I'm a Master in India

Chapter 134 Sin City

Ron was a little stunned looking at the two people who suddenly appeared outside the door.

His first reaction was that Kavya had brought Aijie, who was a police officer, to catch him in the act, followed by a dramatic showdown.

These imaginary scenes were crushed within two seconds of playing out.

Ron got up as usual, with a smile on his face, and introduced them to everyone.

"Sorry," Kavya greeted the crowd, then motioned to Ron with her eyes, "Let's go outside and chat for a bit."

Laughter hadn't stopped in the room; everyone was just talking about a celebrity scandal. Ron excused himself, nodded to Mary, and then left the room.

"Hey, was that Officer Lar just now?" Chandra had a good memory; he'd read the newspapers.

"It was him, yes!" Joseph's eyes widened. "He's the one who arrested Sanjay Dutt!"

"Wow! The Mumbai newspapers all say he's a savior hero, just like Dr. Sur!" Rita shrieked. "Only he can solve the bombing case!"

"Officer Lar seems to know Dr. Sur!" Geeta was equally excited. Officer Aijie was tough and dignified, while Dr. Sur was so handsome it made people dizzy.

This combination appearing at the same time made Geeta and Rita, who had just entered the entertainment industry, utterly captivated.

"Aijie is Ron's good friend," Mary suddenly interjected. "They've visited each other's homes more than once."

Her eyes clearly told everyone: If you run into trouble, Ron is the person you should ask for help.

Chandra and Joseph exchanged glances, similar thoughts arising in their minds.

Bollywood was within Aijie's jurisdiction, and he was known for his impartiality.

No one in the industry could previously establish a connection with him, but now there was someone.

Chandra was even secretly regretting that the contract he had just signed should have been changed again.

In the atrium outside the hotel, Ron, Kavya, and Aijie were sitting under a sunshade, a cup of coffee in front of each of them.

"Is there something urgent?" Ron looked at Kavya, then at Aijie.

He was very curious that these two knew each other, especially since their expressions weren't very good, which puzzled Ron.

"I visited Aijie when I was writing a feature on crime records," Kavya explained first. "He was looking for you. You weren't at Sur Electronics or Bandra, so he came to South Mumbai."

Aijie remembered Ron saying his apartment was in the Fort area, not far from the train station. But he didn't know the exact address, and he happened to meet Kavya.

"You called me yesterday and asked me to book a private room here, yaar. Mary and Leena are here too." Kavya's eyes were unreadable, her tone carrying a hint of question.

"You know, business matters. Mary and the others are starting a company." Ron wasn't at all flustered; they were indeed discussing legitimate business.

"Cough." Aijie picked up his coffee, quietly breaking the increasingly strange atmosphere. "Do you know Had Khan?"

"Of course." Ron put away his expression and nodded slightly.

"When I say know, I don't mean Had Khan's reputation in Mumbai, you know what I mean, right?" Aijie emphasized.

"Yes, I used to exchange US dollars at his place," Ron answered truthfully.

There was nothing to hide. Few police officers in Mumbai had clean hands; what the hell was he afraid of?

"Besides that?" Aijie pressed on.

"What are you referring to?" Ron finally became serious.

"Medicine." Aijie softly uttered a word.

Kavya's body trembled almost imperceptibly, and she looked at Ron with some worry.

"The medicine business had nothing to do with Had Khan before; he just got involved recently. What's wrong? Is the City Police going to bypass the Coast Guard to crack down on smuggling?"

"I'm not talking to you as a police officer, but as a friend." Aijie gave him an annoyed look. "Do you know there's a problem with Had Khan's medicine?"

"What!" Ron was startled.

"Take a look at this." Aijie pulled out a document from his bag and handed it to him.

It was an investigation report on a pharmaceutical factory, and the conclusion was simple. No production license, no drug registration certificate, no GMP certification. Environment, safety, equipment, none of it met standards.

There was no doubt; this was the manufacturer of the batch of medicine Ron and Luca smuggled to Brazil. Line after line of red crosses was shocking to see.

Ron slammed the document onto the table. He got up and paced back and forth in the atrium.

Medicine wasn't snacks; the 'clean and hygienic' excuse didn't work.

If even a little impurity was mixed in, people could really die.

Because the people taking the medicine were patients; their bodies were already weak. Some strange things getting mixed in could very likely cause complications.

What were the impurities in a pharmaceutical factory? It could be dirt, or it could be other chemical components.

The latter was even more dangerous than the former.

Ron was an outlaw, yes, but he didn't want to disregard human life.

This wasn't right!

Treating others' lives as sacrifices for profit, this wasn't right!

He could accept terminally ill patients being used as 'drug mules,' but he couldn't accept a small heart medicine pill being adulterated.

"Fortunately, the medicine from this factory doesn't have major problems, just insufficient efficacy." Aijie suddenly pulled out another document.

