Lord of Mysteries: Taiyi
Chapter 49 Klein's Perspective
Tingen City, Blackthorn Security Company.
Today, Klein reviewed the Night Watchers' internal intelligence about the secret organization and discovered that the Gnostic Society had the names of Sequence Nine and Sequence Eight of the Assassin's Path. Based on Emperor Roselle's diary, he deduced that this organization must be related to the Witch Cult. He also obtained information about the Morse Penitentiary through official channels.
He also discovered an intriguing detail: in recent data, he found a little-known organization called the "Truth Society," a secretive research-oriented group. Their Sequence Nine is called "Clockmaker," and their abilities are unknown. The names of the other Sequences are unknown; it seems to be an organization that emerged only in the last two hundred years.
Could "Lover" be a member of this organization? But he doesn't seem as powerful as other clandestine groups...
He had been learning from Old Neil for the past two days and had come to regard this humorous and reliable old man as trustworthy. Thinking back to the knowledge and information he gained after the tarot reading of that unknown entity after the last tarot meeting, he realized that Old Neil might be out of control! Moreover, he now suspected that Old Neil might have been bewitched and manipulated and could turn into a monster at any time, threatening him and the Night Watch team.
He decided to tell the captain what he had seen that day—the pupilless eye and the suspicious shadow…
He activated his spiritual vision at the bottom of the company building, consuming his spiritual energy while simultaneously practicing it. He indeed did not see the scene from that day again...
After saying goodbye to Old Neil, Klein went straight to Dunn's office and knocked on the door.
"Please come in."
Dunn's deep voice rang out, and Klein took a deep breath, opened the door, and went inside.
Dunn raised his deep gray eyes, looking at the prospective team member who hadn't yet become a full member with a question in his mind. He touched his receding hairline and asked:
"Klein? What's wrong?"
Klein feigned some fear and said:
"Captain, while practicing my spiritual vision today, I saw an eye without eyebrows or pupils. Did I see something I shouldn't have?"
Dunn frowned, his expression turned serious, and he straightened his back slightly before speaking in a steady voice:
Where did you practice your clairvoyance?
Klein "truthfully" stated:
"Right here, when I was learning from Old Neil, during my first practice of clairvoyance, Old Neil told me that there wouldn't be any wild spirits at the bottom of the church, so I..."
Klein paused here, as if remembering something, before continuing:
"After I drank the potion for the first time, I saw the same thing in the church as today, but Old Neil told me that it's normal to see things right after drinking the potion..."
"Captain, do I need an exorcism? Or am I being overly cautious?" Klein behaved in a manner typical of a novice just entering the world of mysticism.
Dunn rubbed his temples and said calmly:
Are you feeling dizzy or hearing strange talking?
Seeing that the captain was even becoming wary of him, Klein felt that his goal had been achieved and that the captain had begun to take the matter seriously... He had only told what he had seen, without pointing the finger at Old Neil, but simply recounting the facts of that day, including the fabricated story that only Old Neil was with him this time and last time. The captain would definitely notice this.
Klein honestly shook his head and said:
"No, I feel fine, it's just that that eye has appeared twice already..."
Dunn nodded and said:
"Then there shouldn't be any major problems. You can take the day off today and go back to rest. I will organize people to clean up the spirit creatures underground. You must report to me if you experience any abnormalities afterward."
Klein was about to nod when he suddenly felt a wave of dizziness before snapping back to reality. He smiled wryly to himself, thinking, "The captain is really something. I've been pulled into a dream without even realizing it."
Still in the office in his dream, Klein looked at the captain with a somewhat confused expression. Just as he was about to get up and leave the office, he suddenly heard the captain say:
"Wait a minute, there's one more thing."
Klein turned around somewhat slowly, and to match the scene in his dream, he smiled and said:
"Captain, you have a bad memory in this area. You always forget to tell people things. Maybe you need to take a break."
Dunn paused for a moment in the dream, but didn't dwell on it. He just felt that Klein tended to reveal things he usually kept to himself when he entered a dream. He cut to the chase:
"What do you think of old Neil?"
Sure enough, they started to suspect old Neil. Klein spoke up:
"He's an interesting old man, unpretentious, kind, straightforward, and very experienced..."
Dunn nodded and continued to ask:
Tell me what happened to you today.
Klein pretended to think for a moment, then replied:
"I got up this morning to cook for my sister, then took a horse-drawn carriage to Blackthorn Security Company. I saw Rosanne slacking off. Then Old Neil made me study some information about secret organizations. While Old Neil was making coffee, I practiced my clairvoyance and saw the same eyes and shadows next to Old Neil as last time. I was very worried, so I came to report this to you."
Dunn nodded and asked:
"Why didn't you tell Old Neil, and why did you hide the eye from Old Neil just now?"
Klein, with a somewhat worried and frightened expression, began to speak:
"Old Neil told me that it was just a normal phenomenon, and it happened behind Old Neil twice, which scared me a bit. However, I couldn't be sure if it was related to Old Neil. I kept it from you in order to maintain a good working relationship. I believe you can definitely find out the problem, and you are definitely more professional than me in handling these things. Of course, that's secondary. What I'm afraid is that I'm really being haunted by something."
Dunn rubbed his temples, nodded, and asked again:
Are you sure there are no abnormalities in your body right now?
Klein nodded and said:
"I just felt a bit spiritually drained, but nothing else."
His mind went blank again, but Klein knew he had returned to reality. He saw Dunn raise his head and stare at him with his deep gray eyes.
Klein feigned confusion, then adopted the posture of someone caught lying, bowing his head in apology:
"I'm sorry, Captain, I just..."
Dunn interrupted Klein and said gently:
"No need to apologize. What you did would be perfectly acceptable to an ordinary person, but Klein, you are no longer an ordinary person..."
"We are the Guardians. You, Old Neil, me, and all the Night Watchers should be teammates we can entrust our backs to."
"We're also a bunch of pathetic creatures constantly battling madness... Our trusted teammates can also go out of control and turn into insane monsters at any moment! You have to be mentally prepared."
Dunn took a deep drag on his pipe before slowly beginning to speak:
"Afterwards, report to me immediately if you find anything unusual about your teammates. If I become abnormal, report to the Holy Church or other churches immediately. If the situation gets out of control... Eliminate the monster, eliminate the madness, and protect Tingen."
A clap of thunder ripped through the sky, illuminating the somewhat dim office for a moment, before the rain poured down.
……
Klein suddenly took seriously the anomaly he had seen when he was promoted to diviner, and reported it to Dunn today, who took it very seriously.
After further investigation, Dunn discovered that Old Neil had been bewitched by the Hidden Sage and successfully prevented Old Neil from losing control...
A quill pen stood upright in mid-air, writing on a piece of paper. Halfway through, a hand reached out from the shadows, grabbed the quill pen, and erased the next line...
