Harry Potter, the savior of Night City
Chapter 76 The Great Memory Extraction Technique
"Where do you want to go?"
Harry smiled kindly, his finger on the trigger, ready to blow the ugly goblin's head off if he said the slightest mistake.
"Dobby, Dobby has finally, finally found Harry, found Harry Potter!" The elf looked at Harry's face and didn't show any fear, but was overjoyed, almost to the point of tears.
"Are you looking for me?" Harry asked, puzzled. He couldn't recall ever having any particularly close relationship with any goblin.
"Yes, Dobby doesn't want Harry Potter to go back to school. It would be dangerous for Harry Potter to go back." Dobby didn't explain, continuing on his own, "Dobby couldn't find you, so he sealed off the wall to keep Harry from going to school, but that wretched headmaster, he let Harry in!"
"You did this wall? Why?" This time Harry was stunned. No, why would this guy do something like this? Is someone trying to cause trouble for him? But he wouldn't use such a simple method, would he?
"Harry Potter is in danger! The school is in danger! Dobby can't let Harry go back to school!" Dobby's baseball-sized eyes looked at Harry, brimming with tears. "Dobby has been searching for Mr. Harry for so long, just wanting him to be out of danger!"
Harry turned to look at the bombardment team that Professor McGonagall had summoned outside the stairwell, then back at Dobby, his finger pressing harder on the trigger. "I have a feeling you'd love for me to die."
"No, no, Dobby just wanted Mr. to get injured so he could go home, escape danger, and get away from the secret room..."
Dobby seemed to have said something taboo, and suddenly froze. Then he grabbed his head and slammed it hard against Harry's golden hand. Harry let go and let Dobby fall to the ground. Then he watched as the goblin in front of him held his head and slammed it against the wooden pillar, muttering, "Bad Dobby, bad Dobby."
"A locked room—that's a great clue."
A voice rang in Harry's ear, and Harry turned around and saw a Hogwarts Street hustler.
"Dumbledore, you knew about this guy a long time ago, otherwise you wouldn't have come so quickly," Harry said, looking at Dumbledore.
"That's true. I noticed it as soon as it entered the school, but I didn't know what it wanted, so I kept an eye on it," Dumbledore readily admitted. Then, he turned to Dobby, who was banging his head against the wall, and said, "Dobby, can you tell us what the Chamber of Secrets is?"
"Dobby can't say, Dobby can't say!" Dobby hugged himself, his body trembling like a leaf.
"Then let me ask you a different question, Dobby. Can you tell Harry about the dangers he should be careful of?"
"The black villains make snake-like sounds!" Dodo finally said something useful, but the bad news was that they already knew this information.
"These are house-elves; they cannot disobey their master's commands," Dumbledore said, realizing he wouldn't be able to get much information from Dobby.
"Who on earth would like to use such ugly things?" Harry couldn't understand. He genuinely couldn't stand these goblin-like creatures; they were too ugly. "Then, how can we find out where the Chamber of Secrets is?"
"I have a good idea, though it's inhumane," Dumbledore said. He would usually consider inhumane methods when dealing with creatures that were otherwise decent.
"Then use it quickly." Harry didn't have any feelings about inhumanity. He put Yinglong back, lifted Dobby by the back of his neck with his right hand, opened the exhaust port on the golden hand, opened the baffle to reveal the hydraulic rod inside, and chopped it hard on Dobby's side of his neck, letting Dobby fall asleep peacefully.
"Don't kill it, it's very useful." Dumbledore gave Harry a reproachful look.
"Don't worry, I won't kill him. I held back a bit." Harry tossed Dobby to Dumbledore.
Dumbledore placed Dobby on the ground, drew his wand, pressed the tip against Dobby's temple, and then pulled hard, drawing a strand of silvery-white thread from Dobby's brain. He then took out a specially made bottle from his pocket and put the thread inside.
"Alright, these are its memories." Dumbledore picked up the bottle containing the memories, which were still hitting the bottle walls, trying to return to Dobby.
"Alright, so now..."
"Harry! And Professor Dumbledore...?" Ron arrived with Professor McGonagall, looking at the two in front of him with a bewildered expression.
"It's all taken care of, don't worry," Dumbledore said with a smile. He then picked up Dobby from the ground and placed his other hand on Harry's shoulder. "I need to speak with Harry about something." Dumbledore then used his privilege as headmaster to Apparate Harry and Dobby to the headmaster's office.
"Alright, Harry, put Dobby on the chair. I have something to show you," Dumbledore said to Harry, who was still a little dazed. Harry wasn't quite used to Apparition.
Dumbledore walked to the bookcase, reached under it, opened the bottom shelf, and a plate floated out, containing an unknown liquid.
"The Pensieve allows you to see the memories you put in," Dumbledore explained to Harry. "By putting a small piece of memory in, you can see what it's trying to hide."
As he spoke, Dumbledore poured the memories from the small bottle in his hand into the Pensieve. The silvery strands of memories merged into the Pensieve, creating ripples in the seemingly shallow liquid.
"Alright, Harry, now put your head in." With that, he demonstrated to Harry by immersing his face in the Pensieve.
Harry did as instructed, and then he felt a peculiar coolness envelop his head. He felt his consciousness sinking deeper and deeper, and finally, he saw some black and silver things mixed together and coalescing into a manor. His and Dumbledore's bodies also coalesced.
"Wow, this is pretty good," Harry exclaimed, surprised to see Mewtwo in the 20th century.
"The Pensieve is a wonderful thing, but unfortunately there's no one left who knows how to make it," Dumbledore said regretfully. This Pensieve was passed down from headmaster to headmaster and is now unknown how many years old it is. He looked around at the surroundings and confirmed the situation.
"Malfoy Manor, it seems our Mr. Dobby is one of the Malfoys," Dumbledore said, beckoning Harry. "Come on, Harry, let's see what the Malfoys have in store for us."
Harry followed Dumbledore to the manor gate. Without pushing the door open, he walked straight through the wall and entered. He saw Lucius Malfoy holding a black notebook, his brow furrowed, as if he was thinking about something.
