Chapter 633 Mutants also practice the caste system?
It was already evening, but they were still tending to the flowers. Logan almost immediately realized that those flowers might be the Krako flowers that Rune had mentioned.
"Who are they—?" Logan looked at Andrei, his voice lowering.
"They're the gardeners. Krakow needs someone to take care of these chores, and they're very capable," Andrei explained casually. Then he turned and walked toward the city not far away. "Come on, I'll take you to rest for the night."
Logan squinted, but he still chose to go with Andre to see Judd. Later, at Logan's insistence, Judd and Asley agreed to sleep with him that night.
"Dad!" Ashley pouted, glaring angrily at her father. She didn't understand why Logan would do this; she wanted to have some fun!
"Listen, no matter what happens tonight, don't go out. Go to sleep now!" Logan looked at Asley seriously, then at Judd. Rune had just left with a mutant, and now he didn't trust anyone except his two daughters.
Logan's seriousness silenced Ashley and Judd, who immediately went to bed and fell asleep while praying.
Logan, however, tossed and turned, unable to sleep. In the end, he decided to go out that night to find out everything.
It was already past midnight.
Logan darted into the forest like a cheetah, his footsteps so light that the seemingly emotionless mutants barely noticed his presence.
A few mutants with heightened senses occasionally glanced in Logan's direction, but said nothing.
That's not their responsibility, and they can't stop them.
Logan soon arrived at the city center and quickly noticed an unusual sound. He turned around and saw a square with a statue of Professor X in the center.
Wait a minute—that's Charles without a wheelchair? That's really rare!
Logan sighed inwardly as he lurked in the shadows of the sculpture.
He had intended to find out the source of the noise, but after a short while, the sculpture flipped itself over, revealing an entrance leading underground.
At the entrance, two figures in uniforms stood motionless, watching the mutants, also dressed in gray uniforms, walk in from a distance.
After they all went down, Logan immediately swaggered up to the two guards.
"Halt! Entry into the area ahead is prohibited!" one of the guards said expressionlessly, while the other guard immediately assumed a fighting stance, trying to intimidate Wolverine.
However—if there are only two of them, isn't that underestimating Wolverine? Logan isn't easily intimidated! He licked his lips, a hint of excitement flashing in his eyes.
After easily taking care of the two guards, Logan immediately slipped into the underground passage and followed his instincts forward. The deeper he went, the more creepy he felt.
The inner wall of the passage was immediately covered with strange, glowing patterns. Inlaid between the patterns were fine energy conduits, and pale purple and dark red energy liquids flowed at a constant speed inside the conduits, emitting fluctuations that made him very uncomfortable.
The level of technology here far exceeded his expectations, but Logan's expression grew increasingly grim.
After defeating the Imitation Man and Crossbones with all his might, Logan could clearly sense that his abilities were returning, but this was not a good thing, especially now.
This place felt to him like a terrifying prison where the Weapon X program was being carried out.
After walking about a hundred meters and passing through countless forks in the road, the passage in front of Logan suddenly opened up.
A huge underground space appeared before Logan's eyes. A holographic control panel suspended in the air was constantly refreshing data, and robotic arms were precisely grabbing various materials, working in coordination with the figures in gray uniforms.
Countless indifferent figures were busy at work. Some were operating anti-gravity hovercars to transport radioactive ore, some were adjusting dangerous energy instruments on the control panel, and others were undergoing excessive physical training in the fully automated training cabin.
Logan's infiltration was difficult; he struggled to completely avoid these strange mutants, but fortunately, they didn't say much, acting as if it was none of their business. Soon, he reached the depths of the facility.
Deep underground, a figure stood before a row of transparent incubation chambers. His entire body shone with a golden light; Logan recognized them—these were Omega-level mutant elixirs.
The elixir can control the molecular structure of one's own and others' bodies, and theoretically can rewrite the genetic structure at will.
He can not only heal physical injuries to himself or others, but also activate suppressed superpowers in mutants, and even repair brain function and alter certain aspects of his own molecular composition, or even resurrect himself.
However, in reality, the superpowers of the elixir go beyond just healing.
The power of the Elixir has always had two aspects: life and death. Once it resurrects a person or group, the Elixir will go out of control, its skin will turn black and it will kill a large number of lives to balance its superpowers.
Logan knew how terrifying this guy was. Even at his peak, he was unwilling to fight him. Now that his regenerative abilities had been significantly reduced, it was naturally even more difficult for him to defeat Lingdan.
Fortunately, Lingdan didn't notice Logan—the latter was a veteran who had outwitted and outmaneuvered Hydra forces in the wasteland. If it weren't for Rune, Hydra would never have been able to find Logan's hiding place, let alone the healers who were mainly responsible for logistics.
Lingdan raised her hand and pressed the button in front of her. Immediately, a large amount of blood gushed out from the syringes in the large-scale cultivation chamber. Then, a certain energy liquid with a purple glow was also injected and fully fused with the blood.
"Proteus, it's your turn," one of the elixirs said.
As soon as those words were spoken, the blood that had been trembling violently inside the cabin seemed to gain its own consciousness and began to construct various organs on its own: heart, blood vessels, brain—a person was taking shape.
A transparent man, shimmering with purple light, suddenly appeared. He looked exhausted, but still wore a smile.
"Thanks to my reality-distorting power and the cutting-edge life science technology in your mind, we were able to perfectly fuse the bloodlines of different mutants to successfully create humans, while eliminating their superfluous emotions and self-awareness. But then again, wouldn't these guys—be considered my children?"
Lingdan's expression wasn't very pleasant, not because he couldn't take a joke, but because—
"I remain extremely unwilling to obey your orders and those of your people, Proteus!" Lingdan coldly stared at the man with the ability to warp reality. "I'm doing this for Krakor, not for the benefits your master promised!"
Proteus can distort reality within a certain area around him with his mind, but his reality-distorting ability is limited to his field of vision. If he shifts his gaze to another object, the previous reality distortion will return to normal.
Without Hope's enhancement, Proteus would not have been able to accomplish the feat of creating new life together with the Elixir.
"Oh, come on!" Proteus raised his hand and tapped the holographic screen. The screen instantly switched to a live view of the mine, showing figures in gray uniforms working in the deserted mining area. With another tap, the screen showed a large number of people in gray uniforms tending to the Craco Flower.
A smile spread across Proteus's purple face. "Look," he said, "these second-generation mutants feel no fear, no pain; they are the perfect tools. Dangerous mines, the cleanup of highly polluted areas, even the future war with humanity—these should all be their responsibility!"
"And you know what's best about it? It's that our combined superpowers can mass-produce them without ever having to worry about depletion!"
Proteus laughed heartily, then sneered, "The Elixir—only naturally bred mutants possess complete souls and are worthy of Krakor's future. Those we create are nothing but tools!"
