The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy
Chapter 109 This is a good thing
Traveling light, Caesar did not bring his main force with him, but simply summoned Mor, Daryl, Glenn, and two or three of the most elite soldiers from each combat squad.
Putting everything else aside, Caesar was still very cautious.
Having a bad feeling in his heart, Caesar was determined to show respect to his opponent.
Instead of driving a heavy truck, Caesar boarded an armored vehicle.
Morales and T-boy were still in the front seats of the armored vehicle. Although they didn't know why they had to go out as soon as they got back, they wisely kept quiet.
Caesar leaned out and said to the dilapidated red pickup truck, "Hershel, you stay behind us."
Hershel's lips trembled slightly, then she nodded. "Okay."
Caesar closed the window and let Morales drive.
At Caesar's request, Mohr and Daryl also boarded an armored vehicle instead of riding motorcycles.
The armored vehicle also carried their respective team's most capable soldiers, filling the entire vehicle.
"What is the boss trying to do?" Moore stroked his chin, completely baffled.
Daryl glanced at Moore but said nothing.
"Did you find your little gadget?" Moore raised an eyebrow.
Daryl's face flushed instantly. He glared at Moore fiercely but didn't say a word.
Moore chuckled. He knew Daryl had emotional shame and would inevitably feel shy when it came to this kind of issue.
There was also an armored vehicle with Glenn, Jimmy, Rick, and Morgan inside.
Rick and Morgan hurriedly donned their combat gear. Rick looked at Glenn in the front seat. "Captain, where are we going?"
Glenn shook his head. "I don't know."
Glenn's gaze then fell on the red pickup truck in front of him, and his mood became much more depressed.
Whatever it is, it will definitely involve the Green family.
There were four armored vehicles in total. The last one carried Frank, Ford, and the core members of their team.
Without the slightest delay, the four armored vehicles sped off towards Green Farm.
Squeezed in the middle of the small red pickup truck, Hershel glanced at his bewildered daughter Beth with a complex expression.
Why did Caesar choose to take Beth home as soon as he saw her? And why did he bring along the captains of each combat squad?
This is clearly not right, especially considering that I just introduced the two of them.
Herschel couldn't help but come to a terrible conclusion: was she going to lose two daughters in a row?
But Beth is still a child, even though she's already eighteen.
As for Jimmy, Hershel didn't take their relationship seriously at all. Even at his age, he could tell at a glance that Jimmy and Beth had a purely platonic sibling relationship.
The two were just young and couldn't tell the difference, and they had no intention of doing anything outrageous.
Beth opened the car window, the wind blowing her playful hair across her forehead, and looked at the armored vehicle next to her.
Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, the armored vehicle shone brightly, making even the cold, heavy machine guns appear much warmer.
Regardless of what everyone was thinking, the convoy quickly approached Green Farm.
Caesar's armored vehicle was at the forefront; he was on high alert from the start and was the first to notice the thick smoke on the horizon.
Someone is burning something. From this angle, could it be Green Farm that's burning down?
Caesar compared the directions and confirmed that his guess was correct.
Picking up the walkie-talkie, Caesar spoke quickly and clearly: "Green Farm has been attacked. It's uncertain whether the enemy has left. Maintain combat posture and prepare for battle."
After speaking, Caesar inspected his weapon, his gaze icy.
That's incredibly bold! Green Farm is mine!
How dare you touch my stuff! I'll kill you all!
Leave no one alive!!!
Hershel listened to the voice on the walkie-talkie, his mouth slightly open, his eyes somewhat vacant, and his hands and feet icy cold.
The farm...was attacked?
Who? Why are they attacking us?
We are just farming and living a good life, why are we being attacked?
Why?
"Dad, calm down." Beth patted Hershel, snapping him out of his daze. "We haven't seen Maggie and the others yet. What if they're alright?"
Beth tried to intervene, knowing the chances were slim, but she didn't want to lose hope. Her lips twitched, and tears welled in her eyes.
Hershel snapped out of her daze, quickly steadied the steering wheel, glanced at Beth, patted her hand, and felt the coldness of her daughter's palm.
"It's okay, it's okay. Everything will be alright."
Hershel tried to remain calm, though it was unclear whether she was trying to comfort Beth or herself.
Glenn was equally shaken; he had only recently confirmed his relationship with Maggie.
The two were deeply in love at the time.
Jimmy glanced at Glenn with concern, but he said nothing. He knew Glenn needed to process this on his own.
Glenn stared directly at the thick smoke, gripping the steering wheel harder until his knuckles turned white, and unconsciously pressed down on the accelerator.
The convoy picked up speed and quickly approached Green Farm.
The iron gate of Green Farm has long since disappeared, leaving only lonely wooden posts on both sides, and several broken pieces left by vehicles crashing around it.
Not far away, the huge house that the Green family had passed down for generations was also burning silently. The wooden frame was still standing, but the outer shell had been almost completely burned away.
The stables, cattle sheds, and chicken coops had long since collapsed, and flames burned in the ruins.
Even the barn was not spared. The barn door was wide open, and there were many sprays of blood on the ground. Several charred corpses covered in flames were walking forward with difficulty.
The zombie hadn't gone more than a few steps when it collapsed to the ground and was quickly burned to a crisp.
The barn groaned under the strain and collapsed with a loud bang, turning into a pile of ruins.
The convoy entered Green Farm.
Caesar, with his sharp eyes, spotted a corpse lying not far away in front of the house, which was now just a burning skeleton. Judging from the clothes, it looked like a man's.
As the convoy approached the body, the vehicles screeched to a halt.
Beth sobbed as she rushed toward the body, which was none other than Jimmy, Hershel's neighbor's child.
"Jimmy, Jimmy?"
"What's wrong with you, Jimmy? Please, please pay attention to me. Don't act like Mom!"
"Ah... Jimmy?"
Beth cried almost pleadingly. Jimmy lay motionless on the ground, covered in bruises from being beaten, with a bullet hole in his back from which blood had stopped flowing, and his eyes were wide open.
Hershel stepped forward with a sorrowful expression and sighed, "Jimmy, I'm sorry to your parents. I didn't do what I should have done."
A strong sense of responsibility weighed on Herschel's shoulders. He looked up blankly and glanced around, but he didn't see Otis, Patricia, or his daughter.
He breathed a shameful sigh of relief; thankfully, it was only Jimmy, not Maggie and the others.
But is this a good thing?
