Chapter 34 Undercurrents (Please continue reading)

After a ten-day trek through the North, the Dawnguard finally arrived at the outskirts of Ugarama. Looking at the winding, rugged mountains in the distance, Aurelion pulled his white-scaled horse to a stop.

"Stop, let's stop here for today and set up camp."

As Aurelion gave the order, the accompanying Dawnguard quickly dismounted and methodically began arranging the camp. Aurelion, on the other hand, nudged his white-scaled horse and leisurely continued on his way.

Looking at the messy marks on the ground, he asked the attendant who had followed him.
"Are the Whiterun sentries still following behind?"

"Yes, sir. We need to get rid of him."

Aurelion jumped off his horse and sat down on a nearby rock.

"No need, he's worked really hard. We'll send him some over after dinner is ready."

"Yes, my lord"

Aurelion waved his hand, and his entourage withdrew.

On the other side, Whiterun

"Kevin! Kevin!"

Seeing Earl Hyland lost in thought during the meeting, Earl Morley waved his hand in front of the latter.

Count Hylan, regaining his senses, turned and looked over.

"What's wrong, Hardaway?"

Count Morley sighed and touched his forehead as he watched his friend, who had been frequently lost in thought ever since Havent left.

"Kevin, are you thinking about little Went again? Don't worry, he'll be fine, he's so smart."

Listening to Count Mori's comforting words, Count Hailan nodded, then turned to look at the map hanging on the wall.

"The messenger should be almost at the capital by now. Hadaway, I hope your judgment is correct."

At this moment, the several noble lords in the conference room had all left after receiving their tasks, leaving only the two earls who currently held the highest positions in the Northern Territory.

Count Mori, looking utterly exhausted, sipped his mead. His already thinning hair appeared even more bald under the glow of the magic lamp.

"Levin sent us a message requesting that we send troops to support them. There is an unknown force harassing them outside the town. More than half of his 800 Golden Bear cavalry have been lost. If reinforcements do not arrive soon, he will have no choice but to abandon the equipment and escape."

In addition, according to reports from the sentries, the Dawnguard have reached the outskirts of Ugarama and are still slowly advancing.

Lord Charlton has sent word that scouts have spotted a large number of orcish werewolf roaming cavalry 100 kilometers from the Amar Line. The Third Heavy Swordsmen of the Mountains are currently unable to deploy, and only the Second White Lion Legion can assist us in clearing the problems within our territory for the time being.

Earl Hyland listened to his old friend's words in silence, but the deformed silver goblet revealed that this powerful earl was not at peace.
"The White Lion Second Legion should head directly to Fallen Leaf Town to support Earl Levin. We cannot afford to lose this batch of equipment."

At this point, Earl Hylan paused noticeably, and after a long pause, continued:

"After our teams conducted reconnaissance and clearing operations, we found that there are currently more than 30,000 ghouls in seven territories. With the integration of our existing teams, it will take about two months to clear them out, if we put in a little effort."

"And I think we in the North need to break some rules. I plan to have Solis contact the 'White Gold Tower.' We accept the Mage's Guild's entry." Earl Morrie, somewhat surprised by his old friend's words, put down his wine glass and asked疑惑地问道.
"Are you sure, Kevin? While the Solis people are nice, that group of mages isn't exactly good people. They're always up to some weird stuff, making life miserable in our territory."

Count Hyland seemed to remember something, and smiled.

"Actually, it's not so bad. As Havent put it, the mages just made a few mistakes while exploring the world. Besides digging up corpses and sewing together different kinds of magical beast corpses, they frequently blew up houses, which was a bit expensive..."

"Well, in general, we need an injection of fresh blood to enable us to resist the encroachment of external forces, and mage groups are a good choice. As long as we can cooperate effectively, it will greatly help to turn the tide in the North."

Earl Morrie smiled as he looked at his old friend, who was talking animatedly.
"Kevin, it seems the Hyland family has really produced a very good heir. Little Went's understanding of the situation and his political acumen are really sharp. Speaking of which, don't you really want to let your son get to know my daughter?"

This time, Earl Hyland did not evade his old friend's question.

“Actually, you know it’s unlikely, Haddaw. What His Majesty needs is a united North that obeys him, not a unified North. In that case, His Majesty’s concern isn’t the Church, but us.”

After listening to his old friend's words, Earl Morley sighed deeply. Clearly, Earl Hylan was right.

Dawnguard Camp
Aurelion was kneeling on the cushion, meditating after finishing his meal, when a voice requesting an audience came from outside the door.
"My lord, there is a message from Saint Herrid that requires your review."

Aurelion slowly opened his eyes, a glint of light flashing in his amber pupils.

"come in"

When Van der Sar, dressed in a suit of mithril armor, lifted the curtain and went inside, Aurelion had already returned to his seat.

"My lord, this was delivered from Saint Herrid by the Eagle Knights of the Light Sentinels. The person is still waiting outside."

As he listened to Van der Sar's words, Aurelion raised his long, thin eyebrows.
Give me the letter.

Van der Sar respectfully handed over the letter with both hands, then stepped back a few paces and stood ramrod straight, awaiting instructions.

Aurelion took the letter. The cover featured a sun face that filled the entire envelope. As holy light emanated from Aurelion's hand, the sun face on the cover seemed to melt away and vanished.
[Opened by Aurelion]

May the eternal sun shine upon you forever, and may Amanata guide your path forward.
Regarding the introduction of [something] from the North, Kanra has already provided a detailed report...

Van der Sar, noticing his leader's sour expression after reading the letter, cautiously asked...
"Sir? What's wrong?"

A white flame erupted from Aurelion's hand, instantly turning the letter to ashes.

"Pass down the order: tomorrow, the Dawnguard will advance at full speed and intercept the Church of Death in the Ugarama Mountains."

"Yes, sir. Have we decided to eradicate this heretical group? Should I arrange for a sacred ceremony to be performed beforehand?"

Aurelion, having destroyed the letters, rested his chin on his hands and leaned on the table, deep in thought. After a moment, he slowly spoke.
"No need. Just prepare for a blockade. The objective is to drive the Church of Death back into the Northern Territory."

After saying that, he pulled out a scroll under Van der Sar's shocked gaze, quickly wrote a few words, then bit his index finger and pressed it onto the scroll.

"Let the Flying Eagle Paladin take it back."
