Searching for someone in northern Myanmar, and you call that earning tuition fees?
Chapter 246 Anyone who listens to his reasoning will go bankrupt!
"Bang—"
The rocket, trailing a plume of flame, crashed into the sand more than forty meters to the right of the convoy.
The explosion kicked up a cloud of dust, and pebbles rained down on the truck bed, making a clanging sound.
It didn't explode.
On Bloodaxe's convoy, the archer shrank back, looking aggrieved.
"Boss, it's too far, and the wind is blowing too hard—"
"Fuck you, you're going to miss!" Blood Axe slapped him across the face. "I spent eight thousand dollars on this stuff, and all you got was a bang? If you miss again, I'll shove the next shot up your ass!"
In the convoy ahead, Li Changfeng grabbed the walkie-talkie and shouted, "Su Ming! How's it going on your end?"
Su Ming's voice came through the walkie-talkie, accompanied by the noise of the wind: "It's alright. The effective range of the rocket launcher is three or four hundred meters. They're firing from two kilometers away, relying on faith to aim. Speed up."
"Black grasshopper! Step on the gas!" Li Changfeng slapped the back of the driver's seat.
Black Grasshopper gripped the steering wheel, practically wanting to disappear into the dashboard: "Dude! I've already floored the gas! This piece of junk wasn't made to go this fast when it left the factory!"
"Da da da da—"
A barrage of gunfire followed. Bullets struck the tailgate of the third pickup truck, piercing the metal and sending sparks flying from the cargo bed.
"Beat him! Beat him hard! Blow that wrecked car to pieces, bring that student back, I'll make him spit out all the money he's taken!" Blood Axe's roar could be heard two kilometers away.
Old Zhao huddled under the back seat, his thermos cup tucked under his arm.
"This is outrageous! Why should I, a mere gatekeeper, be hit by a rocket?" Old Zhao yelled at the top of his lungs. "Li Changfeng! I'm quitting as soon as I get back! I quit!"
"What time is it?" Li Changfeng didn't even turn his head. "Shut up and lie still!"
"Am I not crouching low enough? I wish I could disappear into the earth's crust!"
"If you keep nagging, I'll stuff all the nitroglycerin pills up your nostrils!"
In the third truck bed, Old Gao was curled up in a ball, clutching a wrench. Next to him, the young technician lay prone on the floor of the bed, hands behind his head, muttering, "God help me, Namo Amitabha, Amen—"
Old Gao, annoyed by this, kicked him, yelling, "Whom do you believe?!"
"I believe everything! Don't be picky now!" The technician said without looking up, his voice trembling with tears.
"Too many! Too many!" a welder behind him interjected, clutching his head. "Add Mazu! I'm from Fujian!"
As the pursuers' lights drew closer, another formidable worker next to Lao Gao, gripping the edge of the truck bed, turned pale. "Engineer Gao," he said, "I regret it. I'd rather go back to welding steel bars for Blood Axe, I'd be willing to do it for the rest of my life, than be a sitting duck here!"
"Shut up!" Old Gao punched him on the shoulder. "That kid with the schoolbag saved my life! Now you think he's not reliable enough?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a burst of bullets struck the side of the truck bed, tearing a gash in the metal sheet.
Old Gao immediately changed his tune: "Holy crap! This kid's got some nerve!"
In the last car, Su Ming stuck half his head out to look back.
"Whoosh—" A bullet grazed the roof of the car.
Su Ming shrank back, his brows furrowing slightly.
Big Gold Tooth was so frightened that he swerved the steering wheel: "Dad! They hit you! This is a personal attack on the company's legal representative! I'm going to file a complaint!"
"Complain my ass, drive carefully." Su Ming turned to look at the back seat, where a metal box filled with discarded steel nails, large nuts, and broken steel bars lay scattered.
He calmly began, "Since you're not going to reason, let's talk about physics."
Su Ming flung open the car door, the wind whipping his hair around. He lifted the iron box, which weighed at least twenty or thirty pounds, with one hand and slammed it upside down outside the car door.
"Splash—"
Hundreds and thousands of rusty nails and heavy nuts were carried by the strong wind and covered the entire dirt road.
In the darkness, the car behind could not see the tiny obstacles on the ground at all.
"Bang! Bang!"
Immediately afterwards, a piercing sound of rubber bursting came from behind.
The tires of the two pickup trucks at the front of the car were instantly punctured by nails and nuts. The vehicles lost their balance, spun wildly on the dirt road, and crashed together, completely blocking the road behind them.
