Chapter 12: A Journey Through the Zombie Village

"And what about you?" Harry looked Bai Lin up and down and said, "Are you training in this outfit? I don't see you brought any luggage."

Bai Lin snapped his fingers and donned a tight-fitting hunting outfit, looking dashing and heroic. This was a convenient feature included with the encyclopedia; a small storage space that could only hold a few clothes at the moment, but it made changing clothes quite quick.

These days, people can turn into cats or dogs, but the practical skill of changing clothes is quite novel (obviously there is no such magic yet, otherwise all the clothing stores would be out of business). However, Harry was just envious, thinking that Bai Lin had cast a high-end silent spell.

After dinner, Harry brought out his wand and a small cloth bag. Bai Lin knew that it was one of the three most powerful items in the Harry Potter world, but in his hands it was probably just a mission item that he couldn't use.

The two walked straight into Diagon Alley, wandering around for a while. They passed Flourish and Blotts, where Harry hadn't had time to buy a book yet, and Ollivanders Wand Shop, which has a history of nearly four hundred years of "wand making." Finally, they came to a very secluded store. Unlike the bustling other shops, this place was almost deserted. There were only a few chairs and a fireplace in the store, and a bald old man of about fifty years old was snoring listlessly on the counter.

Harry looked up and saw a sign above the shop that read, "59 Diagon Alley, Horror Tours."

Harry remembered being handed flyers from this company when he visited Diagon Alley before. They were covered in pictures of ghosts, werewolves, vampires, zombies, and their classic "GG" phrase:

Want to rent a vampire castle in Transylvania? Want to follow the trail of zombies? Face-to-face with the undead? Want to cruise through the Bermuda Triangle? Come to Horror Journey Travel Company, we'll make your nightmares come true!

P.S.: The travel company assumes no responsibility for any accidental death or injury.

Harry didn't know if their "GG" was meant to attract customers or to drive people away.

Bai Lin took out ten Galleons and placed them on the bald wizard's counter, instantly waking the wizard. He grabbed the coins in his hand.

"At your service, esteemed gentlemen, I am your travel consultant, Robert Oakes," the bald wizard said with a beaming smile as he stepped forward from behind the counter.

Bai Lin pulled a flyer from his pocket, pointed to the image of a zombie inside, and said, "No matter where you send us, make sure there are plenty of zombies!"

Robert glanced at Bai Lin's attire, rummaged through the counter, and pulled out a contract, saying, "Do you need to sign a contract? Ten Galleons are enough for your two-day trip. Add one Galleon and you'll get a Witcher's Gift Pack. Add five Galleons and I can help you recruit an experienced Witcher Wizard..." His eloquence made Bai Lin and Harry think that Stan, the bus ticket seller, had possessed him.

Bai Lin thought for a moment, and he was also quite curious about what the exorcism gift pack was. So another Gallon popped out, which Robert caught. He took out a package from the counter and handed it to Bai Lin. Bai Lin looked inside and saw that there were only three things: a high-powered magic torch (to prevent wizards from casting other spells with their wands while using the glowing spell for illumination; simply put, it was a flashlight), a magic rope that could automatically bind prey, and a smoke dust for escaping.

Come on, it's just one Galon. Do you expect him to give you free equipment?

Seeing that Bai Lin wasn't planning to sign the contract (which, frankly, wasn't very binding anyway, consisting mostly of disclaimers), Robert invited Bai Lin and Bai Lin inside, closed the shop door, and then began casting a spell in front of the fireplace. He recited a long string of strange incantations that Bai Lin couldn't understand at all. Then Robert pointed his wand at the fireplace, and a roaring green flame burst into flames. Afterward, he sprinkled some Floo Powder.

Robert said, "Three days from now, uh, at eight o'clock in the morning, I will open the passage at the same spot. You must be back on time!"

Although it was Bai Lin's first time using Floo Powder as a teleportation method, he felt that he couldn't break his persona and had to pretend to be an expert. Without saying a word, he jumped in.

Harry had an unsuccessful Floo Powder teleportation attempt during his second year. He was teleported to Upside Down Alley because he misread the destination name. But as one of the best in Gryffindor, he was terrified, but he gritted his teeth and followed Bai Lin into the alley.

After a period of turmoil, Bai Lin felt a little suffocated. A short while later, he emerged from a ball of flames. Looking around, he found himself on a grassland. A very primitive magic circle had been formed on the ground with large stones, and a bonfire had been lit in the center of the circle with branches. There was also a dilapidated signpost standing not far away.

Bai Lin straightened his clothes. He thought he would have to wait for Harry, since Harry had only used teleportation for the first time in the Goblet of Fire (back then it was the Portkey), and he should still be a little scared. But as soon as he regained his balance, Harry jumped out of the campfire. Bai Lin quickly helped him up and saw that he was pale and panting heavily.

"It's alright, you'll get used to it after a few more times," Bai Lin comforted her. "Apparition is an advanced spell, and it's subject to the regulations of the Magic Transportation Department. Very few underage children have ever experienced it."

Harry's expression softened somewhat. "Mr. Kelling," he asked, "where are we?"

Bai Lin pointed to the sign ahead and said, "Take a look at what it says."

The sign clearly states:

[Zombie Village - 1 mile ahead]

[A barrier has been placed within a five-mile radius of this area. Do not attempt to cross it; you will be responsible for any consequences.]

[Please do not attempt to determine the geographical location; all location information is the intellectual property of Terror Journey Travel Company.]

Well, this is the haunted house, or rather, the replica, produced by Horror Tour Company.

Harry looked in the direction where there seemed to be buildings and asked, "Mr. Kelling, how should we deal with the zombies?"

Bai Lin looked at Harry and asked, "How many attack spells do you know?"

Harry blushed instantly. He was only a second-year student, and in fact, his introductory spells class was only so-so. Only an intellectual genius like Hermione could read so many verbose and obscure spells so fluently.

Bai Lin was taken aback, recalling that in the first and second Harry Potter books, the only somewhat useful basic spells taught by the Hogwarts professors were the Leg-Locking Charm and the Petrifying Charm. He simply waved his hand and said, "Then I'll go first, and you can support me from behind. Use whatever spells you have. Our first lesson is to test which spells are useful in actual combat!"

Harry took out his wand, adjusted his glasses, and nodded vigorously.

Under Harry's astonished gaze, Bai Lin summoned the white werewolf: "Keep an eye on this kid. Hey, kid, I heard you pulled out Gryffindor's sword, right? Well, besides learning spells, you should also learn how to use a sword!"

Bai Lin drew the longsword he had taken from Hagrid, holding it in one hand and a wand in the other, and strode forward. Soon they encountered their first zombie.

The Harry Potter books didn't explicitly define what a zombie was, but Bai Lin quickly saw its true form. Perhaps the system's translation of the word "zombie" was flawed; the "zombie" before him was neither the hopping zombie of Eastern legends nor a virus-infected zombie, but rather resembled a ghoul from a game. Bai Lin then remembered that the Department of Magical Creatures Control in the Ministry of Magic had a "Ghoul Task Force," which must be used to deal with them.

This ghoul was still in human form, but its skin was ulcerated, revealing purplish-red muscle fibers. Its face was cracked, revealing a mouthful of black, sharp teeth. Its eyes were blood red, and it was not afraid of the sunlight. It had been lying motionless in the grass by the roadside, but when it heard Bai Lin's footsteps, it suddenly sprang out of the grass and charged at Bai Lin like a vicious dog, using both hands and feet.
