Chapter 214 The Death of Father and Son
Chapter 214 The Death of Father and Son
Never before had Brian faced so many choices, and such important ones at that.
This relates to how I will choose to continue living in the future.
Will he walk out the door as an FBI agent, or as a member of the Mafia, standing beside Old Pigeon?
These are two different paths, but from now on, the undercover identity will cease to exist; the past is just the prologue, and a new page will be turned.
Montgomery also sensed something unusual. He knew that Brian had developed feelings for the Mafia, and that Mad was delaying in passing on intelligence. Was he about to completely betray them?
If I can't control Luca, can't I at least control this guy?
“Brian!” Montgomery warned, openly revealing his identity. “Calm down! Don’t forget your role and responsibilities! You’re an undercover agent, not a real member of the Mafia! Your presence next to Luca is all part of a setup. You’re acting in the Mafia, don’t get too fucking into it!”
Montgomery's intentions are despicable; he deliberately uttered such provocative words in an attempt to provoke Luca and sow discord between the two.
Given Luca's suspicious nature, would he still keep Brian after knowing the whole truth?
Brian was filled with fear. Before, it was all just an undercurrent, but now everything was laid bare.
He glanced cautiously at Luca, only to find that the other's expression remained unchanged, still fixed on him with those dark, unwavering eyes. To many, that gaze would be like a cold knife to their throat, but Brian sensed no hostility.
Brian had seen Luca's many faces while working alongside him. Sometimes, even when facing enemies, the old pigeon would smile and wave with a knife in hand, but he rarely saw Luca with such a solemn expression.
He suddenly realized that even a strong man like Lao Ge could have moments of inner turmoil, but Lao Ge wanted to maintain his dignity without letting others see it. The expression Lao Ge would wear when facing him in the future depended entirely on his choice at this moment.
"Brian, get out," Montgomery urged again. "Did you hear me? Get out now!"
Brian ignored him, simply looking at Luca and confessing, "Sorry, old man, I'm an undercover agent sent by the FBI. I need to be clear with you about this first; I lied to you before."
"That's because I let you lie to me on my own initiative." Luca cursed the fool under his breath and said, "Brian, you should know that I rarely give others the right to choose. Now that you have it from me, it means that you are still qualified to stand by my side. But you only have this one chance. You should understand how rare this is."
Brian nodded. Now that things had come to this point, what was there left for him to hesitate about?
He watched his colleagues and doctors leave the room one after another, and then followed them toward the front door.
Seeing this, Montgomery smiled and gave Luca a smug look. "Pigeon, even you can be wrong sometimes, huh? A big boss of the New York Mafia can be deceived by a little undercover agent. If the Lucchese family finds out about this, what will they think of you?"
Luca's expression remained unchanged. He didn't even glance at Brian and said calmly, "When I first joined the Mafia, my boss told me not to easily trust strangers outside the family, because you don't know if they are undercover agents sent by the Federation."
I've always kept this in mind, which is why I rarely trust others. But it's undeniable that humans are emotional beings, and no one can judge everything with absolute rationality.
Montgomery quipped, "So this is the mistake you made by acting on your emotions?"
"mistake?"
"That's how your criminal group is; there are only three things that can keep you united."
Montgomery shook his head. "Violence, self-interest, and emotion. Violence creates rules, self-interest drives goals, and emotion... it's the most unreliable thing, even less reliable than religious faith."
He glanced back at the father and son on the hospital bed. "Look at them. The bond between a biological father and son is so deep, yet they end up fighting each other. Blood ties have become a burden at this point. No one in the world has a more suitable heart than your own son. Never play the emotional card unless you want the game to turn into Russian roulette."
Luca couldn't deny that the Spallanzan father and son were indeed rare oddities. Such beasts were seldom seen even in the Mafia. So, no matter what choice the father and son made, even if they knelt down and became dogs for the FBI, Luca wouldn't be surprised.
“But you’re wrong about one thing.” Luca shook his head.
"what?"
As soon as Montgomery finished speaking, Brian walked to the door, closed it, and then stood next to Luca.
His expression instantly turned to one of utter astonishment.
How can it be?
Luca handed Brian a gun, looking at Montgomery. "Do you know what the only legal and incredibly addictive drug is?"
It's the most unreliable thing.
Montgomery stared at Brian in disbelief and yelled at him, "Brian, are you crazy? Do you know what you're doing?"
Brian pulled back the bolt. "Are you blind? Can't you see what I'm doing?"
"You're an FBI agent!"
"Get lost. When you try to make me take the blame, I'm no longer one."
Brian shook his head. "I respect this profession, but you no longer treat me like a human being. Those colleagues who died in the hotel could have survived, but they lost their lives because of your plan. Do you think you can just brush it all off with an 'I'm sorry'?"
Delete my file, just like you did with Spallanzan back then. From this day forward, there will be no more FBI agent named Brian O'Connor.
