd man who had approached her. Though she didn't speak, Yang Mang understood her emotion: she was asking, "What do you think?"
"Sister Wolf is indeed amazing. She only came once during the day and has already figured out this hospital inside and out." Yang Mang smiled obsequiously, making Zhang Shan's teeth itch with envy.
Walking through the dark corridor, Yang Mang, whose heart was actually calm, looked around at the green notice boards, appearing quite nervous.
"What a huge cafeteria," Yang Mang exclaimed softly, then looked at Wolf Kiss, who had stopped in her tracks. "Wolf Sister, we were looking for that person, how did we end up here? Are you looking for a late-night snack?"
"You're so annoying," Wolf Kiss snapped impatiently, her eyes filled with disgust.
Zhang Shan stood aside gloatingly, while Yang Mang shrugged indifferently.
Wolf Kiss glanced around as if confirming something, then walked toward a glass door opposite the cafeteria.
"I heard from Brother An that the target was transferred to a low-risk ward underground for playing with poop. So you have to go through the cafeteria to get from the building to the underground?" Yang Mang nodded knowingly, following closely behind the woman in front of him.
"Playing with poop is one thing, but throwing poop at people is another. Is this only considered mild danger? How dangerous is severe danger? My barren brain cells can't think of anything more dangerous than this for the moment." Yang Mang chuckled to himself.
"Foolish luck brings happiness." Zhang Shan looked at the lewd figure in front of him and silently sneered in his heart.
"Bang!" Just as Wolf Kiss placed her slender fingers on the cold metal handle, the loud noise made all three of them turn around sharply, looking warily into the depths of the cafeteria hidden in the darkness.
The food trays were neatly prepared on the iron table, and behind the table, where black ink swirled, came a faint, grinding sound.
Wolf Kiss didn't open the door to hide; she just stood there, frozen in place, without making a sound. Yang Mang and the other man could only grit their teeth and keep staring at the source of the strange noise with her.
The atmosphere was extremely oppressive, and the silence gradually eroded the three people's reason. Their breathing became intertwined and mingled, forming a kind of synchronization in the chaos.
"Buzz..." A erratic electrical sound rang out at the right time, temporarily sweeping away the ongoing unease. It must have been from the kitchen that the bright yellow light began to shine out.
The light bulbs there flickered on and off as if they had a bad connection, but that didn't stop the three of them from getting goosebumps all over.
The flickering light cast a dark shadow on the wall—a person, a person standing upright in the kitchen.
"Bang!" Another loud noise shattered the mystery. All three of them witnessed the figure in the kitchen raise its arm, holding a long knife-like object, and smash it down on the ground.
"Is the chef at this hospital really that capable? Getting up at two in the morning to cook, haha." Yang Mang chuckled twice, trying to ease the tension.
But it was useless. Breaking the unknown not only failed to dispel fear, but also fueled its arrogance.
The dissipation of one layer of mist only led to the emergence of another, even deeper layer of mist.
"Bang!" Another loud noise rang out as the person in the kitchen began chopping and smashing the objects beneath him with a methodical, mechanical motion, like a cold, mechanical instrument.
"The sound of someone chopping a cleaver on a cutting board is louder than thunder." Wolf Kiss pushed the door open with his back and backed away step by step.
"Bang!!" The sound of chopping was deafening, as if the people in the kitchen were not chopping vegetables and bones, but smashing things to vent their anger.
"Crack..." With this louder sound than before, something shattered, and the bright yellow light was suddenly shrouded in a bloody halo.
"Damn it," Zhang Shan cursed under his breath. He could no longer contain himself and wanted to urge Wolf Kiss to escape from this dangerous place as soon as possible.
But when he turned around, he found that Wolf Kiss and Yang Mang had already passed through the corridor and were long gone.
Zhang Shan's heart skipped a beat. Then he heard an even louder noise, and the grinding of teeth grew louder and louder. He was jolted awake, as if he had suddenly witnessed something extremely terrifying. He hurriedly fled before the next loud noise arrived.
"Bang!!!" Even though no one was listening, the dull thud continued, and inside the kitchen, there was no monster devouring or cutting up human corpses.
However, although that scene did not occur, something even stranger happened here.
Five chefs and nine caregivers stood close together, obediently lined up in the direction of the light. With exaggerated, sinister smiles, they wielded their cleavers, striking the already battered and nearly shattered cutting board with such precision that it was impossible to tell the difference between the two.
