Chapter 12 Peace Talks? Peace Talks my ass!
Betty looked around nervously, feeling like she was going crazy.
In her eyes, everyone around her was a monster!
Winged creatures are nothing compared to those with three legs and five arms—they're downright terrifying.
Has she wandered into a nuclear radiation zone? I've never heard of any secret experimental bases here.
If she stays here, will she end up like that too? No way!
"Betty, are you alright?"
Betty turned her head sharply and looked in the direction of the sound. She saw Banner standing not far away, his eyes filled with concern and confusion.
"Banner, please take me away from here, please get me away from here. Just the two of us, somewhere else?"
Betty's voice trembled as she looked at Banner with pleading eyes. She didn't want to stay in this godforsaken place for another second.
To her disappointment and even despair, Banner simply shook his head slightly in response to her request.
"Why, why?"
A look of confusion and despair flashed in Betty's eyes. She almost burst into tears, but she held back her tears, hoping to get a reasonable explanation from Banner.
"Why can't we leave? It's too dangerous here, I...I'm scared."
"Betty, you haven't heard the gospel of God yet, you can't leave."
Banner said softly, his tone leaving no room for doubt. Betty had never seen Banner like this before, not only physically, but also in terms of personality.
"God? What god?"
Betty was stunned. Her eyes widened as if she had heard the most incredible words in the world.
In her mind, none of this had anything to do with "God," and she only felt endless fear and unease.
"Banner, what are you talking about? This is clearly a terrifying place, what does it have to do with God?"
Betty's voice was filled with confusion and bewilderment; she couldn't understand why Banner would suddenly mention God.
"Betty, it seems I need to take some time to tell you about the great deeds of our Blood God. He saved me from being a lost sheep, and I will serve Him forever."
A strange light shone in Banner's eyes, a kind of piety and fanaticism that Betty had never seen before.
He approached slowly, his tone carrying an undeniable power, as if every word carried some sacred mission.
"Betty, do you know? This world is far more complex and profound than we imagine. The Blood God is the beacon for us wanderers in the darkness. He gave us a chance to be reborn and helped us find our way in despair."
Banner's voice was deep and magnetic, and every word struck Betty's heart.
Betty listened in shock, unable to comprehend why Banner would so firmly believe in a god she had never heard of.
She wanted to argue, to tell Banner that it was all absurd, but looking into Banner's determined eyes, she suddenly felt powerless.
"But... Banner, everything here, these monsters, and why are we here? How do you explain all this?"
Betty's voice was weak; she was trying to find a glimmer of reason.
"Those are warriors blessed by a great god. Do you see their immense power? If you are willing to believe in the Blood God, you too can become as powerful as them."
Betty was stunned; she couldn't believe such an absurd explanation.
But she also realized that Banner was no longer the Banner she knew; he had been deeply influenced and even changed by some force.
"Banner, I...I don't know what you're talking about, but all I know is that it's too dangerous here, we have to leave."
Betty's voice held a hint of urgency; she wanted to pull Banner back to his senses and bring him to his senses.
Just as Banner opened his mouth, about to reveal a smile, Bronsky walked over.
"Boss, the military has sent another envoy."
"Oh, where is it?"
Banner's attention instantly shifted from Betty to Bronsky, only to see the latter give a wicked smile.
"It was at the entrance of the camp before, and it's still at the entrance of the camp now."
Banner frowned upon hearing this, clearly displeased with Bronsky's teasing.
Just as he was about to say something, Bronsky spoke again.
"They used to be standing at the entrance of the camp, but now their whole bodies are embedded in the ground. I'm sure there will be a good harvest here next year."
"Boss, you have no idea how soothing it is to hear their dying cries!"
Bronsky closed his eyes, as if he were truly immersed in a beautiful piece of music.
Banner frowned: "Blonsky, you should have reported to me before you killed him."
"Boss, you're going to kill him anyway after I report to you, so why bother?"
"Then you have to report to me first before you kill!"
Banner's tone was noticeably stern; he was displeased with Bronsky's unauthorized actions.
Bronsky shrugged. "Got it, boss. There won't be a next time."
Seeing that he said that, Banner didn't care anymore.
Anyway, they'll be killed sooner or later.
Banner didn't care, but Betty was terrified.
"You...you actually killed the military's special envoy?"
Betty's voice trembled, and her eyes were filled with fear and disbelief.
"Kill me if you want. You've seen it before. The special envoy who just brought you here, wasn't he also from the military? Didn't we just twist his head off right in front of you?"
Bronsky shrugged indifferently, finding it amusing that this woman still hadn't grasped reality.
Betty took a few steps back in horror, her worldview completely collapsing at that moment. She had never imagined she would be involved in such a crazy and bloody situation, especially seeing Banner's nonchalant attitude, which only fueled her fear.
"Banner, you...you're not planning to go to war with the military, are you?"
"That's right, we're going to war with the military! Those sons of bitches will become our sacrifices to the great Blood God!"
Before Banner could speak, Bronsky preemptively answered Betty, but she ignored him, her gaze still fixed intently on Banner.
She prayed for a negative answer from her lover, but the moment Banner shook his head slightly, Betty's heart sank to the bottom, her eyes filled with despair.
"Why, why did you do this?"
"I did this to fulfill a great mission! I'm fighting with honor!"
Looking at his stunned former lover, Banner felt a pang of pain in his heart.
"Whether you understand it or not, everyone here, including Bronsky, has been inspired by this faith. We no longer live just for ourselves, but for the great Blood God—a great cause worth fighting for our entire lives!"
