Hogwarts' Golden Glory

Chapter 17: The Battle for the Top Spot!

Draco and the others did not pay much attention to Dumbledore's seemingly strange behavior.

In their view, it was perfectly normal for the principal to act strangely and erratically, occasionally forgetting things or doing things that were hard to understand.

However, Kane was secretly complaining to himself.

He knew perfectly well that Dumbledore's actions were no accident; it was clearly a blatant temptation. On one hand, it was a hint to Voldemort that the Philosopher's Stone was hidden in these mentioned places;

On the other hand, this undoubtedly stimulates the curiosity and desire for exploration in the young wizards.

The temptation was too obvious, and Voldemort seemed to have no other choice. The young wizards, on the other hand, were easily aroused by it.

"Now, before everyone goes to bed, let's sing the school song together!"

After Dumbledore finished explaining all the precautions, he slowly drew his Elder Wand and gently waved it. In an instant, a soft light emanated from the tip of the wand, and he directed the entire school to sing a school song that had only lyrics but no fixed melody.

For a moment, singing filled the auditorium, but the sound was far from pleasant; instead, it was rather noisy and jarring.

The smiles of the teachers and students, who were originally smiling, gradually froze on their faces, revealing an awkward and helpless expression.

Seeing this, Kane calmly cast a shielding spell on himself, instantly shutting out the noisy and unpleasant sounds around him, and his mind became much calmer.

Amidst the scattered and uneven singing of the crowd, only the Weasley twins stood out.

They continued to sing along to the slow, somber melody of the Funeral March, their voices deep and melodious.

Dumbledore seemed to be attracted by their unique performance, and even used his wand to direct them through the last few sections.

Finally, the peculiar chorus ended in chaos, and it was time for the students to go to bed.

The senior prefects stood up and led the freshmen from their respective colleges back to their dormitories.

The first-year Gryffindor students followed closely behind Percy as they walked through the bustling, noisy crowd out of the Great Hall and up the wide marble staircase.

Harry felt as if his legs were filled with lead, not only because he was exhausted from running around all day, but also because the sumptuous dinner he had just eaten had made him feel bloated and somewhat unable to move.

Ron quickened his pace to catch up with his prefect brother Percy, a worried look on his face, and asked softly, "Percy, are you alright? Um, I mean, are you okay?"

He kept thinking about how Percy had been struck by Kane's spell. In his opinion, Kane must have used some kind of evil dark magic, otherwise how could he have defeated Percy so easily?

This intensified his hostility towards Kane.

"It's okay. Just don't tell Fred and the others about this! Otherwise, they'll tell Mom again!"

Percy quickly waved his hand to indicate that he was fine, while giving Ron a warning look. He didn't want more people to know about this embarrassing incident.

"That Kane must be a dark wizard, otherwise how could he have been sorted into Slytherin!" Ron's tone was full of certainty, clearly still harboring deep suspicion and hostility towards Kane's identity.

In his mind, Slytherin House was like a breeding ground for dark magic, and Kane being assigned there undoubtedly confirmed his negative suspicions about Kane.

Upon hearing Ron's description, Percy's lips curled up slightly, revealing a barely perceptible smile.

He patted Ron on the shoulder and said softly, "Alright, don't worry about it. I'll handle him when the time comes, but don't mess with him; you're no match for him."

Kane was naturally unaware of what was happening to the new Gryffindor students.

However, even knowing that Percy wanted to target him, he wasn't afraid at all. At that moment, he was following Gemma Farley to the Slytherin common room.

Gemma Farley is an extremely beautiful woman with a gentle appearance. She has long, curved eyebrows, and her tawny eyes are like deep lake water. Her high nose bridge makes her facial features more three-dimensional, and her sexy red lips are slightly upturned, exuding a unique charm.

"I am Gemma Farley, the Prefect of Slytherin! Here, you must strictly adhere to discipline. I have no intention of seeing anyone lose points for breaking the rules. Newcomers, put away your curious and ignorant eyes, and always remember that you are members of Slytherin!"

Gemma Farley's voice was clear and firm. Her serious words were like a thunderclap, giving these newcomers a rude awakening and making them realize that discipline was not to be underestimated in Slytherin.

