Chapter 12 System Tasks

"Sir, can you do us a favor?"

Su Wu raised his eyelids, which had been drooping due to boredom, and looked at the children in front of him who were seeking his help with a somewhat uninterested expression.

They're fairly good-looking and have decent personal hygiene; they're the kind of kids that would be praised as cute by outsiders.

At this moment, these "cute" children are looking at him expectantly with their different colored eyes.

If I remember correctly, he wasn't particularly close to these children, was he? If he wanted help, why didn't he ask another priest? There are so many priests here.

"Because Tara has gone missing, we want your help..." One of the children looked a little awkward, as if he was in a strangely humble position because he had put himself in the position of the one asking for help.

Or perhaps it's a common phenomenon that all the children in District 12 are very obedient in front of church members.

Perhaps the same thing will happen if it spreads throughout Meteor City?

"Why not find someone else?" Su Wu rested her chin on her hand, her tone still lazy and listless.

"Because the West Germans are all very busy, there's no need to waste their time on this kind of thing..." the children said hesitantly.

The priests in District 12 are already having a hard time taking care of them, so if they were to ask everyone to find their companions who have already gone to District 13, they would definitely be refused.

"Do I look like I have a lot of free time?" Su Wu retorted.

He reflected on why he made the other kids think he was idle.

Because the other priests were either responsible for training the children or picking up trash.

Is he the only one who doesn't take care of his children or pick up trash every day, but instead spends all his time "playing" with West Germany?

How can training be considered playing around?

Su Wu ended her reflection and concluded that she didn't need to reflect on anything at all.

"...No, it's just...it's just that you're about the same age as us, Lord Hill, and you were able to join the church, so you must be very strong, so...so..." The child's tone became increasingly anxious, as if he knew his request would definitely be rejected.

Su Wu, with her sharp eyes, spotted Pampas and Sid walking out of the church, and promptly raised her hand, "Hey, Sid, Pampas."

He beckoned the two of them over.

Sid listened to what Pampas said, after all, he knew he wasn't as smart as Pampas, and most of the time, Pampas represented the correct answer.

The two walked out of the church together, and as soon as they stepped out, they heard a boy calling their names from not far away.

West Germany and Pampas simultaneously turned their toes in the opposite direction and walked toward the person waving.

"What is it?" Sid looked somewhat serious when he wasn't smiling.

"What's wrong?" Pampas asked with a kind and patient smile.

"They have something to say," Su Wu said, pointing casually to a few children nearby.

Sid and Pampas followed the direction of his finger and their gazes finally landed on the children.

"Is there something you want to say?" Pampas asked first.

Even though he was very approachable, the children still looked a little nervous.

"It's...it's Tara. Tara is missing. We were supposed to play together today. She said she would wait for us at the entrance of District 13..." a little boy said nervously.

"Tara?" Sid was taken aback. "She's gone?"

Pampas remained silent, watching as Sid pressed the child for answers.

"And...Ang, Isaac, Gremi...everyone is gone." A little girl's voice was trembling with tears.

"Isaac?" Upon hearing the somewhat familiar name, Pampas's gentle expression finally showed a slight change.

Su Wu yawned casually to the side.

It's not unusual for a few kids to go missing in Meteor City. After all, there's a Vulture Gang that preys on people; maybe the kids were targeted and kidnapped by them.

Although the 12th ward has about 10,000 to 20,000 children under the age of eight, the 13th ward still has quite a few children over the age of eight.

Even outside, human traffickers exist, but in Meteor City, this phenomenon is certainly even more common.

He had no intention of helping at all, so he simply called over Sid and Pampas and pushed the matter onto the two of them.

"I understand, we'll look for them." Pampas reassured the children and watched them leave.

Seeing the children return to the group and be watched over by the other priests who were in charge of their training, Pampas's smile became less warm and friendly.

He dropped his pretense in front of the children, and the smile on his face only made people wonder what he was up to.

"The number of missing children in District 13 has increased recently; more than 200 have gone missing in just six months."

"And no matter how much we investigate, we can't find the reason. The gatekeeper never saw the children leave on their own; it's like they vanished into thin air. Isn't that strange?"

"Sid, do you remember the number of children who went missing in District 13 when District 12 was first established?" The blond man began to recall the past in a strange way.

"I don't remember," Sid shook his head.

"Twenty-nine people. The number of missing children that year was 29," Pampas said, stating the data from that year with ease.

"The number of missing persons was 32 in the second year, 5 in the third year, 3 in the fourth year, and 0 in the fifth year..."

"Of course, this data does not include those who died from illness, or children who died from other causes but whose bodies could be found."

"It only refers to children who are neither found alive nor dead."

"The number of missing children last year was 182."

"And the number of missing children this year is 357." Pampas's calm tone seemed to conceal something deeper.

In the early years when there were only a handful of members, a certain group in Meteor City had just been established and had accomplished a lot.

These figures, which have been increasing year by year, reveal the increasingly arrogant mentality of those behind the scenes.

"This data..." Su Wu propped her chin up and openly eavesdropped from the side.

It doesn't sound like much, and compared to some places in the real world, it's even considered a small amount.

In comparison, Meteor City's environment actually seems less dangerous, and the public security seems to have improved.

"Isaac's training results are usually very good. After leaving District 12, I remember he was doing some garbage sorting work for the church in District 13, right? He was also the captain of one of the cleaning teams..." Pampas seemed to know Isaac very well, even knowing what he was doing after leaving District 12.

"You know, District 13 isn't under our jurisdiction," Sid said, scratching his head.

The 12th district is responsible for patrolling, picking up and taking care of children. Of course, they also occasionally have to send some people to clean up the garbage.

But most of the time, District 13 was managed by another person.

Farouk Zapata, one of the elders of the Meteor City Elders' Council.

"Hill, want to play a game?" Pampas's thoughts stirred slightly as he looked at the boy beside him, who seemed to be thoroughly bored.

[Daily Side Quest - Investigate the missing child. You will receive a reward upon completion.]

The system's prompt made Su Wu open her listless, half-closed eyes.

This is the first side quest he's ever received; it's starting to feel more like a simulation adventure game.

Su Wu blinked, a mischievous yet enthusiastic smile spreading across her face.

"Okay," he replied cheerfully.

It's a good opportunity to test my training results.