Drops of saliva, dripping from his stiff expression, fell to the ground. With that sound, the on-duty doctor, who had his eyes closed as if still asleep, stepped onto a high stool, squeezed open a blood bag in his hand, and sprayed the blood onto the light bulb.
"Buzz..." The light bulb, which was already loose due to being deliberately not screwed on properly, was shaken by the jet of blood, emitting a groaning sound of electricity, and began to flicker on and off.
The final thud faded, and silence returned to the room. The dark figure, who had been huddled under the iron table, trembling and grinding its teeth, also stopped moving.
After a short while, the pale sclera revealed jet-black ink, and it opened its eyes, which had been tightly closed all along.
……
After passing through another long corridor and around another corner, we arrived at a closed iron door. The sign at the top of the door was no longer the ever-lit "Emergency Exit," but instead, it flashed red and read "Underground Restricted Area, High Danger, Entry Prohibited for Non-Staff."
"Wait for me!" Wolf Kiss and Yang Mang turned to the side and looked at the person behind them who had called out softly.
First came a series of hurried, frantic footsteps, followed by Zhang Shan rushing over.
Zhang Shan looked embarrassed, breaking out in a cold sweat, unable to hide his embarrassment.
"You scout ahead," Yang Mang snapped impatiently, the balance of power shifting.
Zhang Shan glared at him with some annoyance, about to retort, when Yang Mang interrupted, "You don't really think we're waiting for you on purpose, do you? Your abilities are just suitable for this job, and this is your chance to show your value. If your value is less than what we've given you, then we have no reason to accept you."
"You!" Upon hearing these familiar words, Zhang Shan immediately flew into a rage. The fear he had just experienced had completely transformed into anger, and he was about to unleash it.
"Hurry up." Wolf Kiss breathed out in a cold voice, extinguishing Zhang Shan's arrogance. He felt so suffocated that his blood rushed to his head, and his face turned red and hot.
However, he still walked forward sullenly, refusing to look at Yang Mang's smug and wicked smile.
Yang Mang watched with secret satisfaction as Zhang Shan had no choice but to move forward, and received a scolding from Wolf Kiss: "Keep up close."
"Okay, Sister Wolf." Yang Mang didn't take it to heart, enjoying the pleasure in his heart.
"Creak!!" As Zhang Shan approached, the two iron doors suddenly opened by themselves, startling Zhang Shan so much that his face turned pale. He retreated frantically while cursing, "Damn it!"
Just as his back was about to touch the wolf's kiss, Yang Mang kicked him, sending him staggering forward.
"Fool! Why are you yelling so loudly? That's a sensor door!" Yang Mang shouted sternly.
Ignoring the excruciating pain in his buttocks, Zhang Shan lay half-prone on the ground, staring blankly at the empty descending stairs behind the door. He blinked as if confirming, then blushed again: "Who designed this lousy door? Is it supposed to be a no-entry system, like the one you designed? You're Feng Fei! Designer!"
Seeing his head tilted up like a stray dog, Wolf Kiss questioned her existence. She forced herself to calm down and took a few breaths before stepping down.
Yang Mang followed eagerly without looking back, seemingly uninterested in mocking him, which only made Zhang Shan more frustrated.
Go down one floor, and there's another old, dilapidated sensor door, creaking and groaning, slowly opening.
"The mildly dangerous patient confinement area is correct. Only the severely dangerous patient confinement area below is locked. Designer Lao Feng is temporarily allowed to return." As Zhang Shan walked down, he saw Yang Mang returning from the lower level with a grin on his face.
Wolf Kiss nodded, then strode forward alone, with Zhang Shan quickly following, walking past Wolf Kiss in front.
On the basement level, three long corridors extend out to the left, right, and front. Based on the information gathered by "Brother An", the three of them learned that the ward where Chen Xin was being held was located in front.
A light bulb, spaced ten meters apart, emitted a faint white light, slightly dispelling the fog-like darkness and revealing the dim ceiling and the eroded edges of the sky.
The light, which could not even reach ten meters, or even three meters, made people notice the gaps in the light, and the deep darkness within them inspired contemplation.
Nothing is more frightening than oneself; such a situation is indeed extremely terrifying.