The Slytherin common room is located deep within the dungeons of Hogwarts Castle.

Soon, the group arrived at a stone wall in front of the dungeon.

"Pureblood." Gemma Farley whispered the command, and in an instant, a stone door slowly appeared in the stone wall, behind which was the passageway leading to the common room.

This was a long, narrow, and low dungeon. Round lamps with an eerie green glow were tied to the ceiling by thick chains, hanging down and emitting a faint light.

The walls around the room were decorated with skulls, adding a mysterious and eerie atmosphere to the room.

Part of the dungeon extends to the bottom of the Black Lake, so the room is filled with a faint green hue, as if shrouded in a mysterious green veil.

Kane was puzzled. When they were on the ship, Starshadow reacted violently to the magical energy at the bottom of the lake, but now that they were in this lounge, Starshadow showed no reaction at all.

He guessed that this lounge might have a special function of shielding magical energy, which was why Starshadow remained completely still.

"The password to enter the common room changes every two weeks, and the new password will be posted on the bulletin board! You must remember it well, otherwise you'll have to sleep outside."

Gemma Farley reiterated her advice.

Just then, Professor Snape, dressed in a long black robe, strode in with steady steps. All the new students simultaneously looked up at this legendary, mysterious, and stern headmaster.

"First of all, welcome to Slytherin House. I am your Head of House."

"I'm sure you all have a certain understanding of our house by now. If there's anything you're still unclear about, then listen carefully!" Professor Snape's deep, resonant voice echoed in the quiet common room. "Our house has won the House Cup for six consecutive years, which is enough to prove that we are the most advanced and outstanding house in this school in every aspect. Everything we do is in pursuit of victory because we care deeply about Slytherin's honor and tradition! At the same time, we have also gained respect from other houses, although perhaps mixed with a little fear. But for us, once you become a member of Slytherin, you are part of our elite group! You all possess great qualities, and you were sorted into this house because you have the potential to become great figures in this real material world. Finally, congratulations again on becoming a member of Slytherin!"

Professor Snape's words were like a shot in the arm, greatly comforting the little snakes who had heard so much bad talk about Slytherin along the way.

They thought to themselves: That's right, those people speak ill of us only because they are not as good as us. Only those who cannot have something would harbor such slanderous intentions. At this moment, everyone was filled with confidence and pride in their college.

"So now, the first-year Slytherin students need to elect a prefect, or more precisely, a chief prefect."

Professor Snape's gaze swept across the faces of the new students, his expression still cold and stern. "When you reach fifth year, the class monitor will be able to directly assume the position of prefect."

As soon as he finished speaking, a tense atmosphere filled the previously lively air, and the lounge instantly fell silent.

"I think most of you are familiar with the rules of wizard duels."

Now, I need you to elect a leader who is worthy of everyone's trust through a duel! Those who wish to participate, stand to my left!

Professor Snape swept his sharp, deep gaze across the first-year students once more, a gaze that seemed to penetrate their very souls.

In fact, he had already made his own judgment about the candidate for chief.

After scanning the room, almost all the freshmen quickly stood to Professor Snape's left, except for Draco and his two henchmen Crabbe and Goyle, who remained where they were.

The freshmen standing on the left were all eager to try, their faces beaming with excitement and anticipation.

In their view, this was a perfect opportunity to showcase themselves and gain power. As a young wizard who yearned for power, they would naturally not give up such an opportunity to stand out.

Their eyes were filled with disdain as they looked at Draco and his two companions. In their minds, a wizard who gave up such an opportunity for advancement was not a qualified Slytherin at all!

Under the scrutiny of everyone, Draco's face instantly turned bright red. The usually arrogant Draco couldn't help but feel embarrassed in the face of the disdainful looks from these young wizards.

However, he was well aware of Kane's strength, and in his opinion, it was simply a pipe dream for these people present to want to become the chief!

"Alright, I see you're all ready!"

Professor Snape, seeing that everyone was in place, nodded slightly, then waved his wand, signaling everyone to disperse and prepare for the fierce duel for the top spot...
