Dragon Raja: Lu Mingfei's War Journey
Chapter 16 Internal Strife
"I didn't take it! Maybe you stole it yourself!" Upon hearing Marcelo's words, Canceza's face instantly turned red, and he roared back angrily.
He painstakingly cared for the wounded every day, but in the end, he was branded a thief.
"What did you say?!" Upon hearing this, Marcelo was completely enraged.
If he wanted to steal food, no one could find out, but he considered himself the leader and had to set an example. Not only did he not steal food, but he also ate as little as possible so that others could eat more.
Marcelo knew he had food in his pocket, but he had to do everything he could to resist his instincts not to eat it. This was an unimaginable torment for him, but now Cancesa's words negated all his efforts.
He could no longer bear it. He raised his fist and swung it at Cancesar. Cancesar also raised his fist in return. They both believed that they had made great contributions to the team and naturally could not stand being insulted by others.
Those nearby were stunned by the sudden turn of events. After a moment of shock, they rushed forward to try to separate the two. Lu Mingfei also quickly put down his water bottle and rushed over to help separate them.
"Stop hitting him!"
"Stop it!"
But at this moment, the two were already in a frenzy, swinging their fists wildly, and anyone who tried to break them up was likely to be accidentally injured.
In the chaotic pushing and blocking, Lu Mingfei's still not fully healed right shoulder was unfortunately hit hard by someone's elbow.
A piercing pain struck, causing Lu Mingfei's vision to go black. He staggered back two steps, clutching his shoulder, cold sweat instantly beading on his forehead.
Just when the situation was about to completely spiral out of control.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two crisp sounds of impact rang out almost simultaneously as two bottles smashed into Marcelo and Cancesa's heads at the same time, stunning them and leaving them frozen in place.
The scuffle stopped abruptly, everyone was stunned, and then they all looked in the direction from which the bottle had flown.
In the corner of the cabin, Nono had somehow managed to sit up, propping herself up on her elbows. Her face was still pale, and she was breathing heavily, clearly from aggravating her wound when she threw the bottle.
"Have you had enough?" Her voice wasn't loud, but no one dared to meet her beautiful eyes, which shone with a faint golden light, as if a man-eating beast lurked within them, sending chills down everyone's spines. The chaotic scene immediately began to quiet down.
The others seized the opportunity to step forward and pull Marcelo and Cancesa apart, while Lu Mingfei quickly came to Nono's side and carefully helped her lie down again.
"Are you alright?" Lu Mingfei asked anxiously, looking at Nuonuo's pale face and furrowed brows.
Nono waved her hand, then turned her gaze to Lu Mingfei's shoulder where he had just been bumped: "I'm fine, I won't die. But you... were you hurt when you were bumped?"
"I... I just got bumped, it's nothing serious, I'll be fine after a while," Lu Mingfei replied softly, not wanting her to worry.
Nuonuo looked at Lu Mingfei, then reached out and gently patted Lu Mingfei's uninjured shoulder, speaking boldly like a big sister.
"Don't worry, I told you you're my little brother, I'll definitely protect you."
Hearing Nuonuo's words, Lu Mingfei felt a warmth in his heart. She was proving that what she said earlier was not just empty talk.
On the other side, Marcelo and Cancesa did not continue to fight, but the atmosphere was still tense. The two continued to glare at each other, and could fight again at any time. They were soon separated and each went to one end of the cabin.
"Alright, Marcelo, calm down. Isn't the rescue coming today? Maybe it was just some starving person who ate it in a moment of madness. It's no big deal. Once the rescue arrives, we'll have as much as we need." A rugby player patted Marcelo's shoulder, trying to soothe him.
"Yes, Captain, the rescue will definitely come today! There's no need to be so harsh on Cancesa; he's worked hard taking care of everyone." A wounded soldier lying not far away also chimed in optimistically.
The other wounded echoed this sentiment, clearly favoring Cancesa. After all, Cancesa had been taking care of them, and they had encouraged him to open the bar yesterday. Most importantly, they believed that reinforcements would arrive today.
"Fine! Fine! Let's see! Let's see when the rescue will arrive!" Marcelo was trembling with anger. He abruptly shook off his companion's hand, plopped down heavily on the broken chair next to him, turned his head away from everyone, and growled defiantly.
The others also chimed in, trying to comfort Canceza and persuade him to sit down in another corner. At this point, they were all still very optimistic and believed that rescue would arrive soon.
The group sat in the cabin, filled with hope, waiting for rescue and discussing what they would do once they got back.
Lu Mingfei carefully held Nuonuo in his arms, letting her lean against his relatively warm embrace. The two of them quietly stayed in a corner of the cabin, listening to the whispers of those around them filled with longing.
Time, amidst the torment of hope and anxiety, slowly slipped away, second by second.
The sun gradually slanted westward from its zenith, its golden rays turning orange-red. The afternoon passed, and evening arrived, but the rescue helicopter they had been hoping for still hadn't arrived, and some people began to get restless.
"Where's the rescue? Why hasn't it arrived yet?" a wounded man lying on the ground muttered.
"Shut up! Rescue will definitely come! It's just... just delayed on the way!" Someone immediately interrupted him sharply, but the voice didn't sound very confident.
"If the plane really finds us, even if there's no way to rescue us in a short time, why not drop supplies on us? Even just some food or medicine..." The other wounded soldiers also began to question.
"Idiot, that's because if the supplies fall into the snow, we won't be able to get them. Throwing them away is pointless."
"We've been scammed...no one's coming to rescue us..."
"They will find us...they definitely will..."
The crowd split into two factions: one believed that rescue would arrive soon, while the other believed that rescue would not. As time passed, the idea that rescue would not arrive began to gain the upper hand.
Hope began to crumble, fear spread through the cabin, and everyone returned to the state they had been in on the first day. Some people began to scream and howl in terror again.
"Stop arguing! We need to find a way to save ourselves!" Marcelo shouted as he stood up again.
"Save ourselves? How can we save ourselves?! It's all snow-capped mountains outside! How can we possibly escape?!" someone shouted in terror.
"How can we save ourselves! How can we possibly escape!" someone cried out in terror.
"We will all die here! No one can escape!" When hope was completely crushed, fear revealed its most ferocious face, devouring the last glimmer of light.
Just then, a man's voice came from another corner: "If we can find the battery, maybe I can fix the radio."
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone's eyes turned to the man. The man who spoke was the plane's mechanic, the only crew member still alive. However, he had also suffered serious injuries when the plane crashed, and his mental state had been affected, making him somewhat insane. Unexpectedly, he spoke up at this moment.
"Where is the battery?" Marcelo immediately asked the mechanic, while the others also cast hopeful glances his way.
"The battery is at the tail," the mechanic said.
"I understand. If we can find the tail section, we might be saved. Also, a lot of suitcases fell outside the plane before, which might contain warm clothes or even food. So we need to organize an expedition team to find the tail section," Marcelo said firmly, standing up straight.
"Marcelo, you make it sound so simple. The snow outside is so thick that we can't even get ten meters outside the plane. How are we supposed to find the tail section that's crashed some kilometers away? This is practically suicide!" a rugby player said dejectedly.
It wasn't that no one had thought of looking for the lost suitcase, but the waist-deep snow around them kept them trapped in a small area near the cabin.