But Wolf's Kiss showed no sign of slowing down, and Zhang Shan, eager to prove himself, had no choice but to press on.
His blank expression as he continued to investigate only made him more and more panicked.
The white walls with green accents already created a somewhat oppressive atmosphere. Looking through the head-sized glass into the iron doors, one could see all sorts of strange and unsettling "patients."
There was a guy with a livid face, his entire face pressed against the glass, his eyes fixed on the three of them.
There was a thin child curled up in bed, constantly talking to himself.
There were deformed monsters lying on the ground, constantly tumbling, convulsing, and shaking.
There was a man licking the iron bed railings and occasionally biting the bed board.
The strangest thing was a woman who was somehow hanging upside down on the roof, her entire face hidden in her long hair, with only her head turning as they moved.
"What is all this stuff... You call this mildly dangerous?" Zhang Shan suppressed his urge to flee in panic, feeling a sense of unease.
"This is undoubtedly a copy; this hospital is completely abnormal," Yang Mang stated directly.
"What's wrong with the captain? How could he agree to let Brother An do this, bringing us so close to such a dangerous instance?" Zhang Shan, after hearing Yang Mang's words, temporarily forgot his past grievances in order to alleviate his fear and rubbed his arms as he replied.
Yang Mang glanced at him and said imperiously, "It's because of cowards like you that the captain has always kept his distance from these dungeons outside of missions."
"We're safe now, but our team's progress is far too slow. If this continues, we'll eventually fall behind the mission's difficulty; it'll just be a slow death!"
"Our team's captain can't stand our progress anymore. The rewards we get from just completing the main quest are not enough to support our growth. He's forcing the captain to initiate a reform to weed out the bad blood. So what if we suffer heavy losses? We can't build something new without destroying the old."
"But change cannot be drastic, otherwise the opposition will be just as fierce, and the internal strife will eventually break us down. So we need a sufficiently gentle buffer. This time, perhaps it is the prelude to the captain's gradual approach."
"Before we gain the ability to 'travel,' we can no longer actively contact the previous world, so we can only explore the present as much as possible. That's why I had you capture that mimic beast. Actually, it wasn't the one needed for the main storyline at all. The captain lied to us; it was actually the key to unlocking a side quest."
"It was a pleasant surprise, as it actually gave the captain a reason to come here and kill that native, thus involuntarily triggering the instance here and making the reform process smoother."
"What?!" Zhang Shan immediately exploded, staring at Yang Mang in disbelief. He demanded, "I've sacrificed so much for the team, the captain can't treat me like this! I haven't even received the reinforcements I deserve, this is tantamount to abandoning me! You're just spreading rumors, you're lying to me, aren't you?"
Yang Mang sneered and looked at Zhang Shan with pity: "Believe it or not."
Wolf Kiss watched the two of them coldly from beginning to end. She had tacitly approved of Yang Mang's remarks. As a newcomer to this team, she needed some support to bolster her voice and to secure more benefits for herself.
Although she disliked Yang Mang, he was indeed quite capable. Zhang Shan was even more despicable, but it was easy to win over someone who was bound to cause trouble for the captain. As a veteran and a sacrificed person, he was also qualified to be used as a pawn. Because of his incompetence, he could be used as a discarded piece, so why not?
At such a moment, as long as you express your willingness to take them in, they will eagerly grasp at this as their only lifeline, as if it were their only hope of survival.
She had already won over Yang Mang, a sleazy and easily manipulated fellow, with her beauty and a little bit of deliberate admiration. Subduing Zhang Shan would be even easier.
Wolf Kiss was thinking this to herself, feeling secretly pleased with herself, when suddenly a soft voice came from behind her, making her look over in confusion.
"That seems to be... the ward of that strange woman hanging upside down on the roof?" Wolf Kiss looked at the iron door that was clearly locked but suddenly opened, and alarm bells rang in his heart.
She stared intently for a while, but didn't see the woman come out.
But soon, more and more of the same faint sound began to ring out, echoing throughout the entire corridor.
Even the noisy Zhang Shanyang Mang noticed something was wrong and looked at the open iron gates.
The deathly silent corridor was made even darker by the dark green walls, and the three people, who could only hear each other breathing, unconsciously moved closer to each other.
Soon, a man in a hospital gown, lying on the ground, used his head to push open the door, his face sliding across the floor and getting covered in filth.
