Chapter 213 I'll Stand Up for You

half an hour ago.

Outside the hospital.

Lyon stood quietly by the roadside waiting. A moment later, a black car pulled up and stopped. The door opened, revealing Luca's serious face. He was holding a cell phone and communicating with someone else.

"What's the attitude of headquarters in Washington right now?"

Denham's puzzled voice came through the phone, "I don't understand either. Some intelligence has been blocked. All I know is that Washington suddenly broke the witness protection agreement with Buddy. Montgomery is the one involved in this in New York, and that guy refuses to tell me anything."

Montgomery Luca looked slightly puzzled. This guy was the head of a department at the FBI in New York, currently at roughly the same level as Denham, but he had been the head for a long time, while Denham had only recently been promoted.

What is his relationship with Brian? Is he Brian's direct superior?

According to information obtained by Leon through covert observation, Brian and this person had previously had an argument in the hotel.

Denham: "Too many FBI agents were involved in the Spallanzan operation. It was led by a deputy director at the FBI headquarters in Washington, with FBI offices in more than a dozen states across the country contributing to the operation. They all wanted to get intelligence from Buddy to crack down on local Mafia forces. Montgomery was one of the participants in New York."

He was still unaware of Spallanzan's true identity. These old grievances were now known to almost no one within the FBI. He asked in bewilderment, "Old Pigeon, are you deeply involved with the Los Angeles family? I can't get involved in this. You either need to eliminate Buddy to prevent future troubles, or you need to sever ties with the Los Angeles family as soon as possible."

Now you can hear Denham say things like "kill someone," which would have been impossible before, even if the person being killed was a ruthless member of the mafia.

Luca was pleased with this. While maintaining certain principles, Denham had changed his mindset and was no longer the same person he used to be. Such a person was more suited to working in the FBI.

Little blondie won't do.

"Can you get detailed information about Spallanzan?" Luca asked.

"He's a member of the Mafia, you should know him better than I do."

“Emmm,” Luca realized he had asked the wrong question. He meant to ask about the undercover agent, so he changed his mind and said, “Then can you help me look into an FBI agent named Freeman Heller who was murdered by Spallanzan decades ago when he was undercover in the Los Angeles Mafia.”

Denham agreed and immediately went to look up the information.

Luca hung up the phone and got out of the car.

Where is Brian?

"He was admitted to the hospital."

Upon hearing this, Luca's expression became somewhat complicated.

What could have been resolved with an assassination has escalated to this point, dragging the young blond guy into it as well.

In the FBI's eyes, the center of the storm was Spallanzan and his son; but in Luca's eyes, there was only Brian.

The only possible outcome for that father and son was death; there was no other option. But how to deal with Brian was not a problem that Luca could solve on his own. It depended on Brian's final choice. Just as a bond requires two people to develop, one person cannot form a bond alone.

What's the situation at the hospital right now?

"The area where Spallanzan is located has been taken over by the FBI. Now, almost every place inside is guarded by agents. They have assembled at least fifty field agents this time, with police assisting in the surrounding area."

"That's quite a big spender. Are they not even going to put on an act anymore?"

Luca's gaze swept across the entire private hospital building, assessing the current situation.

The FBI deployed so many personnel simply to ensure the father and son's transplant surgery could proceed smoothly and to prevent them from being harassed by other killers.

And what about Spallanzan's attitude?
unimportant.

Whether Luca wanted to "convert" to the FBI or simply use the FBI to complete his surgery and continue being a mafia boss afterward was irrelevant; killing him was more important.

There's nothing to say to a dead person.

“What about the mafia?” Luca asked again.

Spallanzan had arranged for a lot of people to protect him, but now that the FBI has taken over, can those unsuspecting Mafia soldiers just stand by and watch their boss be manipulated by the FBI?

“They’ve already been driven away by the FBI,” Lyon explained. “They don’t dare to confront the FBI directly.”

"Don't dare? Then I'll give them that confidence. Call them over and come with me. We're going to visit Spallanzan."

Luca called out to Leon and strode towards the hospital entrance, while simultaneously calling Arthur and his group of mechanics to inquire about the situation.

Arthur: "It's all arranged."

Luca: "Take direct action and take control of the entire hospital."

The ward was deathly silent.

Everyone—the doctors preparing for surgery, the FBI agents, and Brian—was staring at Luca, who was blocking the entrance. Although he was alone, his black figure transformed into a thick wall within the white ward, blocking everyone's path.

Luca's hands were still gripping Montgomery's shoulders, making it look like he was taking a hostage. Immediately, several agents at the scene drew their pistols and pointed them at Luca, gripping them tightly in their tension, as if they were their only lifeline.

Looking at Luca's expressionless face, Brian's mind was in complete turmoil. In the past, he would always rush up to greet Luca as "Old Pigeon" when they met, but now he didn't know how to start the conversation.

"Is this how the FBI treats its guests? Pulling out a gun the moment you meet them?" Luca's voice came from behind. Montgomery didn't dare move, afraid the person behind him would kill him. Feeling the force on his shoulder, he waved his hand, signaling his agents to stop, while warning Luca:
“Luca, I’m warning you, don’t do anything reckless. The hospital is full of FBI agents.”

