Chapter 50 The Gift
The news that Harry Potter and Ron Weasley had drunk Polyjuice Potion and impersonated Crabbe and Goyle to sneak into the Slytherin common room spread throughout Hogwarts the very next day.
The atmosphere at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall was incredibly somber that morning. Snape's deduction of one hundred points weighed heavily on everyone's hearts, and their faces were grim.
The Slytherin table was filled with merriment. Pansy vividly described how Weasley's face turned a deep purplish-red with Crabbe on it, making Daphne so amused that she almost spilled pumpkin juice on her robe.
Draco Malfoy sat next to Elias, chin held high, his grey-blue eyes brimming with undisguised smugness. Elias sat beside him, quietly slicing an egg, his long, silver-grey hair cascading over his shoulders, oblivious to the surrounding noise. Occasionally, when Draco got carried away, his arm would brush against Elias's, and he wouldn't flinch, simply pulling his plate away slightly.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the Gryffindor table, Fred and George Weasley were huddled together, their heads almost touching.
"Have you heard?" Fred asked in a low voice, his red eyes gleaming slyly in the candlelight. "That Malfoy kid had quite the show last night."
"I heard about it." George bit his lip, struggling to suppress a laugh. "They said our Ron is a poor, slovenly freak."
"And Ron didn't come to dinner today either," Fred added.
The two exchanged a glance, both revealing an expression that said, "How can we tolerate this?"
"Valentine's Day is almost here," Fred said slowly. "Perhaps we should give Malfoy a Valentine's Day present."
"A memorable, loving gift that will benefit him for a lifetime," George replied.
Fred pulled a beautifully wrapped chocolate from his robe pocket. The gold foil gleamed in the candlelight, and a pink ribbon was tied to it. The chocolate was small, but the packaging was exquisite, as if it had been taken from the most expensive shelf at Honeydukes.
"What's this?" George raised an eyebrow.
"Newly developed," Fred said in a low voice, "a recipe sent from Peru last month—gender-reversing chocolate. Eat it, and your gender will be reversed within a day."
George's eyes lit up.
Are you sure?
"I tried it on Filch's cat." Fred looked eager to try it. "It worked wonders. The cat stood up and peed all day long."
The two of them burst out laughing at the same time, a silent laugh that made their shoulders shake.
"How do I deliver it?" George asked.
Fred pulled another pink greeting card from his pocket, with a few lines of neat cursive writing on it.
George looked at it once, then again, and took a deep breath.
"Disgusting," he said.
"The more disgusting, the more real." Fred tucked the greeting card under the ribbon in the chocolate box, clapped his hands, and said, "Send it out."
Taking advantage of the chaos after breakfast, the two slipped the "Valentine's Day gift" into the owl parcel's delivery slot, the recipient's name clearly written as Draco Malfoy.
Meanwhile, in Slytherin, Draco and Elias were walking out of the Great Hall one after the other. With Valentine's Day approaching, the atmosphere of fear at Hogwarts had lessened considerably, and everyone was preparing their Valentine's Day gifts. In that short walk, Draco and Elias had already received shy glances from no fewer than five young wizards.
"Oh, Merlin! Why are they looking at me like that!" Draco walked ahead, swinging his legs rapidly.
At first, Draco was quite pleased with himself for seeing so many people captivated by him, but as soon as he saw too many of these "admiring" glances, he wanted to run away.
"Elijas, let's hurry up and leave."
After saying this, Draco didn't hear a reply for a while, then turned his head and looked at Elias.
"Isn't being popular a good thing?" Elias walked behind him, his voice flat.
Draco rolled his eyes elegantly, grabbed Elias's arm, and pulled him forward. "That's not the kind of popularity I want! What are you babbling about? Let's go!"
