Hogwarts' Golden Glory

Chapter 174 Vernon's Misunderstanding

Harry's stomach hurt from trying so hard to hold back his laughter.

He quickly told Ron and Hermione to "keep in touch" and ran toward the Dursleys.

Aunt Penny was frantically slapping her hair.

Uncle Vernon is fighting a tie snake.

Dali, on the other hand, bounced around in place like a startled hippopotamus.

"It took them a long time to realize that the snakes weren't moving."

"That was—what was that monster?!"

"Uncle Vernon asked breathlessly."

"House-elves, sir," Harry said, trying to remain serious, "very ancient magical creatures. By the way,"

He couldn't help but add, "Only I can turn you back now."

Uncle Vernon's face turned from red to white, looking like a piece of spoiled lard.

The Dursleys' car roared away from the platform.

But Harry was in an unusually good mood. This summer vacation might not be so hard to endure.

Although underage wizards are prohibited from performing magic outside of school.

But the Vernon family had no idea about this.

As soon as the car pulled out of King's Cross station, Uncle Vernon started nervously fidgeting with his tie.

"Is...is it moving?" he asked Aunt Penny, his voice trembling.

"Don't be silly, Vernon."

Penny answered stiffly, but her eyes remained fixed on the dark green tie.

Harry struggled to suppress his laughter from the back seat.

In fact, the tie never changed, but the Dursleys had clearly fallen into a phobia of magic.

"A tie made of African tree snake skin," Harry muttered seemingly casually.

"It's said they remember the last prey they entangle..."

Vernon's hand jerked off his tie as if he'd been electrocuted, nearly causing him to drive onto the sidewalk.

"You! Shut up!"

He roared, but the tremor in his voice betrayed him.

Dudley huddled in the back seat, sweat dripping down his chubby face.

Every time Harry moved even slightly, he would shrink back into his seat like a startled turtle.

"I just wanted to get the water bottle..."

Harry said slowly, deliberately reaching for his backpack.

"Don't move!"

Aunt Penny shrieked, her neck stiffening like a giraffe's, "Daddy, hand him the water bottle!"

Dali's hands were shaking like a leaf, and the way he handed over the water bottle looked like he was defusing a bomb.

The journey that followed was filled with this comical fear:

Whenever Harry looked out the window, the Dursleys would collectively hold their breath, as if he were casting a spell with his eyes.

At the gas station, Vernon insisted that Harry get out of the car first.

Harry had just opened the car door when...

He floored the gas pedal and drove for more than ten meters, only to have to sheepishly reverse back.

"I just need to use the restroom..." Harry said innocently.

"Hold it in!"

Vernon roared, but immediately changed his tune after seeing Harry reach for his pocket, "I meant... um... the service area will be here soon..."

Aunt Penny maintained a strange posture throughout – her back pressed against the car door, her hands clasped on her knees, as if she were ready to jump out of the car at any moment.

When they finally arrived at 4 Privet Drive, the Dursleys were on edge.

"You...you're staying in this room."

Uncle Vernon's voice sounded like it was being squeezed out from between his teeth.

His fat finger trembled as he pointed to a door on the second floor.

Harry blinked in surprise.

Just five minutes ago, they were discussing letting him continue living in the storage room under the stairs.

"Dada's old toy room," Aunt Penny said nervously, twisting the hem of her apron.

"We...uh...think you deserve a decent room."

Her eyes were fixed on the tip of Harry's wand sticking out of his pocket.

Hedwig let out a dissatisfied chirp from inside the cage.

The Dursleys were so frightened that they all backed away.

"That owl..." Dudley whispered, hiding behind his parents, "Is it chanting a spell?"

Harry suppressed a laugh: "She's just hungry."

"Meat! Prepare the meat right now!" Vernon suddenly shouted, nearly knocking over the umbrella stand beside him. "Fresh! No, top-quality meat!"

Hedwig received queen-like treatment.

Penny cautiously used the longest pair of barbecue tongs to stuff the steaks into the cage.

Every time Hedwig turned her head, she jumped back as if she had been electrocuted.

The arrangement of the new room can be described as magical realism:

The bed was made even more neatly than in a five-star hotel.

But there were bells tied to all four corners of the bed, which was probably some kind of alarm system.

Brand new stationery was laid out on the desk.

Each pen was wrapped in three layers of plastic wrap.

Several landscape paintings are hanging on the wall.

All moving elements were painted with mosaic.

Do you like it?

Vernon forced a smile that looked more like a grimace.

Sweat had already formed streams on his bald head.

Just as Harry was about to answer, Hedwig suddenly pecked at the cage.

This action made Penny scream, "It's going to cast a spell!"

"She just wanted a perch..." Harry explained.

Ten minutes later, Dudley returned carrying his most expensive baseball bat: "Is...is this okay?"

Hedwig was thus granted an expensive, luxurious perch.

Just then, Penny's scream suddenly came from downstairs.

When they rushed down, they saw Penny pointing a mop at the kitchen faucet.

The water flowing out of it turned a pale green color for some reason.

Anyone with normal eyes can tell at a glance that the water pipes are rusty.

"Change it back! Change it back quickly!"

She hysterically waved her rubber gloves at Harry.

"I didn't do it—"

"We'll agree to anything!" Vernon suddenly lay down.

This action left him breathless. "Just get rid of these...abnormalities...including this snake."

Harry blinked, then suddenly had an idea.

He slowly and deliberately took out his wand.

The Dursleys all took three steps back.

Then Harry waved it dismissively: "Restored to normal!"

"That's it?" Dali asked in a low voice.

"The magic will take a while to take effect," Harry said seriously.

"However... I might need better food to maintain my magic power..."

"Steak! Steak for tonight!" Vernon said immediately.

"...and pocket money..."

"Ten pounds a week! No, twenty pounds!"

Although Harry has Galleons, you can't spend them in the Muggle world.

"...and the freedom to use the telephone..."

Penny looked like she was about to faint, but she still nodded weakly.

Harry put his wand away with satisfaction: "I think the magic has already started to work."

Sure enough, the water from the tap gradually became clearer.

Actually, Harry secretly turned on the water purifier.

And the curse on them disappeared.

Harry had just seen that the magic on the other person was about to wear off.

That evening, Harry enjoyed the most lavish meal he had ever had at the Dursleys' house: rare steak, baked potatoes, and even ice cream for dessert.

Vernon stood behind him the whole time like a restaurant waiter.

Harry's plate was replenished immediately whenever it became even slightly empty.

"Would you like...some more juice?"

He asked obsequiously, "Or something like a Coke?"

Before going to bed, Harry found a tray by his door with warm milk, cookies, and a handwritten card on it.

Goodnight—Your faithful Dursley family

It's clear that the word "faithful" has been altered several times.

Harry lay in bed, listening to the whispers coming from downstairs:

"Do you think he might turn us all into toads?"

Shh! He can hear you!

He couldn't help but laugh out loud.

This summer vacation seems to be much more interesting than he imagined.
