Harry Potter, the savior of Night City
Chapter 3 Who says this wand is bad? This wand is fantastic!
"Welcome, welcome to Diagon Alley, Harry."
Hagrid grinned at Harry, who was staring at the brick wall, put a hand on Harry's back, and half-pushed Harry into the archway. Harry looked back and found that the archway had turned back into a brick wall.
"Hagrid, what's wrong with those guys? They're all like fucking perverts," Harry said, speechless.
"Oh, Harry, you're very famous. In the entire wizarding world, practically everyone except newborn babies knows you."
"Huh?" Harry looked at Hagrid, puzzled.
"Didn't your aunt and uncle tell you? Oh, those wretched old Muggles, they even tried to deny you living in their house. Well, anyway, you somehow managed to take down the biggest villain in the wizarding world, and now the wizarding world is at peace, all thanks to you."
"Where did I get an aunt and uncle?" The more Hagrid explained, the more confused Harry became, having no idea what he was talking about.
"Oh Harry, I know you hate them, but don't worry, I've already taught them a lesson."
Harry decided to shut up and go shopping, otherwise he would only make his head spin even more.
The street was narrow and crowded with shops selling all sorts of things. Perhaps because school was about to start, there weren't many people around.
Harry looked at these novel things with curiosity: cauldrons, brooms, and even the animals he had shot into a sieve as soon as he arrived were for sale. According to the sign, this thing seemed to be called an owl.
"We'll buy those things later; right now we need to get your money," Hagrid said to Harry, turning his head slightly.
"Withdraw money? What money?" Harry was very confused. Where did he get 1991 British currency?
"You don't think your parents left you nothing, do you?" Hagrid smiled mysteriously.
Harry was even more confused. In his memory, he had always grown up in Night City. The priest said that he had been adopted by the priest. So what was the situation with his parents in 1991?
Harry was puzzled, Harry pondered, Harry gave up, he decided to follow Hagrid to see what was going on. They came to a crooked, snow-white building, and in front of the building's bronze doors stood a short, humanoid creature dressed in a scarlet, gold-trimmed uniform.
"We've arrived at Gringotts, the wizards' bank," Hagrid explained to Harry. "That guy's a goblin, and Gringotts is run by them."
Harry glanced at the goblin a few more times; his strange appearance sent chills down his spine. "Damn ugly," Harry muttered. The goblin looked at Harry with displeasure, but still gave them a slight bow as they approached.
Two goblins led them into the hall, where a hundred or so goblins busily weighed coins and examined gems. Harry and Hagrid went straight to the counter.
"We need to take some money from Mr. Harry Potter's vault," Hagrid said to the goblin behind the counter.
"Do you have his key, sir?"
"Here it is." Hagrid pulled a key from his pocket and scattered a few moldy dog biscuits on the goblin's ledger.
"No problem." The fairy examined it carefully.
"I also have a letter from Professor Dumbledore about that thing in Vault 713," Hagrid whispered, sticking his big head against the wall, though he barely silenced himself.
The fairy took the letter, examined it carefully, nodded, returned it to Hagrid, and called out behind him, "Pull-ring!"
A young goblin came over and led Harry and the others out of the hall to a narrow stone gallery with a railway running downwards. The rings whistled, and a small car rushed toward them. Once they were in the car, they plunged downwards at an even faster speed.
Hagrid's eyes were forced to squint by the cold wind, while Harry stared intently at the vast underground space. He looked at the vaults carved into the walls around the massive stone pillars, and then looked down to see strange flames appearing from nowhere at the bottom of the cave. He thought of the Bible the priest had shown him, and considering that this was a magical world, he seriously suspected that there might be some kind of fire-breathing monster down there.
The cart stopped in front of a small door in the passageway. Hagrid climbed down with difficulty, his legs trembling as he leaned against the stone wall. "Harry, you're amazing. This is the first time I've seen a freshman ride this thing without getting dizzy."
Harry pursed his lips, thinking to himself, "I drove much faster than this when I was blowing up the factory and dodging those rabid NCPD dogs."
His gaze returned to the pull ring, watching it unlock the door. A plume of green smoke billowed out, and Harry gasped when he saw what was inside: "Fuck... Mom and Dad, I love you so much!"
Inside the door were mountains of gold coins, silver bars, and copper coins.
"These are all yours," Hagrid said to Harry with a smile. "Gold coins are called Galleons. Seventeen silver Sickles make one Galleon, and twenty-nine bronze Knuts make one Sickle."
