Lord of Mysteries: Taiyi
Chapter 44 We Were Originally Very Happy
Backlund, East End, somewhere on Iron Street, Lucy's family.
Hearing the drunkard's wails outside, the wooden door finally opened a crack, revealing half of the beautiful woman's face. Looking outside, she saw the man lying on the ground, writhing in pain.
Seeing the door open, Kurt thought he'd knock the annoying guy at his feet unconscious first. Just then, the drunkard also noticed the door was open and shouted again:
"You owe me money and you're still looking for someone else? Bah! You're just letting others benefit too..." Kurt frowned and knocked the drunken man unconscious.
Only then did the woman dare to open the wooden door, her hands trembling slightly, holding a broom in her other hand.
Kurt finally got a good look at her: long, slightly dry brown hair, a few wrinkles on her smooth face, and gray eyes that still held a glimmer of light. Before she could speak, the two sisters who had been hiding behind her recognized him.
Lucy, her face streaked with tears, showed a look of surprise. She was about to come over when her mother, Claire, stopped her. The slender woman stood in front of her daughter and said to Kurt:
"Thank you, sir. But we really don't have any money to give you. When we first moved here, Bly gave us half a loaf of bread, and then insisted that we owed him £20 in cash. He's been harassing us lately."
Kurt nodded as he listened to Claire's words, having roughly understood what was going on. He smiled and glanced at Lucy behind her, who was clutching the seed tightly, and said:
"Let me introduce myself, Kurt Bud. I funded the night school your daughter attends. I'm not so bored as to try and extort money from you."
As he spoke, he displayed the expensive walking stick and the exquisite watch, which he had prepared to avoid arguing with the police.
Claire glanced at it and finally lowered her guard slightly. She had thought that the other side might be conspiring to sabotage her.
Kurt gave Lucy a look, and Lucy understood immediately, also speaking up to testify:
"Mom, he's Mr. Kurt, the teacher who gave us bread and paper and pens for free."
Hearing her daughter say this, Claire relaxed, then looked at the drunkard lying on the ground with some concern and asked:
"What will he do?"
Psychic, kill him or send him to the police station... Kurt thought silently.
Hugh then said to Kurt:
"You can go in now. I'll stay here and watch over them. We'll take them to the police station later."
Seeing that the people in front of her wanted to enter their home, Claire suddenly felt uneasy and could only hesitate before saying:
My husband has recently fallen ill...
So that's how it is... Kurt shook his head and said:
"It's okay, maybe I can find him a good doctor and give you a job."
Seeing the confusion and a glimmer of hope on the face of Claire, the still beautiful woman, Kurt smiled and added:
"I'm a philanthropist who isn't exactly wealthy, but since I've come across this, I'll help."
Claire eventually relented and allowed Kurt into the dimly lit room, after which Claire lit a candle.
She pulled out the only chair in the house and gave it to Kurt.
Kurt didn't sit down, but asked:
Where is your husband?
He knew her husband was in a small cubicle behind them, since that was their only two rooms, but he still asked.
Claire said, seemingly with some sadness:
He has been unconscious for two days...
"My family used to live in the Joewood district. I was a typist at a company, and Kuhn was an economic consultant for an import and export company. A month ago, Kuhn was framed, which led to our bankruptcy, and we had no choice but to move here. Kuhn's health deteriorated recently, and I also lost my job because of the distance. My two children also lost their opportunity to study."
"Recently, Fran and I have been making a living by washing clothes for others, but thankfully your school allows Lucy to continue her studies, and it's free. We are very grateful to you... We plan to find new jobs after Kuhn gets better."
The mother seemed to have found an emotional outlet, and she spoke haltingly, eventually breaking down in sobs. Her two children, affected by her emotions, also began to cry softly.
"We are clearly very happy."
Kurt's expression darkened slightly, and he activated his spiritual vision, speaking gently to Claire:
"Take me to see Kuhn. I am a priest from the Church of Mother Earth. I can treat some illnesses."
Claire hesitated for a moment, then took the candle and led Kurt into the small cubicle, where they found only a single bed and two simple makeshift beds on the floor.
Kurt carefully walked around the thin blankets on the floor and came to the single bed.
He saw the person on the bed and frowned. In the dim candlelight lay a pale-faced middle-aged man, probably in his forties, with a mustache that now looked slightly droopy.
His lips were purple, and his black hair was dry. Most importantly, in Kurt's psychic vision, Kuhn's spirit was shrouded in black smoke...
"It's been cursed..." Kurt performed a token check and casually asked:
Have you been in contact with any strange people lately?
Claire, who was guarding the door, recalled somewhat uneasily:
"A strange man did come 10 days ago, a missionary, who recommended his faith to us, the true Creator! Kuhn drove him away."
At this point, Claire seemed to remember something and continued:
"Kuhn started getting sick after that person left. Could it be that person's doing?"
Kut nodded and said in a very priestly manner:
"Kuhn is probably cursed by him."
Claire paused for a moment, opened her mouth but didn't say anything.
Kurt raised an eyebrow. It seemed this family were only superficial believers; they probably didn't believe in the existence of supernatural beings. Kurt had no choice but to continue:
"My other identity is a priest of the Church of Mother Earth. How should I put it? Those cultists use strange powders or potions to spread diseases and disasters in order to please the evil god."
After saying this, Kurt crossed his arms, assuming a posture as if holding a baby, and looked reverently at Claire, saying:
"As a mother's guardian, I will save every life. I can try to exorcise Kuhn."
He had expected Claire to refuse first, since he now resembled a conman, but to Kurt's slight surprise, Claire lowered her eyes and readily agreed:
"Thank you for your help."
Kurt paused for a moment, then understood. They seemed to have given up hope of Kuhn's recovery; they didn't have the money for treatment, and Kuhn's condition wouldn't last much longer…
Afterwards, Kurt asked them and the bedding to leave, and he also asked for a few candles.
The door to the cubicle was closed, spiritual powder prepared in the clothing was sprinkled in, the entire cubicle was sealed off, and then candles were placed...
He finally prayed to the Earth Mother Goddess to purify the curse.
A beam of green light, symbolizing life, shone upon Kuhn. When the ritual ended, Kut activated his spiritual vision and discovered that the curse had vanished, along with all of Kuhn's illnesses, leaving him exceptionally healthy.
Kurt raised an eyebrow, crossed his arms, and sincerely praised:
"Praise be to the Mother Goddess, praise be to the Mother."
He then tidied up the scene, glanced at Kuhn whose breathing had stabilized, and used the tip of the pure silver pendant to unlock the spiritual space and open the door.
Three pairs of eyes immediately fell on him, eyes filled with anticipation and trepidation.
Kurt handed them back three candles, looking at them with a smile:
"Let us praise the Mother Goddess, Mr. Kuhn is alright now."
Claire didn't speak, but rushed into the cubicle with some confusion, followed by her two daughters. Kurt wasn't in a hurry. He sat down in a chair and quietly took out several small glass bottles containing purified water. Kurt then added some harmless night-blooming jasmine powder. Using his "divinely bestowed" abilities, he was creating some "potions" that would enhance immunity.
In the cubicle, Claire saw Kuhn's rosy cheeks and even breathing, and covered her mouth, sobbing softly. When Kuhn woke up, she finally couldn't hold back and hugged her husband, crying loudly.
"Goddess, oh no, Mother Goddess, Kuhn, you haven't abandoned us..."
Kurt heard the crying, sighed, and was about to call Hugh in as well. But then a commotion broke out outside the door.
"What's going on here?"