Wolf Kiss's pupils were fixed at first, then dilated violently.
The man turned his face to the side, revealing his bruised nose and torn face. His eyes were lifeless, and he was laughing hysterically.
"hehe……"
His laughter was like the command of a demon, and from all the wide-open doors came the sounds of clothes rustling and heavy footsteps.
"Ah!!!" A sharp female scream pierced everyone's eardrums. The thick iron door was almost smashed open. A woman climbing on the ceiling twisted her limbs frantically. Her scarlet eyes reflected iridescent light through the saliva she flung in the air, revealing her murderous intent without a doubt.
The man across the hall, his face covered in pus-filled acne, answered the freak's call and left his room, but was slammed against the wall by the iron gate as soon as he reached the middle of the corridor, his fate unknown.
Even more "patients" surged forth, completely blocking their path. The three men, Wolf Kiss and his companions, felt their hair stand on end, their minds filled with one word:
"run!"
Too many, far too many enemies, and more and more to come. Only a fool would do that.
A dense mass of heads, each bearing a terrifying expression, surged forth like a tidal wave. In desperation, Wolf Kiss glanced to his side and cried out, "Yang Mang!"
But there was clearly no one beside her. She was stunned for a moment, then suddenly turned around and saw Yang Mang had already run into the depths of the corridor and darted around a corner.
"Yang! Mang!" She gritted her teeth, her anger reaching a breaking point. Her abilities were indeed formidable, but without reliable teammates by her side, she couldn't withstand such a large number of madmen for the time being.
Just moments ago she was proud of how easily she had won over that man, but now she felt like a clown.
Just as she was caught off guard and unable to do anything, her wrist was suddenly grabbed by a man's hand, which was also covered in sweat but was hot and strong.
Just as she was about to say something, the man grabbed her and started running like crazy!
She looked at the blond-haired man in front of her and was momentarily moved, but she couldn't help feeling a little disgusted.
But she knew this wasn't the time to be sentimental, so she gave in to the other person's pulling.
Because she understood that although Zhang Shan had experienced three worlds, she had very few resources left, which meant she could not enhance some unique and strange abilities, and could only use them to amplify her own body.
Strengthening the physical body is both cheap and expensive: cheap because the threshold is very low, and expensive because it requires long-term investment to achieve significant results. Therefore, she did not waste resources on her body, and her physical fitness is only slightly better than that of an average person.
But the blond guy in front of me is a martial arts master who can punch people and a champion who can slap people in the arena!
His speed truly did not disappoint her; even with her as a burden, he quickly outpaced those crazy guys.
"Only the doors we went through at the beginning opened; the doors we used to escape through later didn't. If there are any more iron doors opening ahead to block our way, we'll be in trouble." While temporarily safe, Wolf Kiss couldn't help but feel a deep sense of unease: "Besides, those guys only seem to be slightly faster than ordinary people. Are they really ghosts?"
"Wolf Sister! Is this really just mild danger?" Zhang Shan's curse interrupted her thoughts. She looked at the panting man in front of her with a complicated expression.
But before she could say anything, her gaze fell upon the iron gate in front of her.
"It's 0233." Wolf Kiss's pupils narrowed slightly, her silvery irises radiating a bright light. She casually pressed her white fingers against the iron door and murmured, "0250 is that psychologist's room. It's very close to him here."
"Sister Wolf, isn't that it?" Zhang Shan pointed excitedly ahead.
Following his trembling fingers, whether from excitement, panic, or simply the lingering effects of his adrenaline, Wolf Kiss also saw the door marked "0250".
"We're so lucky!" Zhang Shan exclaimed, then looked at Wolf Kiss: "Quick! Sister Wolf, if we take him down, we can go back!"
Wolf Kiss's lingering doubts prevented her from acting immediately; she gazed into the depths of the corridor, her mind still wavering.
"Hurry up, Sister Wolf! I don't know how this place was built. The underground is like a maze, ridiculously big. I don't know how so many lunatics can live here. If we delay any longer, we really won't be able to leave!" Zhang Shan urged anxiously, but he did not ignore Wolf Kiss's hesitation and waited for her command.
"Yes, this place is abnormally large; it's definitely not an ordinary hospital. We need to hurry." Wolf Kiss gritted his teeth, suppressing his anxious emotions, and immediately made a decision: "Go!"