Harry refused Hagrid's offer to help him fill the bag with money, instead filling it himself. "Such a troublesome exchange rate," Harry complained.
They then went to Vault 713 and took a small cloth bag. Harry counted the money in his pocket, showing absolutely no interest in the thing.
"Let's go buy the uniforms first." After coming out, Hagrid pointed to Madam Malkin's Robes Shop. Harry said it didn't matter. They went into the shop, where a witch greeted them.
"Hey darling, are you looking to buy a Hogwarts uniform?" There were hardly any people in the shop. Madam Malkin enthusiastically ushered Harry into the fitting room, quickly helped him try on clothes, and then brought out a robe from what looked like a warehouse.
"You're too late, child. I don't have time to make it for you properly, so I can only give you a ready-made garment. I'll give you a discount on the price this time," Madam Malkin said apologetically to Harry.
Afterwards, they went to Flourish and Blotts and bought piles of textbooks, as well as pewter crucibles, brass telescopes, and other items. Finally, they stopped in front of a run-down little shop whose sign read: Ollivanders: Crafting fine wands since 382 BC.
"Go on, Harry, go buy your first wand." Hagrid shoved Harry inside, smiling mysteriously. "I'm going to buy something."
Harry walked into the store. The store was not very spacious, and the shelves were densely packed with boxes, probably several thousand in total.
"Good afternoon," a soft, slightly aged voice said.
"Fuck you, what the hell is that?!" Harry was startled and pulled out Yinglong from his pocket, ready to fire a burst of bullets at the source of the sound.
"Hey, hey, don't get excited, kid." An old man stepped out, giving a French military salute. "Oh, Harry, I knew I'd see you soon. Your eyes are exactly like your mother's, but your personality is nothing like your parents'."
"Are you the owner of this shop?" Harry withdrew his dragon and stared intently at Ollivander.
"Alright, alright, relax, Mr. Potter." Ollivander waved his hand, and a silver measuring tape flew out, beginning to measure Harry's size. "Which hand are you using?"
"I can use both hands," Harry shrugged.
"Okay, try this one." Ollivander pulled a beechwood, dragon heart, nine inches long, very flexible, give it a swing.
Harry took the wand, swung it, and a red beam shot out like a bullet, breaking one of the shelf's pillars.
"This one, made of maple, with phoenix feathers, seven inches long." Ollivander took the wand from Harry's hand and gave him a new one.
Harry was about to swing it when it was snatched away again. He tried one after another like this, and he was getting impatient. "Old man, isn't it ready yet?"
"Oh, Harry, it is the wand that chooses the wizard, not the wizard that chooses the wand," Ollivander said, pulling a wand from the shelf. "Hollywood, phoenix feather, eleven inches long, an extraordinary combination."
Harry took the wand, but it didn't react at all. Ollivander's eyes widened. "How is this possible?" Ollivander paced back and forth in front of Harry, when suddenly an idea struck him. He ran to the workshop and soon returned with a black spiral wand.
"This is a replica of that legendary wand that I made when I was young, made of elderberry, Thestral tail feathers, and fifteen inches long."
Ollivander handed the wand to Harry, who took it and casually waved it. Instantly, a surge of energy erupted from his body, flowing through each of his prosthetic devices. The refreshing sensation reminded Harry of smoking a sparkling cigarette with vodka at the Afterlife Bar. Blue energy gathered at the tip of his wand, and the dazzling light made Ollivander close his eyes, but he shouted with joy:
"That's wonderful, it's a miracle, it's amazing!"
As the light faded, Harry felt a sense of relief in his prosthetic body; he even had the feeling that he could drive the S.A.S.S. all day long.
"Who says this wand is bad? This wand is fantastic!" Harry stroked the wand, clearly delighted.
"Trust me, Mr. Potter, you will accomplish great things, trust me."
Harry paid Ollivander the money and as he left, he ran into Hagrid carrying a cage.
"Hey Harry, look what this is!" Hagrid laughed, handing the cage to Harry. "A belated birthday present for you!"
Harry took the cage, inside which was a snow-white animal, probably the same species as the one he had killed, likely an owl. Looking at the snow-white owl, he felt an overwhelming fondness for the animal.
"Oh, she's so beautiful. Thank you, Hagrid, thank you." Hagrid teased it with his wand. "I'm going to call her Hedwig."
"That's a good name, Harry," Hagrid said with a smile, placing his hand on Harry's shoulder.