The pursuing convoy was forced to stop.
Blood Axe kicked open the car door and jumped out. Looking at the two disabled cars in front of him, and then at Su Ming's convoy that was driving further and further away, he angrily slammed his fist on the hood.
"Boss, the road is blocked! We can't get around it!" the adjutant shouted as he ran over.
Blood Axe stared at the taillights getting smaller and smaller ahead, then suddenly grabbed his phone and dialed a number.
"Feed?" a gruff voice came from the other end of the phone. "Who is it?"
"Iron Hammer, that's me, Blood Axe."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone.
"Yo, Blood Axe." Iron Hammer's voice was wary. "You're calling me in the middle of the night, are you trying to invite me to roast a whole lamb tomorrow? Or are you telling me you're going to beat me up?"
"Neither," Blood Axe said in a low voice, "I need your help. To intercept and kill them."
"Whom do we intercept?"
"Seven beat-up pickup trucks are heading east from my camp. There's a Chinese student in one of them, carrying a backpack."
Iron Hammer became interested: "A student? You, Blood Axe, are being chased by a student and have to call for help?"
"Listen, Iron Hammer." Blood Axe's speech suddenly quickened, his voice hardening. "You're my only opponent on this land. I must warn you—blow that Chinese student with the backpack to smithereens! He's a financial swindler who knows sorcery! Don't listen to him! Blow him up the moment you see him! Anyone who listens to his reasoning will go bankrupt!"
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.
"A financial fraudster?" Hammer's voice was full of confusion. "You can tell people you're bankrupt? Have you been beaten senseless?"
"If you dare talk to him, you'll lose everything, even your underwear. Don't come crying to me then!"
"Alright, alright," Iron Hammer said dismissively, "I'll send someone to check. If I intercept them, how will we split the spoils?"
"The documents in his backpack are all yours. They're worth hundreds of millions."
Hammer hung up the phone.
His henchman sidled up to him: "Boss, what did Blood Axe say?"
Iron Hammer leaned back in his chair, picked at his teeth, and said slowly, "Blood Axe said a student cheated him out of his money and asked me to blow up that student."
The younger brother scratched his head: "Should we blow it up or not?"
Iron Hammer stood up and dusted off his pants.
"Explode my ass." Iron Hammer sneered. "If Blood Axe really wanted me to blow it up, he would do it himself. He called because he's afraid I won't do it. The more he wants me to blow it up, the more valuable the stuff in that bag is."
Iron Hammer pointed to the several armed pickup trucks in the yard: "Take your men and intercept them. But don't fire. Capture them alive. I want to see what kind of student can trick Blood Axe into calling his father and begging for mercy."
At the same time, Blood Axe hung up the phone, a sinister smile appearing on his face.
The adjutant leaned closer: "Boss, did you tell Iron Hammer about the documents? What if he actually got them?"
"Got it?" Blood Axe sneered. "That idiot Iron Hammer is three times greedier than he is. The more I let him blow it up, the more he thinks he'll benefit, and he'll definitely want to capture him alive. As long as he dares to capture him alive, dares to make that student speak—"
Blood Axe paused, the scar on his face trembling.
"Once that Chinese student has bankrupted Iron Hammer, I'll take my men and take over his territory."
The adjutant froze for three seconds, then slapped his thigh: "Boss! Brilliant! You've got a free lunch! You've used someone else to do your dirty work! Killing two birds with one stone!"
"Get lost." Blood Axe kicked him. "Did that Chinese student teach you that word?"
Seven pickup trucks sped through the night on the barren plains.
The headlights of the pursuing vehicles behind us gradually blurred, and the sound of their engines was swallowed up by the sandstorm.
Su Dan braced himself against the car door, flipped over, and sat back in the passenger seat, straightening his collar which had been ruffled by the wind.
Old Zhao's voice came through the communicator, trembling with the shock of surviving a disaster.
"Thank goodness, I've shaken them off. I need to find a place to stop and catch my breath."
"Don't stop." Su Ming picked up the communicator.
Old Zhao's voice suddenly rose: "What now?!"
Su Ming looked at the dark wilderness ahead, his gaze fixed on the twinkling lights on the horizon.
"Blood Axe isn't stupid. He won't chase after it all by himself."
On the communicator, Lao Zhao once again made the sound of the thermos lid being turned, followed by a five-second silence.
"...Li Changfeng, you better remember this. When you get back, I'll write 'failing' on every single organ in your medical report."
