Chapter 76 The shed
As soon as Lux pushed open the door behind the portrait of the fat lady, she was rushed into a hug by a figure. Vera was still clutching an open spellbook in her hand, her light gray-blue eyes full of anxiety, and even the owl Amber in her arms cooed twice uneasily.
"Lax! Where did you go?" Vera hugged her arm tightly.
"I went to the classroom to look for you this morning, but you weren't there. I went to the Great Hall for lunch, but I didn't see you there either. I even asked Anna, and she said you went out early this morning. They said you've been hanging out with Malena from Slytherin a lot lately, and I thought you..."
"You thought I'd been kidnapped by Malena and taken to the Slytherin dungeons?" Lux chuckled, patting her back. Her fluorescent green hair brushed against Vera's cheek, causing her to shrink back.
"Don't worry, I just went to Hogsmeade for a stroll and bought a lot of things." Lux held up the bag of candy in her arms. The zipper wasn't fully closed, and a few chocolate frogs were peeking out from the gap, their wrappers gleaming with gold.
Vera's attention wasn't on the candy. She lowered her head, her fingers unconsciously tugging at her sleeve. "No... I was worried about you, and..."
She paused, lowering her voice even further, "And the day after tomorrow is the full moon. This is the first time I've celebrated a full moon at Hogwarts. I'm afraid... I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself when I transform and will hurt someone."
Lux stopped smiling and pulled Vera to sit in the armchair by the fireplace. Lumi jumped out of the wicker basket and curled up on Vera's lap, her furry body warm and cozy.
"What are you afraid of? We have the wolfsbane potion." Lux took a lemon hard candy from the candy bag and stuffed it into Vera's mouth. "We'll go to Professor Slughorn tomorrow morning to get the potion. And I've already decided that I'll go to Professor Dumbledore in a little while and ask him for a safe place specifically for your full moon celebration, where I guarantee no one will disturb us."
Although the Room of Requirement can provide a suitable environment, it is still inside Hogwarts, and if someone accidentally sees you, it could cause a lot of trouble.
Vera, with a candy in her mouth, felt the sweet and sour taste relax her tense shoulders a little: "Will we really be able to find a place? There are so many people at Hogwarts, what if we get discovered..."
"Don't worry, Professor Dumbledore loves his students the most, he'll definitely find a way." Lux patted her hand, stood up and grabbed the wicker basket. "Wait here for me, I'm going to my office, I'll be right back."
She had just reached the top of the stairs when she bumped into Minerva McGonagall, who was carrying a pile of assignments. McGonagall stared at her green hair, her brow furrowing almost imperceptibly: "Lux, what's wrong with your hair again?"
"Uh...stylish!" Lux gave a thumbs up. "The most popular color in Hogsmeade this year is fluorescent green. McGonagall, do you want to try it? I have some hair dye powder, berry scented!"
McGonagall shook her head helplessly: "You went to Hogsmeade. I advise you to come back as soon as possible, otherwise the professor will nag you again. By the way, are you going to your office? Professor Dumbledore is there. He just came back from the Ministry of Magic."
Lux's eyes lit up, and she followed McGonagall upstairs.
The office door wasn't closed properly, and the sound of turning pages could be heard inside. McGonagall knocked, opened the door, and called out, "Professor, Miss Lux is looking for you."
Dumbledore was sitting behind his desk, holding a silver hourglass. When he saw Lux enter, he smiled and pointed to the chair opposite him: "Sit down, Miss Lux. I heard you went to Hogsmeade today. The elves told me that two students came out of a secret passage in the kitchen."
"Professor, you're really well-informed!" Lux found a soft chair and sat down.
"I'm here today to tell you something. Vera is a werewolf, and the full moon is the day after tomorrow. I want to find a safe place for her to spend the full moon, so that she won't hurt anyone, and also because I'm afraid she'll be scared."
Dumbledore put down the hourglass and tapped his fingers lightly on the table: "A werewolf student, that is indeed a problem. Hogwarts has never accepted a werewolf student."
He paused, then suddenly remembered something. "I just remembered a place. There's an abandoned shack outside Hogsmeade. It's my family's old house, originally meant for Aberforth, but he didn't want my things, so it's been empty ever since. It's a secluded place, not many people around, so it's very safe."
Lux recalled for a moment, "The abandoned shacks of Hogsmeade? Isn't that the Screaming Shack that Lupin will use in the future? She actually revitalized this place ahead of time?"
"Professor, how do we get to the shed? Vera might not be able to walk when she transforms..."
Hogwarts had not yet planted the Whomping Willow, so there was no secret passage. How to get Vera there was also a problem.
"Don't worry about that." Dumbledore picked up his wand and drew a circle in the air, a pale golden streak of light appearing. "I can build a secret passage from outside Hogwarts, which can be opened with the 'Unimpeded Passage' spell. I will also place protective charms around the shacks to prevent outsiders from getting close and to block out sounds from inside."
"Great!" Lux jumped up. "Can we start decorating tomorrow? I want to add some things to the shed so no one can break in."
Dumbledore smiled and nodded: "Of course. Tomorrow morning I'll have the house-elves prepare the tools. We'll go to Professor Slughorn's to get the wolfsbane potion first, and then we'll go to the shed together."
The next morning, Lark and Vera arrived at Slughorn's office on time. Slughorn was sitting in front of a cauldron, stirring a pot of pale green liquid. Hearing footsteps, he turned around and saw them, his face immediately lighting up with a smile: "Ah, my little genius has arrived! Miss Vera, I've prepared your wolfsbane potion."
He took several crystal bottles from the shelf, filled with a pale blue liquid: "Drink one cup a day, as before, for three consecutive days. You'll be able to stay awake on the full moon. Remember, don't eat anything sweet after drinking it, as it will affect the medicine's effectiveness. As for the candy Miss Lux bought, you can eat it after the full moon."
Vera took the crystal bottle, carefully tucked it into her bosom, and whispered, "Thank you, Professor."
Lux stared at the liquid in the crucible and asked curiously, "Professor, what kind of potion are you making? The color is so strange."
"Oh, this," Slughorn smiled mysteriously, "It's a potion made for the Ministry of Magic. Well, aren't you going to the shacks? Dumbledore should already be waiting for you at the castle gate."
The two thanked Slughorn and hurried toward the castle gate.
Dumbledore was indeed there, accompanied by two house-elves.
"Let's go, we'll use Apparition to get to Hogsmeade, it's much faster than walking."
Dumbledore pulled the two of them along, and after a dizzying spin, they landed in an open area outside Hogsmeade Village.
