Searching for someone in northern Myanmar, and you call that earning tuition fees?
Chapter 119 As long as you stand tall, the nation is behind you.
The rain was still falling, but Zhao Gang felt that the rain was sweet.
He held the silver jar, wrapped in layers of cling film, in his hands like he was cradling his newborn son. If this thing broke, the entire Southern Territory would have to be sealed off.
Zhao Gang yelled at the top of his lungs, "Helicopter! Get the helicopter down! Take this thing to the highest-level laboratory!"
Before the communications soldier could reply, a huge roar came from overhead.
A camouflaged helicopter made a forced landing on the muddy riverbank. Before the cabin door was even fully open, a middle-aged man in a suit jumped out without regard for decorum, slipping and nearly giving Zhao Gang a deep bow.
It's Li Changfeng.
He wasn't wearing a raincoat, his suit was soaked through, and his hair was plastered to his scalp, making him look disheveled. But his eyes were frighteningly bright, staring intently at Su Ming, who was standing next to the elephant.
"Su Ming!"
Li Changfeng yelled and rushed over to hug him.
Su Ming took a step to the side and pointed to his mud-covered T-shirt: "Brother Li, mind your image. It's hard to wash the mud off your clothes."
Li Changfeng missed his target, but he wasn't embarrassed. Instead, he looked Su Ming up and down, even wanting to reach out and pinch his arms and legs to see if they were still there.
"Are you alright? Huh? Were you bitten? Do you have a fever?" Li Changfeng spoke at breakneck speed, "If anything happens to you, I'll have no choice but to atone with my death!"
"He's alive and well." Su Ming pointed to the things in Zhao Gang's arms. "The handover is complete, my part-time job is over. Remember to leave a five-star review."
Li Changfeng's gaze swept over the silver jar, then settled on the waterproof bag in Zhao Gang's other hand—it contained the hard drive that was crucial to the survival of the S.H.I.E.L.D. creatures.
"This...this is..." Li Changfeng's voice trembled.
"Specialty product." Su Ming pulled a bag of flattened compressed biscuits from his pocket, tore it open, and took a bite. "The jar contains that herb, and the bag contains dirt on that company. Oh, and that fat guy is a bonus."
He pointed to Jerry, who was lying on the ground dry heaving.
Upon hearing this, Jerry immediately stopped vomiting. He crawled to Li Changfeng's feet, grabbed Li Changfeng's leg, and cried uncontrollably.
"Sir! I'm a criminal! I'm a witness! Arrest me!"
Li Changfeng was taken aback by this sudden enthusiasm and tried to pull his leg away: "Who are you? Let go! We need to verify your identity!"
"I'm a criminal! I'm an accomplice! I slacked off at work and even stole company printing paper!" Jerry wiped his snot and tears all over Li Changfeng's suit pants, shouting hoarsely, "I'm guilty! Handcuff me right now! Weld me shut! Lock me in the most secure prison! Immediately! Right now!"
The special forces soldiers around them exchanged bewildered glances. These days, they'd seen people surrender, but this kind of eagerness to go to jail, like they were fighting for New Year's goods, was a first.
Su Ming swallowed the cookie in his mouth and said, "He's afraid of Venom's retaliation. That security supervisor from S.H.I.E.L.D. is as petty as a pinhead."
"Fang..." Jerry shuddered, his eyes filled with terror. "That's a monster! Mr. Su is powerful, but he can't watch over me 24/7! Only prison is safe! Sir, I request a life sentence! Does your prison have Gatling guns and anti-aircraft missiles? I won't go if you don't!"
Li Changfeng: "..."
Zhao Gang: "..."
"Alright." Li Changfeng disdainfully kicked Jerry to Xiao Wang next to him. "Take him away and keep him under separate supervision. Fulfill his wish and find him a single room without windows."
Jerry felt like he'd been granted a pardon and scrambled to follow Xiao Wang, muttering, "Thank God, thank the laws of China, thank the tears behind bars..."
After dealing with the "gift," Li Changfeng looked at Su Ming again, feeling both moved and apprehensive.
"Su Ming, these two hundred million... are worth it." Li Changfeng exclaimed, "No, they're incredibly worth it. It's practically buy one get ten free."
"Payment and goods settled, that's the rule." Su Ming patted the cookie crumbs off his hands. "Since there's nothing else, I'll head back. I still have classes at school. The reason I asked for leave these past few days was 'appendicitis surgery,' and if I don't go back soon, my appendix will have grown back."
"Go...go back?" Li Changfeng's eyes widened. "Leaving already? Aren't you going to get a full checkup? Aren't you going to receive your commendation? The higher-ups are still waiting for you..."
"It's just a part-time job, no need to make such a big deal out of it." Su Ming waved his hand, turned and walked towards the elephant that was still eating leaves. "By the way, remember to keep your promise to give it two tons of sugarcane and ten catties of salt. Animals hold grudges more than humans."
Li Changfeng opened his mouth, looking at the young man's back, his eyes welling up with tears.
The boy was covered in mud, his hair was messy, and his shoulders were still thin, but this freshman managed to withstand the disaster that seemed to be falling from the sky without ever uttering a sound of complaint.
"Wait!" Li Changfeng's voice was hoarse, but his tone was firm. "Su Ming! No matter when, as long as you turn back... the nation will always be there!"
Su Ming paused in his steps.
He didn't turn around, but simply raised his right hand high in the midst of the raging wind and rain, making a "V" sign that appeared clear and powerful under the beam of the searchlight.
"Got it. I'm off, I have to get back to my classes, that... that's the real tribulation."
After saying that, he patted the elephant's leg. The enormous creature seemed to understand, using its trunk to lift Su Ming up and gently place him on its back. Then, swishing its tail, it slowly disappeared into the night at the edge of the rainforest.
Watching this scene, Zhao Gang couldn't help but exclaim, "Director Li, who exactly is this kid?"
Li Changfeng wiped the rain off his face and gave a wry smile.
"A freshman who wants to earn tuition fees."
"You believe it?"
"As long as he's on our side, I'd believe he's the Jade Emperor reincarnated." Li Changfeng glanced at the jar in his hand and then ordered, "Spread the word: this matter is top secret. Anyone who dares to leak a single word will be court-martialed."
Zhao Gang stood at attention: "Understood. So, how do we write the report?"
Li Changfeng gazed for a long time in the direction Su Ming had gone.
"Let that girl from the National Security Bureau write it. She was there the whole time, saw everything clearly, and knows what should and shouldn't be written."