Decisions must not be made hesitantly; every second spent here could be accompanied by greater danger.
Who knows if all the doors will open at any moment? Maybe that freak's laughter is the force that rallies them; they have to kill Chen Xin before it arrives.
"Yes, that's it..."
Wolf Kiss, in a frantic rush, swung his long legs and uttered in a chilling voice, "Open the door!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the heavy iron door suddenly trembled violently, and then let out a mournful sound as its lock was twisted by some inexplicable force.
Wolf Kiss pushed open the iron door and saw the dark interior, the simple room, and Chen Xin sleeping soundly on the lonely white bed!
Chen Xin was wrapped in a large white blanket, her back to the door, emitting soft snores, completely unaware of the murderous intent behind her.
With her target right in front of her, Wolf Kiss's vigilance reached its peak. Instead of approaching immediately, she looked back at the path she had come from.
"Sister Wolf! Hurry! They're catching up!" Zhang Shan shouted at the top of his lungs.
Wolf Kiss saw that Zhang Shan was being entangled by several patients who moved like zombies in a movie. He struggled and had just broken free, but the danger was still there.
His clothes were torn to shreds, and his flesh was scraped apart by those monstrous claws, leaving behind bloody wounds that were horrifying to behold.
The wolf kiss didn't make her blood boil; she simply calmed herself down, touched her throat, and slowly walked to Chen Xin's bedside.
Her disheveled hair was different from when they first met, but the delicate profile partially revealed in front of her eyes felt strangely familiar.
But she was still not sure, and a lingering doubt remained in her heart. As if possessed, she reached out her hand, wanting to see his true face.
She had to conserve every bit of her strength so that she could definitely escape.
Ange's advice convinced her of the psychologist's competence, but she needed to conserve her energy and buy time. The urgency left her no time to dispel her anxiety, so she had to be fully vigilant and do everything herself.
The instant her icy fingers touched Chen Xin's face, she felt a blur before her eyes, and Chen Xin, who had just been lying on her side on the bed, was now half-lying and half-sitting on the white bed stained with blood.
Even in the darkness, the blood on the white bed was too glaring.
Wait a minute? Blood? Whose blood is that?
Thoughts act faster than nerves, and only now did she realize that the frail psychologist, who had half-sat up, had actually punched her in the chin.
"No, I'm just a normal person. Even if he's weak, he's still an adult male. Why didn't I even flinch when he punched me?" Wolf Kiss felt a sense of unease. Considering the situation she had never imagined before, she tried to back away, but she couldn't control her body.
"I originally just wanted to kill some nobody, but I didn't expect that you, the most troublesome one I planned to deal with, would come to my door on your own." Chen Xin spoke, his tone flat, but only his eyes, hidden in the darkness, revealed his undisguised sarcasm and disappointment.
"You!" Wolf Kiss tried to speak, but found herself speechless.
A burning pain shot through her lower jaw, and at the same time, she realized she had a foreign object in her mouth.
The terrifying pain shot straight into her mind and surged into her heart, making her feel as if the world had suddenly turned upside down.
The fist pressing against her chin clearly held a small, exquisite scalpel!
Boiling blood splattered all over Chen Xin's body and the bed, from the wounds exposed by her haphazard movements.
"I'm going to die? No, it's just a fatal wound!" Wolf Kiss was shocked as he remembered his trump card.
She was conserving her strength precisely so that she wouldn't fall to the point where she couldn't reveal this trump card!
"As long as there's a forced opportunity to speak..."
Wolf Kiss thought this way, her eyes filled with hope, and reality responded to her expectations.
"Sister Wolf!" Zhang Shan rushed over, shirtless and covered in wounds. He arrived at the door and witnessed this horrifying scene.
"Just in time, save me!" Wolf Kiss screamed inwardly, only to see Zhang Shan seemingly dumbfounded, standing there in disbelief at the scene.
"Damn it, this good-for-nothing doesn't know I once cast a spell on myself, so even if I lose my tongue and vocal cords, I can force myself to speak and give orders to heal my injuries when I'm on the verge of death! He must think I'm going to die!" Wolf Kiss's heart sank to the bottom again. She could only pray that the psychologist in front of her wasn't so perceptive and ruthless, and would give her this chance.
