My partner at Hogwarts is Tom

Chapter 4 Professors and Teaching Assistants

"Victor," Dumbledore's voice was calm and pleasant.

"It's great to see you back safely. I hope the Siberian permafrost and poachers didn't cause you and Tom too much trouble? I heard you even received a nice little medal."

Victor went into the room and closed the door.

"Professor Dumbledore, there were some troubles, but they've all been resolved."

He then walked over to Newt and said with a smile, "Grandpa."

Newt snapped out of his reverie about the baby Cabrotalon, turned around, saw Victor, and immediately broke into a shy but incredibly happy smile.

"Ah, Viktor! It's good you're back, it's good you're back. Tina said you caught the poachers? You weren't hurt, were you? Those Siberian venomous horned beasts are very dangerous during their summer magical activity period, their horns..."

"They've all moved safely, Grandpa," Viktor skillfully and appropriately interrupted his grandfather's upcoming long-winded explanation. "I'm fine too."

Newt breathed a sigh of relief and rubbed his hands together.

"That's good, that's good. Albus has brought the official Hogwarts employment letter."

He pointed to an exquisite envelope on the desk, bearing the Hogwarts crest.

Viktor was momentarily stunned as he stared at the familiar yet unfamiliar envelope.

Dumbledore stood up, picked up the envelope, and handed it to Victor.

"The Hogwarts Board of Trustees and I believe you are the best candidate to succeed Professor Kettleburn, not only because of your surname and lineage, but also because of your personal experiences around the world over the years, your profound and unique understanding of magical creatures, and..."

He paused, his gaze seeming to deepen.

"Your experience in dealing with 'darkness'. Hogwarts today needs a professor who can not only impart knowledge, protect students, but also... detect anomalies."

Viktor took the envelope but did not open it immediately.

He glanced at his grandfather, and Newt nodded encouragingly at him.

"Professor," Victor said, looking directly at Dumbledore.

"I accept the job. But I'd like to know, what exactly do you mean by 'abnormal' and 'darkness'? Is it merely... the threat of some dark magic creature? Or something else?"

The study was quiet for a few seconds. Newt glanced at Dumbledore with concern. Dumbledore held his fingertips together in front of him.

"Voldemort is back, Victor."

Dumbledore's voice remained calm, but its weight seemed to freeze the air for a moment.

"Although the Ministry of Magic refuses to acknowledge it, his power is growing in the shadows. His followers are active, and some dark creatures and black magic creations are beginning to become restless."

"So I need a pair of eyes, a pair of eyes that can notice any unusual signs related to dark forces that may appear inside or outside the castle, deep in the Forbidden Forest, or even around the students."

"Fantastic creatures are often a sensitive indicator of change in the magical world, and you both understand them and have witnessed true cruelty."

He walked over to Victor and patted him on the shoulder.

"Of course, the primary task is to pass on Professor Kettleburn's love and knowledge of magical creatures, and to ensure the safety of students when they come into contact with these wondrous beings. I believe you can do a great job, or even better."

Viktor immediately opened the letter of appointment, while the system interface silently flickered at the edge of his field of vision.

[Mission Update: Head to Hogwarts]

[Position: Professor of Magical Creatures Conservation]

[Reward: 1 spin on the roulette wheel (can be drawn at any time)]

"I understand, Professor." Victor nodded. "I will do my best to protect the students, but I just hope that everyone will not look down on me as a Hogwarts dropout."

"No, I think everyone will like you."

Dumbledore couldn't help but laugh as he listened to Victor's words.

"Very good!"

Upon hearing that Victor had accepted the position at Hogwarts, Newt said with delight, seemingly wanting to applaud but also a little embarrassed.

"Your suitcase... I mean, yours, is it ready? Hogwarts might need you to show the teaching facilities... and the students should get to know the new little guys better."

"Everything is ready, Grandpa. You can 'move in' anytime."

Dumbledore smiled and said, "Well then, welcome to Hogwarts, Professor Victor. Before the start of the semester, perhaps you could come to the castle to familiarize yourself with the environment, and then Minerva will need you to coordinate some work there."

"I imagine Hagrid will be very happy to have a new neighbor, after all, I remember you two got along very well back then—oh, by the way, about your teaching assistant..."

Before he could finish speaking, the study door was flung open with a bang, revealing a large, human-shaped hole in the heavy oak door.

Tom burst through the door with half a sardine in his mouth and crumbs of scones on his face.

Upon seeing Dumbledore and Newt in the room, it immediately swallowed the fish.

Then, in a flurry of activity, he shoved the door panel containing the image of the person he had slammed against the wall back in.

With a hammer and nails that he somehow found, he hammered and pounded the heavy oak door until it was back to normal.

After looking at his work with satisfaction, Tom stuffed the tools behind his back.

He immediately tried to look serious and earnest, even stroking his beard with his paw.

At the same time, he tucked the bearskin hat on his head into the fur on his buttocks.

Then they pulled out a dark purple wizard's robe and pointed wizard's hat, just like Dumbledore's, and hurriedly dressed him.

It walked to Victor's feet, puffed out its chest, its wizard hat standing proudly on its head, then patted itself with its paw and pointed at Victor.

Finally, he gave Dumbledore a thumbs-up, grinned widely, showing off his white teeth with a confident smile, and his eyes were full of anticipation.

Dumbledore watched the strangely behaving cat with great interest, his eyes behind his half-moon spectacles sparkling with curiosity.

"This is Tom? Indeed... extraordinary. I think, if he's willing, and if you can ensure classroom order, the role of a 'special teaching assistant' might not be out of the question?"

Tom was instantly overjoyed, his whole body swelled up, and then he did a difficult backflip on the spot.

Upon landing, he caught the pointed wizard's hat, which had finally flown off due to the large movement, quickly turned it back on, and gave Dumbledore an extremely exaggerated bow, almost bending his waist in half.

Victor rubbed his forehead: "Professor, I think you might regret this decision..."

Dumbledore laughed, and his laughter echoed through the study filled with books and magical creatures.

"Hogwarts always welcomes unique souls, regardless of their form. Well then, see you in a few days, Professor Victor... and, Tom 'Assistant'."

Goodbye, Professor Dumbledore.