Montgomery's face turned ashen.
He turned to look at Luca, a look of realization dawning on his eyes. "Pigeon, you two were in cahoots all along?"
He decided to turn the tables and deliberately infiltrate the FBI to gather intelligence on the case.
Then all the truths he had just told Brian would become the sharp blades Luca would use to stab him.
"Think what you want," Luca said calmly. "Your attitude is irrelevant."
After saying that, Luca opened the glass door of the isolation room, preparing to disconnect the oxygen tubes from the father and son. "Buddy and Spallanzan are doomed. No one can save them today."
Just then, Brian suddenly came over and said, "Old Pigeon, let me do it."
After saying that, Brian preemptively ripped off the power cord. Without the equipment to sustain life, the two people on the bed, who were already on the verge of death, began to convulse and their vitality continued to weaken.
Seeing this, Montgomery was stunned. His credit was gone; not only was Spallanzan gone, but even Buddy, his informant, was finished. The FBI's plan had completely failed.
A moment later, only two lifeless corpses remained on the bed.
You and Brian killed the Spallanzan father and son, preventing them from leaking information to the FBI. You defended the peace of the Mafia.

[Theoretical lifespan + 3 months]
Looking at the entry on lifespan, Luca glanced again at the dead Spallanzan on the bed. The old man wanted to live, but unfortunately his lifespan had come to an end.
Brian watched the two men die and realized that he wasn't as resistant as he had imagined, even though it was his first time killing someone.
"Well done." Luca smiled with satisfaction.
Brian is quite brave; he's capable of fighting alongside his biker gang on the international stage. How could he be the kind of person who's indecisive? It's good that he broke the rules.
"Is it over now?" Brian asked the old pigeon.
"Not yet. Someone has to be held responsible for their deaths, as well as the deaths of your former colleagues. Someone has to step forward. I said I would stand up for you, and I mean it."
Luca turned to look at Montgomery, whose face was grim in the room. "Mr. Montgomery, you will take responsibility for these things, won't you?"
The man is already dead! Montgomery was furious. "Luca! Brian! You two murderers, I will not let this go today. You can expect to be prosecuted by the federal government!"
Why is the federal government suing me?
Luca retorted, "You're the one who captured Buddy, you're the one who tried to save Spallanzan, and you're the one who killed so many agents, Mr. Montgomery. Haven't you figured out the situation yet? Spallanzan—no, I mean FBI Agent Heller—his death will be blamed on you."
The name Heller was like a taboo; when Luca uttered it, Montgomery and Brian's expressions changed simultaneously.
How did Old Pigeon find out about this?
Brian thought to himself that he hadn't passed on the intelligence yet.
Montgomery was also stunned, as he had only recently learned of the situation and then had to consult with Washington before changing his plans midway through.
How could Luca, a member of the Mafia, know about such long-buried secrets? Even the Los Angeles family didn't know!
"You knew all along that Spallanzan was Heller?" Montgomery looked like he'd seen a ghost. How old was Luca anyway? Spallanzan was even older than Luca's grandfather.
I'm laying my cards on the table, I've cheated! Luca said calmly, "How I know this isn't important. The problem is, your FBI has personally cultivated a criminal tycoon. How many people has Spallanzan killed over the decades? The FBI can't escape responsibility for the hundreds of cases he's committed!"
Just because Spallanzan was an undercover agent, his proposed face-swapping plan was approved by your FBI headquarters' top brass!
If this gets out, how many people do you think will be purged within your FBI?
Luca said coldly, "You want to revive Spallanzan to accuse the Mafia?! Sorry, now I'm using Heller, this undercover agent, to accuse your FBI! But luckily, your FBI leadership doesn't want this to be exposed, and I'm sure you know that yourself."
So I made a small deal with your deputy director at headquarters.”
With each word Luca spoke, Montgomery's eyes grew more uneasy; the other man knew far too much!
Damn it, how did Luca know?
Were there eavesdroppers in the wall just now?
A moment later, the door opened, and when Montgomery saw the deputy director of headquarters standing at the door, his face turned even paler.

Behind Rock stood two top assassins, Arthur and Leon.
As the lead investigator and deputy director of headquarters, Rock naturally came to Vegas as well, since he was the one who orchestrated everything in the original storyline.
Before entering the ward, Luca had already arranged for mechanics to take control of the entire hospital's FBI operations and had also visited the deputy director.
Luca turned to Montgomery. "Now you know why I was able to walk here so openly?"
Montgomery turned pale; he suddenly had a bad feeling.
“Chief Rock.” Luca approached Rock. “The rest is up to you. Mr. Montgomery knows too much he shouldn’t know. I believe you know how to deal with him. Brian, give your gun to the Chief.”
Rock took the gun, took a deep breath, and looked at the father and son who had died on the hospital bed, knowing that it was all over now.
The current focus should be on minimizing the impact of this event.
