Apocalyptic Hoarding Diary
Chapter 327 Leaving the Dungeon
"Master," she turned to look at the sweating man, wanting to say something to thank him, but the words seemed too weak. "I really don't know how to thank you."
The master waved his hand, his smile looking a little tired, but very sincere.
"No need to thank me, you give me the wine and I do the work, it's a fair trade." He paused, then added:
"Be careful on the road. I've made this car very sturdy for you, but even the sturdiest car can't withstand reckless driving. If anything happens, stay calm."
"Master, I'm planning to leave with the army this time. You should also make preparations as soon as possible. If you can leave, then leave. I dare not stay in the dungeon without the army running."
After saying that, she ignored the mechanic's surprised look, opened the car door, got in, and started the engine.
The engine roared to life, its sound a bit deeper than before, probably because the added steel plates had made it heavier. She shifted gears, released the clutch, and pressed the accelerator, and the car slowly drove out of the repair shop.
At 5:40 a.m., there weren't many people walking in the passageway. Xu Xiaoyan stepped on the gas pedal and the small truck sped through the empty passageway.
The modified car feels different to drive. The steering wheel is a bit heavier than before, but it's very stable, with significantly improved grip, and it doesn't drift at all when cornering.
She held the steering wheel with one hand and took out her phone with the other, opening a map app.
Parking lot number 12 in the East District is about a ten-minute drive from her current repair shop; if she drives fast, it might only take seven minutes.
The posts on the forum say that there are still cars moving over there, and hopefully we can catch up.
The car turned a corner and entered a wider lane. The streetlights were brighter than before. After driving for another three minutes, other vehicles began to appear on the road.
At first, there were only one or two cars, heading east like hers, but then more and more came, one after another.
Some were cars, some were food trucks, some were trucks, and some were modified SUVs; all the vehicles were driving in the same direction.
Xu Xiaoyan understood; these people, like her, had chosen to set off overnight after receiving the news.
More and more cars are on the road, from a few scattered ones to groups of three or five, and then from groups of three or five to a dense crowd.
After driving for about five more minutes, she saw the gate in the distance, but her car couldn't get through.
Because of traffic jam.
Cars were packed tightly together on the road, and from her position, all she could see were car rear ends and red taillights.
Some cars even tried to squeeze to the side, trying to find a gap to pass through, but it was no use. The passage was only so wide that it was difficult to even ride a bicycle, let alone drive a car.
Xu Xiaoyan parked her car and waited for five minutes, but the car in front of her didn't move an inch.
Occasionally, one or two cars would honk their horns, the sharp sound particularly jarring in the quiet early morning, but it was useless; the cars in front wouldn't move, and the cars behind could only stare helplessly.
No, she couldn't just wait like this. She pushed open the car door, jumped out, and walked forward, passing one stopped car after another, trying to see what was going on ahead.
The drivers on the roadside also got out and stood in twos and threes next to their cars. Some were smoking, some were cursing, and some were craning their necks to look ahead, but they couldn't see anything.
Xu Xiaoyan walked over to a van and asked the middle-aged man leaning against the door smoking, "Sir, what's going on up ahead?"
The man exhaled a puff of smoke and shook his head. "I don't know, it's completely blocked, it won't budge."
She walked a few more steps and asked a young man driving a small truck, "Hey buddy, do you know what happened up ahead?"
The young man was squatting on the ground playing on his phone, not even looking up. "I don't know, I've been stuck in traffic for almost twenty minutes, it's so annoying."
Hearing that the traffic jam had lasted for so long, Xu Xiaoyan's heart sank.
She continued walking, asking several drivers along the way, but the answers were all similar: she didn't know, she wasn't sure, and she was getting annoyed.
They anxiously craned their necks forward, but could see nothing but more car rear ends.
As we were walking, we suddenly heard a noise ahead.
It was a black SUV, and a man was climbing onto the roof. He stepped on the tires, clung to the roof rack, and quickly climbed up, standing on the roof and looking ahead.
The man was in his thirties, wearing a dark jacket, with a buzz cut, and looked like he had a short temper. He stood on the roof of the car, his hand on his forehead, squinting as he looked ahead.
Several drivers around him looked up at him, waiting for him to speak.
Xu Xiaoyan also stopped and stared at the man's face.
A few seconds later, the man's face suddenly changed. His previous annoyance turned into anger. His brows furrowed, and his teeth gritted. He abruptly lowered his head and roared at the crowd below:
"There's been a car crash up ahead! Two cars collided! Two idiots are hurling insults at each other!" His voice was loud and carried far in the quiet of the early morning.
"A car crash?" someone shouted. "Was it badly damaged?"
"It's nothing!" the man yelled. "It was just a minor scrape! Those two idiots didn't get out and move their car, they just stood there yelling at each other! Couldn't they have used that energy to drive more? They're really damn idiots!"
He grew angrier and angrier as he spoke, and the last few words were almost roared out.
Then he jumped off the roof of the car, landed on the ground with a thud, and strode forward.
"I'm going to fucking check it out!"
Several drivers nearby looked at each other, and one of them muttered, "I'll go too," and followed along.
Before long, a small group of seven or eight people formed and headed towards the scene of the accident.
Xu Xiaoyan stood there, watching the group of people disappear into the gap between the cars.
It wouldn't have mattered if she hadn't gone with them; she can't fix cars, and she can't mediate disputes.
Besides, it must be a complete mess over there. What would a young woman like her do if she squeezed in?
But she couldn't just wait idly, so she glanced at her phone—5:58.
Xu Xiaoyan sighed, turned around and walked back to her small truck, where she got back into the driver's seat.
As soon as the car door closed, some of the noise outside was cut off. She leaned back in her seat, looking at the red taillights ahead, feeling an indescribable sense of irritation.
She glanced at the rearview mirror and saw a long line of cars behind her, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Some drivers got out of their cars and stood in twos and threes. Some of them were even laughing. It takes a lot of nerve to laugh at a time like this.
She glanced ahead again.
The group that went to "take a look" hadn't returned yet, but they could faintly hear commotion coming from ahead.
Someone was shouting something, but I couldn't hear clearly. It was probably the SUV driver who had arrived at the scene and was throwing a tantrum.
About twenty minutes later, just as she was about to lose patience, a commotion arose ahead.
The group of people who went to join the fun ran back, led by the same SUV driver. He was the fastest, waving at his car as he ran, his anger now replaced by excitement.