Just when she was becoming increasingly desperate, new hope arrived once again.
A burst of light suddenly appeared in the room, as if lightning had struck. Blood was already flowing from the throat and the knife-wielding arm of the smug psychiatrist in front of them!
A color that was out of place yet blended perfectly with the environment leaped out from the shadows, moved swiftly with the light and color, picked up her body and retreated wildly to the door.
"It's him! Sure enough, Brother An was cautious; there was someone else hiding in the shadows following me!" Wolf Kiss was overjoyed; she knew she was saved!
The psychologist's arm was cleanly severed along the wound. Although the wound on his throat was not deep, it had damaged an artery, and he was not far from death.
The shadowy figure revealed itself to be a short man draped in a black coat. He was completely wrapped in specially made clothing, and his face was covered with black bandages, with only his eyes showing.
He crouched low, gripping a long, gleaming sword in his backhand, maintaining absolute vigilance even as his enemy was severely wounded.
But the psychologist's expression remained calm. He composed himself, slowing the flow of blood from the gaping wound on his neck, and spoke approvingly:
"Heh heh... It seems... heh heh... my overestimation of you guys beforehand wasn't a mistake... heh..."
An Ning's voice was mixed with blood, and his trachea was blocked by blood flow, but he remained calm and unhurried, enduring without coughing once. Anyone who saw this scene would be uneasy.
"Stop pretending, Chen Xin. We underestimated you. We didn't expect there to be such a hero among the natives. You managed to outmaneuver us, but you're doomed now." The short man in black spoke in a childish voice. His tone sounded confident, but his response revealed his unease.
"Heh..." The psychiatrist raised his head, ignoring the gushing blood, and gave a contemptuous smile:
"I never said I was Chen Xin."
"What?" Upon hearing this, the man in black immediately became alert. His instincts caused his pupils to contract sharply. He was about to leap up with the limp woman in his arms and quickly move to another position, but it was too late!
His shoulder was gripped by a powerful force, while a bone-chilling ice spike pierced his temple with pinpoint accuracy, plunging deep into his skull.
His eyes suddenly lost their color. Before his consciousness completely dissipated, he saw a young man with messy black hair and a slightly upturned mouth standing where he thought Zhang Shan was standing!
"What? Maybe..." His last words went unheard, and then he fell into a deathly silence.
One fatal blow!
Chen Xin watched the man in black about to collapse on top of her without moving, and didn't forget to stir the man's sea of knowledge with the ice pick in her hand.
The man in black shuddered reflexively, and was eventually tossed to the ground by Chen Xin like a tattered garbage bag.
Brain matter splattered out, splattering a wolfish kiss all over her face. She fell down as well, her face filled with fear, hope and despair alternating and intertwining. The ups and downs left her with no will to resist. She looked at the man who could control her life and death with pitiful eyes.
Chen Xin carefully and with disgust avoided the area where blood and brain tissue were flowing, then casually put on the non-woven gloves that had been prepared beforehand, bent down and gently pulled out the scalpel that had been inserted into her mouth.
He deliberately pulled out in a roundabout way, causing her pain to contort her face, and blood entered her trachea, gradually suffocating her.
The blood loss to her brain left her delirious, rendering her completely powerless to struggle and lose all ability to resist. Yet, she still instinctively put on a fawning smile, even though she couldn't see how ugly and grotesque her smile was at that moment.
Chen Xin looked at the scene and smiled as usual, filling his face with Wolf Kiss's gaze.
"What beautiful eyes. Do people like you have any special body parts? Like your tongue? I'm really looking forward to it." He uttered cruel words with a chilling tone, so cold that Wolf Kiss trembled uncontrollably.
"But I don't need your brain. I'm very disappointed in you now. Are you all such idiots?" Chen Xin gently used the sharp blade to pry open Wolf Kiss's lips, pry open her clenched teeth, and pressed it against her fragile soft palate.
"Precision is the difference between slaughter and surgery," he murmured, wiping away a streak of blood that had somehow appeared on his right cheek with one hand, while gently pushing the tip of the knife out with the other.
Wolf Kiss's body stopped trembling.
The last thing she saw in her eyes was that man's clear yet deep pupils.
The passing of life is neither solemn nor heavy; it is so easy.
The hyenas, omnipresent in nature, were already starving and began to frantically plunder her stored body heat.
