Who moved her body?

Chapter 24 I Picked Up a King

The guards on the desolate island stopped the creaking, dilapidated Golf. Xu Haiyang got out and slapped the guard across the face. "Are you kidding me? Didn't the people at the viewing platform tell you it was my car?"

"Why would the young master ride in such a shabby car? I thought they were joking with me." The security guard lowered his head in grievance and muttered softly.

"Fine, fine, hurry up and get me a different car." Xu Haiyang said impatiently.

He had never ridden in such a cheap car since birth. Not only was it cheap, but the car reeked of papaya sweat and fermented cigarette ash. He hadn't noticed it at the Butterfly Club because he was nervous, but now, he would rather die than ride in it again.

Soon, a spare car parked at the entrance pulled up. Xu Haiyang personally opened the driver's side door and said to Guan Jie, "Come on, I'll give you a nice car to race around in."

Guan Jie stood up, his vision completely dark. He felt a tremendous pressure in his stomach, pushing everything in his abdominal cavity upwards.

When the rusty taste filled his mouth, Guan Jie saw the place from his childhood, a place that was both bitter and happy.

He and Song Xiaoxian sat under the wall of the orphanage, sharing a piece of peanut candy. He had earned it by washing dishes for the kitchen lady. He took a small bite; it was so sweet and crumbly.

Song Xiaoxian puffed out her cheeks, reluctant to chew the candy, and simply kept it in her mouth.

"When I grow up, I'll buy you a whole truckload of candy!" Guan Jie patted his chest and promised.

Song Xiaoxian tilted her head and thought for a moment before saying, "I don't want that many. I heard that eating too much candy makes it less sweet. I only want two, one for you and one for me, so we can be sweet together, okay?"

……

A sweet taste spread in Guan Jie's mouth. Guan Jie watched as Song Xiaoxian, dressed in a wedding gown, walked towards him with a gentle smile, while he held a bouquet of flowers in his hands, with two heart-shaped candies wrapped in colorful packaging at the center of each flower.

Guan Jie reached out his hand, and just as Song Xiaoxian placed her hand in his, a car rushed over and knocked Song Xiaoxian into the air.

"No!" Guan Jie shouted as he woke up, startling Mugua, who was dripping glucose water into his mouth, who took several steps back.

"Zhao Ren, you're awake?" Mugua asked with surprise and delight.

Where am I? And who is Zhao Ren? Guan Jie looked at the IV drip above his head, his headache making him almost forget everything.

"Where is this?" Guan Jie asked.

Papaya sat back down on Guan Jie's bedside and said to the bewildered Guan Jie, "This is Desolate Rock Island. Boss, this is Xu Haiyang. You saved his life."

Guan Jie remembered. This wasn't the orphanage or Senhai City, but the desolate rocky island he had been trying to reach. Yes, he had succeeded.

"How long did I sleep?"

"Two days and two nights!" Papaya said, holding up her right index and middle fingers. "The doctor said if you don't wake up today, you won't wake up at all."

"What's that?" Guan Jie asked, looking at the small bowl in Mu Gua's hand.

"I was afraid you'd starve, so I fed you some glucose water, hehe." Papaya scratched her head sheepishly and said, "The doctor said you were on an IV drip, but I felt that people need to eat something, otherwise it's so uncomfortable to be hungry, so I secretly got you some glucose."

Guan Jie smacked his lips a few times, licked them, and said, "It's so sweet, I want more."

Papaya excitedly picked up the dropper and fed the rest to Guan Jie.

"When I was little, my family was poor. There were four brothers and many sisters, and my dad ran off with a woman who worked at a hair salon, leaving my mom to raise us all alone. Those were tough times. All I ever heard was my stomach rumbling; I never knew what it felt like to be full. My mom worked in a sugar factory, fourteen hours a day, starting at five in the morning and coming home at seven. Before she finished get off work, she would rub her hands vigorously in the sugar. When she got home, she would make us lick her hands—that was our dinner." Papaya smiled and shook her head. "My mom said that as long as life has sweetness, it won't feel bitter, and you can get through anything. That sweetness on her hands—I'll never forget it. So even now, no matter what happens, I eat candy. As long as I can taste sweetness, there's no hurdle I can't overcome, don't you think?"

Guan Jie nodded.

"Yes, that sweet taste I'll never forget!"

Papaya covered Guan Jie with the blanket.

"I went to call the boss, and he said you woke up and wanted to come see you."

After Mugua left, Guan Jie looked around the room. The yellow 3D floral wallpaper made the large room feel very cozy. The white gauze curtains in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows blocked the view outside. Although he couldn't see the view clearly, the greenery told Guan Jie that it was beautiful outside the window. The soft mattress didn't seem like a servant's place. On the wall opposite the bed was a 72-inch curved TV. On the side away from the window, there was a large wardrobe integrated into the ceiling, a full three meters wide.

Guan Jie caught a glimpse of the bathroom to the right of the bed out of the corner of his eye. Behind the glass wall were drawn soft blinds, and through the glass, he could see a fan-shaped bathtub and a shower room inside the bathroom. The toilet was blocked by a wall, with only the toilet paper dispenser visible on one side of the glass door.

Just then, footsteps came from the direction of the door, and soon Xu Haiyang walked in, a cigar about the thickness of a thumb dangling from his lips.

With his head wrapped in gauze, Xu Haiyang looked like an Arab; he would have looked even more like one if he were wearing a white robe.

Xu Haiyang sat on the chair in front of Guan Jie's bed, took the cigar off his lips and handed it to Mugua.

"Zhao Ren, you're a real man, damn it." Xu Haiyang wiped his mouth and said, "The doctor drained a whole bucket of blood from your stomach. Nobody knows how you managed to make it to the island after being so badly injured. It's a miracle you didn't drive the car into the sea."

Guan Jie remembered what the powerful pressure in his stomach was before he lost consciousness.

Guan Jie raised his hand to pull back the blanket and looked down at his body.

"Don't worry, a world-class surgeon operated on you. Two ribs are fractured, and they removed that useless spleen. With that physique, you'll be out picking up girls in less than a month." Xu Haiyang stared at Guan Jie's abs, his lips curled in envy and jealousy. "I thought I'd only get a bronze-level player, but I ended up with a king-level one. Do you know who that big guy you beat up is?"

Guan Jie shook his head and pulled the blanket up.

"The champion of the last competition, I heard he was invincible. Chen Kaipiao spent a lot of money to hire him to fight me, but I didn't expect you to knock him out, hahaha." Xu Haiyang was laughing heartily when he suddenly cried out and touched his head. "Damn it, I didn't realize this thing was useful when I wasn't injured. I only realized it had feeling after I got hit."

Papaya chuckled to herself from behind.

"Where is Chen Kaipiao?"