Ron stopped pacing, his angry expression somewhat frozen. He quickly walked over, picked up the document, and flipped through it, then let out a big sigh of relief.

Insufficient efficacy was still unethical, but at least it wouldn't kill people.

"Why didn't you tell me everything at once?" Ron gave him a reproachful look.

Aijie smiled and didn't say anything. He just wanted to confirm again whether Dr. Sur was a good person; this would influence his subsequent decision.

"Is Had Khan connected to this pharmaceutical factory?" Ron suddenly understood a few things now.

"There's an agreement between them," Aijie nodded. "Had Khan wants people to help him test the medicine."

"Test the medicine?" Ron was a little sensitive to that term now.

"That's right. He wants to make sure the medicine is okay before sending it to where it's needed. We haven't found out exactly where, and we don't have evidence to continue investigating."

No wonder some manufacturers were replaced each time the medicine was shipped to Brazil. Had Khan was doing this gradually, only slowly expanding the range of types after confirming the previous batch was okay.

He was very careful, even Ron just complained a couple of times and didn't take it to heart.

Ultimately, Ron was just a middleman; he didn't have that much energy or time to investigate every single pharmaceutical factory.

"How are you planning to handle this matter?" Ron asked.

"That pharmaceutical factory has been sealed." Aijie got up.

"And then?"

"What then?" He asked strangely.

"Is this matter just ending like this?" Ron was a little surprised.

"I'm only responsible for the bombing case. Medicine isn't under my jurisdiction, and Customs has nothing to do with me." Aijie patted his shoulder, then strode away.

Ron looked at his retreating back and suddenly smiled.

They were all ultimately captives of the vast net of human relationships; no one could stand outside it.

"Ron." Kavya walked up, her eyes worried.

"It's okay," Ron put his arm around her waist and comforted her softly. "Aijie is a friend."

"I still think Sur Electronics has more potential; it's your hard work, isn't it?"

"Of course, without a doubt. I'm just helping Luca. Brazil is as poor as India there. Unfortunately, they don't have as many pharmaceutical factories as India."

"You still need to be careful. I don't want anything to happen to you." Kavya grabbed his arm and held on.

"Okay, I promise you. But the business inside isn't finished yet. Do you want to come in and sit?"

"No, I still have to write news articles. I'll be writing very late, probably working overtime. It will be dark, there will be no taxis, and I'll be all alone on the street..."

"Alright, I'll pick you up tonight." Ron had a bit of a headache.

"Then it's settled!" She smiled triumphantly.

"Shit! I knew that guy Pant was playing tricks!"

"He planned it long ago; we were all fooled!"

"This is murder! I'm going to teach them a good lesson!"

Luca waved his pistol, pacing back and forth in the room like an angry bull.

"Ron, you have to say something." He came over angrily.

"What?"

"We can't just let this matter go. They have to compensate us. In the future, the price of goods from that factory must be cut in half again!"

Ron paused, then blinked, as if he didn't know how to speak.

"What, they'll refuse?" Luca's voice unconsciously became sharp. "That's a matter of life and death! Sixty percent off is the bottom line, no less."

Ron was numb. Was he the only 'white lotus' here?

No one cared about the lives of the Brazilians who bought the medicine, including Luca.

"The batch of goods shipped last time, it's already arrived in Brazil, right?" Ron's expression was subtle.

"It arrived," Luca's voice unconsciously carried a smile. "My brother called me this morning; we made four times the profit this time!"

Oh, this morning, Ron nodded. He had told Luca about the factory last night.

"Forget about that factory, it's already been sealed," Ron suddenly lost interest.

"Ah, how can that be? What about our business?" Luca became anxious.

"What do you want to do?" Ron retorted.

"Of course, find new avenues, man! That's a business worth millions of dollars!"

"Then keep working with Pant," Ron spread his hands.

"What?" Luca was confused. "Didn't the factory get sealed?"

"Other factories are still there. Did you forget the very first batch of goods we got? They were all from well-known Indian pharmaceutical factories.

Pant is a drug distributor; he can get any kind of goods. It just depends on whether he's willing or what kind of orders he receives."

Luca's eyes lit up. That's right! The first batch of goods he brought back even had English instructions.

Since it was all business, there was no reason for Pant not to do it.

"But we can't let him off so easily; we still have to bargain!" Luca's eyes darted around.

As for Ron, he had already given up; let whoever wanted to deal with it.

Mumbai was a city of sin, where schemes of acquiring wealth and harming lives were enacted every day.

No one cared. The government didn't care, the police didn't care, and even the victims themselves didn't care.

So what did Ron care about?

"Oh, right, Ron, my brother also told me about a few other medicines. Something like anti-cancer drugs. Someone is offering a lot of money for them. See where you can get them."

Luca eagerly pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Ron with anticipation.

The price was frighteningly high, even higher than gold.