"You don't seem to understand the situation. The fact that I got here proves that the FBI is just for show. I've said it before, I'm in charge of this hospital now. Nobody is allowed to leave without my permission!"

As soon as he finished speaking, several fully armed mechanics, some even wearing bulletproof masks, appeared behind Luca, along with a group of mafia members in suits.

A leader of the Delana family stepped forward and reported to Luca: "Pigeon, we have the hospital under control now."

Montgomeryton felt a chill run down his spine. How dare Luca? Attacking FBI agents in broad daylight?
"Pigeon! Did you kill my men? You're finished! You dared to attack law enforcement officers and hijack an entire hospital! This is terrorism! The Federation will not let you get away with this!"

"What qualifications do you have to represent the Federation?"

Luca sneered and pushed Montgomery away, staring at the badge hanging on his chest. "Just because of what you're wearing? Because you're the head of the New York FBI? Or because you can openly rip someone's heart out? How about we make a bet? I'll kill you, and you guess if the federal government will put me on the wanted list?"

Montgomery's legs were trembling. It was the first time he had been so close to Luca and had to face all of Luca's hostility. Only then did he realize just how domineering this young man was.

Luca walked to the glass door next door, stared at the father and son inside, and his mocking voice echoed throughout the room:
"Didn't you sign a witness protection agreement with Buddy to protect him? Is this the protection the FBI is giving him? Or are you only willing to protect his heart?"

I never imagined the FBI had an organ trafficking business. How much did Spallanzan pay you? I can promote the FBI so that people all over America who need organs can come to you. If you want someone, just arrest them.

Moreover, during surgery, there are top surgeons in the United States, FBI agents providing full security, and a one-stop service to ensure that every client enjoys God-like treatment.

As for the personal freedom rights of those victims? Who the hell cares about them? Just come up with any plausible cause of death.

These people are honored to have given their hearts to their country! Even in death, their hearts continue to beat for this nation, supplying it with blood!

Luca turned to an agent and asked, "Excuse me, what's your blood type?"

The detective forced a pale, awkward, and bitter expression, then guiltily looked away.

Luca then looked at the next agent: "And you?"

After asking several people in a row, not a single one answered. Faced with Luca's sarcastic remarks, many agents couldn't help but feel ashamed, especially the newcomers who had just joined the force. When faced with these bizarre actions by the FBI, it was clear that these things violated the meaning of the three words F, B, and I.

Luca finally looked at Montgomery and asked, "Mr. Montgomery, what is your blood type?"

"Luca! Please stop distorting the truth here!"

Montgomery gritted his teeth, but his heart trembled.

This kind of thing—picking out people's hearts to save the Mafia—is best done secretly; exposing it would have too much of a negative impact.

Having been directly pointed out by Luca, Montgomery had already anticipated that things would likely become difficult to proceed.

Fortunately, Luca only knew about the heart transplant. This wasn't a secret; many high-ranking members of the Mafia knew that Spallanzan specifically requested Buddy's heart, but they were unaware of Spallanzan's true identity.

The only problem now is that the FBI, as a federal law enforcement agency, actively got involved in and promoted the "heart transplant" matter. This shady business will never be acknowledged by headquarters, and Spallanzan is also involved in a scandal from decades ago.

Thinking of this, Montgomery's heart skipped a beat.

Did Pigeon dare to make such a big show of attacking the FBI because he already anticipated that the FBI wouldn't dare to make a fuss? Just like those agents who died in the hotel.

They died meaningless deaths, like trash to be discarded at will.

And no one will hold them accountable.

“Luca, what exactly do you want? We can talk.” Montgomery sensed a strong unease.

Luca glanced at the door, too lazy to pretend anymore, and said bluntly, "Get your people out of here first, along with these doctors."

These junior agents were unaware that Spallanzan was an undercover agent, and there were certain things they couldn't know.

Montgomery looked at the group of Mafia members outside, feeling helpless, and ordered his men to leave.

"Brian."

Luca's voice suddenly called out his name, and Brian, who was about to leave, jumped in surprise. "Old Pigeon, it's me!"

"You stay."

Luca's tone left no room for refusal: "Come to me."

Brian was taken aback. "Old Pigeon, my identity is so obvious now."
Montgomery looked at Luca and Brian with suspicion. Could it be that Brian had told Luca the news? That shouldn't be the case. Brian was completely unaware of the situation before, and he had just been forced to reveal the truth by Brian at gunpoint.

Seeing Brian's somewhat stiff movements, Luca's gaze deepened, but his voice softened a bit, "Do you want to leave through this door, or come to my side? I'll give you the choice."

Once you step out of this door, we will have no further connection.

"Stand by my side. Whatever happens today, I'll stand up for you."

In an instant, Brian stared at his brother in disbelief, his vision blurring and his eyes reddening.

He's an FBI agent, after all. Old Pigeon should know very well by now whether he'd still want him by his side.
