Chapter 51 Chocolate
On Valentine's Day, all the young wizards who went to the hall were deeply shocked.
Large, pink flowers floated from the ceiling, deep purple curtains hung from the walls, and every suit of armor was polished to a gleaming shine, surrounded by glittering confetti. At the teachers' table, Gilderoy Lockhart, dressed in a bright purple robe with a huge red rose pinned to his chest, smiled so brightly it was almost blinding.
"Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!" Lockhart stood up, opening his arms as if to embrace the entire hall. "Thank you all. Forty-six people have already given me greeting cards—I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude!"
Draco's fork clattered onto the plate. He stared at the pink petals falling from the ceiling, his grey-blue eyes filled with disdain.
"Merlin," he whispered, his voice like he'd just swallowed a slug.
Lockhart was still going on and on about his "Valentine's Day surprise," which basically meant that he had found twelve dwarfs with golden wings who would dress up as Cupid and wander around the castle today, delivering Valentine's Day cards to the students.
As soon as he finished speaking, the buzzing sound of the dwarf flapping his wings echoed from every corner of the auditorium.
Draco took a deep breath, pushed the plate forward, and refused to eat.
"I'm going back to the common room," he said, pushing back his chair and standing up.
Elias put down his coffee cup and stood up as well. The two walked out of the hall one after the other.
For the rest of the day, Hogwarts was filled with dwarves in golden kilts carrying harps. They weren't fast flyers, but they had incredibly loud voices. If they caught a student, they would read out the greeting card they were holding in front of everyone, attracting a crowd of onlookers.
"Your eyes are like pearls in a black lake—" a little dwarf recited with great emotion as he chased after a Ravenclaw boy.
"Did I tell you to read it?!" The boy's face turned red, and he ran away.
Such incidents happened repeatedly. Even Draco was almost cornered at the stairwell by a dwarf after class. In the end, Elias distracted the dwarf with a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, allowing them to escape.
"You actually bribed Cupid with snacks." Draco watched the little dwarf fly away with his Beans of Flavor, feeling a sense of relief at surviving a close call.
Merlin knew! When Draco was stopped by the dwarves, he desperately wanted to vanish on the spot; he was even willing to give up all his Galleons!
"As long as it works." Elias patted the non-existent debris off his hands, his expression calm.
They descended the spiral staircase, the wall lamps casting a faint green glow in the steam. The voices of the dwarfs reciting greeting cards behind them grew fainter and fainter, until finally they were completely cut off by the thick stone walls.
The Slytherin common room was quiet; most people hadn't returned yet, and only a few students were huddled on the sofas in the corner.
Draco walked to the dark green sofa by the fireplace and sat down, with Elias sitting next to him. Just as Draco was about to say something, an owl squeezed in through the crack in the stone door, flapped its wings, and landed on the coffee table, a delicate pink gift box tied to its leg.
The owl put down the gift box, glanced at Draco, and then flapped its wings and flew away.
Draco stared at the pink gift box, his expression complex.
"Another love letter?" Elias asked.
"It seems so." Draco picked up the gift box, untied the pink ribbon, and opened the lid. Inside was a beautifully packaged golden chocolate, emitting a sweet cocoa aroma. A pink greeting card was affixed to the inside of the lid, on which was written in neat cursive script: "To my dearest Draco Malfoy. Your eyes are like stars in a winter night, your smile is my only sunshine. From someone who silently loves you."
Draco's lips twitched slightly after reading the greeting card.
"How could anyone write something like that?" He tossed the greeting card aside, picked up the chocolate, and said, "But the chocolate smells nice."
Elias glanced at him.
"Aren't you afraid it's a prank?"
Draco scoffed. "Who dares mess with the Malfoys?" He broke off a small piece of chocolate, popped it into his mouth, chewed it, and said, "It tastes good. Want some?"
Elias shook his head.
Draco broke off another piece and ate it.
Then he sensed something was wrong; the chocolate he'd swallowed was stuck in his throat, becoming increasingly viscous. Draco's face contorted, and a layer of physiological mist welled up in his gray-blue eyes. He covered his mouth, sprang up abruptly from the sofa, and staggered towards his dormitory.
The students in the corner of the common room looked up at Draco's stumbling figure, exchanging bewildered glances. Elias had already stood up and followed behind, the stone door sliding open and closing behind them.
The sound of running water from the faucet being turned up to its maximum came from the dormitory's washroom, mixed with suppressed, nauseating dry heaving.
Elias stood in the center of the bedroom, facing the translucent frosted stone door. The sound of running water continued for a long time. Interspersed with a few coughs, it gradually subsided, until only the sound of water dripping from the faucet remained.
The stone door slid open.
Draco stepped out, leaning against the doorframe. His platinum blonde hair was wet and clung to his forehead and cheeks, with water droplets running down the ends and dripping onto the collar of his robe.
Draco looked up and saw Elias staring at him.
"What are you looking at?" Draco said.
The voice was clear and sweet, very pleasant to hear, but Draco was stunned. His eyes widened, and he subconsciously raised his hand to touch his throat. His Adam's apple was gone, and his fingers touched a smooth, delicate skin.
"I—" he said another word, but his voice still sounded off.
Draco suddenly looked down at his hands. His fingers were long and slender, his nails were rounded, and his skin was as white as porcelain.
Draco's heart began to race.
He rushed to the decorative mirror next to the fireplace.
A young girl stood in the mirror. Her platinum-blonde hair cascaded down to her waist, and her blue-gray eyes were wide open in shock. Her eyes were long and upturned at the corners, her eyelashes were long and curled, her face was as if powdered, and her lips were a watery red, like lilac petals.
Draco incredulously pulled his hair back, his blond hair slid aside, fully revealing the contours of his face. He tilted his head slightly, his jawline appearing so thin and fragile.
Even the most discerning girl in Slytherin had to admit—this face was excessively beautiful.
Draco Malfoy has been transformed into a girl.
"ah--!"
